Charging documents WJZ obtained say she slammed the child's head into the window of the plane. Page 1 of Seminole County Circuit Court charging documents detailing the incident. Seminole County Circuit Court The Incident 46-year-old Kristy Crampton from Hagerstown appeared in court earlier this week, facing child abuse charges after that disturbing incident on an Allegiant flight from Orlando to Hagerstown on Memorial Day. Charging documents state she "began hitting the [juvenile] with her fist and then a water bottle…and 'slammed' his head into the airplane window." Police did not detail Crampton's relationship to the child. She told authorities he became disrespectful during their trip to Disney World, and when they got onto the plane, "They got into an argument and [the juvenile] began calling her "fat" and "Miss Piggy." Police wrote, "She decided to take the phone away from him, and he got angry. He pushed her arm off of the armrest twice before she responded by smacking him." One witness told officers the "woman was not correcting the child, she was abusing him, whipping the [expletive] out of the kid." WJZ reached out to Crampton but did not immediately hear back. FAA tracks unruly passengers The behavior does not shock many travelers today. "I feel like we're living in a time where violence is high, and people are under stress. If I were you, humble yourself before you get on this plane" said Noemi, a passenger flying through BWI Marshall Airport. "I can only imagine what she does behind closed doors because if you're doing that in public..." Another passenger, Tony Lawson, told WJZ, "That's a kid! It's like if someone put their hands on your kid. It's not right." The FAA has tracked 637 unruly passenger reports so far this year. They trended downward after hitting a high of 5,973 in 2021. The agency said they saw only 1.6 incidents for every 10,000 flights last week. Also, during Memorial Day weekend, a man having a mental health crisis tried to open the exit door of a Houston-bound plane that diverted to Seattle. Past Maryland incident In 2023, WJZ Investigates covered a man's meltdown on a Southwest flight from Baltimore to Fort Lauderdale over a crying infant. "Really, out of nowhere, he just kind of blurted out, 'Shut that [expletive] baby up,' and everyone was just kind of stunned. Myself and a couple of passengers were kind of stunned and tried to calm him down." 'Take a breath. None of us want to be in a situation. Let's just calm down here.' And he doubled down," Mark Grabowski, who captured the video, told WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren at the time. The FAA said they have "zero tolerance" for unruly behavior incidents. The agency fined passengers $7.5 million in 2023 alone. Jacob is taking his first-ever flight from BWI Marshall to Los Angeles on Friday. He hopes the skies are friendlier for him—and has this advice for fellow passengers: "They should keep themselves in check and just be patient."

Female passenger slams boy's head against window after he called her 'fat Miss Piggy' on flight home from Disney

A female plane passenger has been charged with child abuse after attacking a kid who called her 'Miss Piggy' on a flight home from Disney World, according to police. Kristy Crampton was part of a group returning home to Maryland from the resort in Florida on Monday when she was arrested at Sanford-Orlando International Airport. She had been on board the Allegiant Air flight when she is said to have attacked a child that called her 'fat' and referred to her as 'Miss Piggy', the Muppets character. In an arrest report seen by Crampton is said to have started throwing punches at the child just before takeoff after he allegedly said she was too fat to sit in a seat. Witnesses told officers that she punched the unknown boy and then hit him with a water bottle before slamming his head into an airplane window, the report said. It remains unclear at this time what the relationship between Crampton and the boy are. The family declined to provide statements to officers. One witness told cops that the child 'did nothing wrong' and that 'the woman was not correcting, she was abusing [redacted], whipping the s*** out of the kid.' Officers on the scene say they spoke with a Jeffrey Crampton, who informed them that the unknown boy was 'having behavioral issues' on the flight and at Disney. The pilot of the flight, destined for Hagerstown in Maryland, called police onto the flight for help where she was then taken into custody at the gate. When questioned, officers say Crampton told them the child was 'very rude' and 'disrespectful' during their trip to Disney. After the comment about her weight, Crampton told officers that she took the phone of the child away and started 'smacking' him. That was only after the youth shoved her arm of her armrest, she told officers. According to the police report the argument over the phone had started after the boy had refused to download Uber on his phone. The boy had questioned why they needed it on the plane and couldn't wait until they landed which resulted in the argument. Officers said: 'It was determined that Kristy went beyond typical disciplinary actions with multiple strikes to the head as well as pushing [his] head into the window. 'As a result, Kristy was placed under arrest for domestic violence/child abuse. Kristy was transported to the Seminole County Jail and turned over to corrections deputies.' The pilot of the flight, destined for Hagerstown in Maryland, called police onto the flight for help where she was then taken into custody at the gate WFTV reported that was charged with felony child abuse and appeared in Seminole County court on Tuesday where she was released on a $10,000 bond. The outlet said that she was ordered to not have any contact with the child. Due to the incident happening on an aircraft the FBI have been informed and are expected to file their own report on the case.

Allegiant Air Announces Expansion of Routes

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and that means Americans will be traveling in full force and that the summer travel season has officially begun. According to AAA, 45.1 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home during the Memorial Day holiday period, which runs from May 22 to May 26 in their projections. AAA also projects that this year's U.S. travel forecast will see an increase of 1.4 million travelers compared to last year and even set a new Memorial Day weekend record. That would mark the biggest travel increase since 2005, with 44 million people. "Despite concerns over rising prices, many Americans say they're taking advantage of the long holiday weekend to spend time with loved ones, even if the trips are closer to home," AAA states. Now, a major U.S. airline is announcing five new non-stop routes to eight cities around the country, as well as a special for one-way fares on the new routes for as low as $39. That airline is Allegiant Air. According to the airline's chief commercial officer Drew Wells, "This expansion caters to passengers and communities we feel have been overlooked by other carriers." Even though the announcement was made before Memorial Day, the routes won't launch until later this summer and into the fall. The first route launches between South Bend International Airport in Indiana and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, beginning on Aug. 29. The next route will be in Tennessee, from McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville to Memphis starting on Sept. 4, as well as to Key West, FL, starting on Oct. 3. Finally, the Gulf Shores International Airport in Alabama will see new Allegiant routs to Appleton, WI, and Des Moines, IA, starting on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, respectively. "Allegiant's unique business model, connecting small-to-medium sized cities to vacation destinations, creates accessible travel options not otherwise available in what we believe are underserved markets," Wells said. "We know travelers enjoy the convenience of nonstop flights departing from their neighborhood airport."
