Rutgers gains Detroit RB commitment, puts Spartans pursuit on hold
Michigan State football's pursuit of an in-state prospect has been put on hold.
After reports surfaced earlier in the day that the Spartans were gearing up to host Detroit King running back Michael Dukes on an official visit, that visit has been cancelled. The Detroit product, who was previously committed to Toledo, has now made a commitment to Rutgers following his official visit to Piscataway this past weekend.
After the official visit to East Lansing was scheduled, the Rutgers staff made a push to gain the running backs commitment and they got their way.
With the commitment to the Scarlet Knights, 247Sports reporter Allen Trieu confirmed that Dukes will no longer be making the trip to Michigan State this weekend.

Michigan State Spartans Extend Offer to 3-Star Cornerback Recruit Amarion Queen To Deepen Defensive Secondary
Michigan State Spartans Extend Offer to 3-Star Cornerback Recruit Amarion Queen To Deepen Defensive Secondary originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The class of 2026 recruiting class for the Michigan State Spartans is heavy on offense with only four of its 12 recruits playing on the defensive side of the ball. Advertisement Looking to shift that trend, the Spartans extended an offer to a cornerback from Stuart, Fla. Michigan State's secondary coach Blue King/Lansing State Journal/USA TODAY NETWORK Amarion Queen, the 3-star cornerback from Martin County High School, posted to X with the news of the Spartans' interest after his conversation with secondary coach Blue Adams. Initially, Queen was committed to USF, but just recently reopened his commitment on June 7. Michigan State is one of the two top teams eyeing the cornerback. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he's the No. 120 cornerback overall and No. 170 out of Florida. While these spots might not be impressive, Michigan State's defensive class of recruits is only slowly piecing together. Head coach Jonathan Smith's recruiting resume is also just starting to grow without suffering any decommitments. Advertisement Outside of cornerback, Queen also plays wide receiver at Martin County. He totaled 413 yards on 18 catches with five touchdowns. On the defensive end, he totaled 22 tackles, five pass break-ups, and three interceptions. Queen would be joining the other 3-star secondaries, K.J. Deriso, Eliyjah Caldwell-Hardy, and Brayden Thomas. Per Michigan State Spartans On SI, a group of four to five secondary defenders is Michigan State's goal with this recruiting class. It will be crucial for Smith and Adams to schedule a visit for Queen in East Lansing. Currently, the Spartans are up against Purdue, the other likely home for the cornerback. Torres, Greene lead Tigers to rainy 11-5 victory over the Reds
Gleyber Torres homered twice and Riley Greene drove in four runs to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Cincinnati Reds 11-5 on a rainy Friday night. Greene had a solo homer in the third and a three-run double in the sixth as the Tigers improved to 19-4 in series openers. TJ Friedl and Elly De La Cruz homered for the Reds. Torres homered on the first pitch from Nick Martinez (4-7). It was Torres' fourth career leadoff homer, with the first three coming for the Yankees. TJ Friedl tied it with a third-inning homer off Keider Montero (3-1), but Greene homered over the Cincinnati bullpen to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. Javier Báez homered in the fourth to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead, but Elly De La Cruz hit his 14th homer in the fifth — the fifth solo homer of the game. Detroit finally created some distance with a four-run sixth. Martinez walked Báez to start the inning and was replaced by Scott Barlow, who allowed a single and a walk to load the bases. Torres ended Barlow's outing with a sacrifice fly, but Taylor Rogers didn't fare any better. Jahmai Jones' infield single reloaded the bases and Greene made it 7-2 with a three-run double past a diving Spencer Steer in left. An intentional walk and an error loaded the bases for the third time in the inning, but Ian Gibault replaced Rogers and got the final two outs. Torres homered again in the seventh and Báez hit an RBI double in a three-run eighth. De La Cruz had an RBI double and scored in a three-run ninth for Cincinnati. The game started seven minutes late due to rain that fell throughout the night. If Steer could have made the diving catch in the sixth inning, the Reds could have gotten out of it only down 4-2. Rogers has 201 career RBIs. making him the first Tigers hitter to reach 200 before his 25th birthday since Travis Fryman in 1993. Detroit RHP Jack Flaherty (5-6, 3.41) was set to face RHP Brady Singer (6-4, 4.59) on Saturday.
