Rutgers gains Detroit RB commitment, puts Spartans pursuit on hold
Rutgers gains Detroit RB commitment, puts Spartans pursuit on hold Michigan State football's pursuit of an in-state prospect has been put on hold. After reports surfaced earlier in the day that the Spartans were gearing up to host Detroit King running back Michael Dukes on an official visit, that visit has been cancelled. The Detroit product, who was previously committed to Toledo, has now made a commitment to Rutgers following his official visit to Piscataway this past weekend. After the official visit to East Lansing was scheduled, the Rutgers staff made a push to gain the running backs commitment and they got their way. With the commitment to the Scarlet Knights, 247Sports reporter Allen Trieu confirmed that Dukes will no longer be making the trip to Michigan State this weekend. Wisconsin football class of 2026 defensive line target commits to a Big Ten rival
Wisconsin football class of 2026 defensive line target commits to a Big Ten rival Indiana lands in-state DL Blake Smythe over several other Big Ten foes: — Allen Trieu (@AllenTrieu) May 2, 2025 Wisconsin football class of 2026 defensive line target Blake Smythe committed to Indiana on Friday. Smythe chose the Hoosiers over other finalists Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Louisville and Michigan State. 247Sports currently lists the Franklin, Indiana, native as a three-star recruit. He is ranked specifically as the No. 90 defensive lineman in the class of 2026 and the No. 9 player from his home state. 247Sports reports that he has official visits scheduled to Wisconsin on June 6 and Indiana on June 20, though that may change with his commitment to the Hoosiers. The three-star defensive lineman joins an Indiana class of 2026 that currently ranks No. 41 nationally with seven players committed. Head coach Curt Cignetti is still working to capitalize on the program's resurgent 11-1 2024 regular season and College Football Playoff appearance. Wisconsin's class of 2026, meanwhile, currently ranks No. 42 nationally with six commitments. Its highest-ranked player is three-star defensive lineman Carmelow Reed, 247Sports' No. 519 overall player in the class. Luke Fickell and his staff still have significant work to do if the program is to claim its third consecutive top-25 finish.
