WWE Money in the Bank history: Every winner, cash in as ladder match reaches milestone

WWE Money in the Bank history: Every winner, cash in as ladder match reaches milestone Show Caption Hide Caption John Cena opens up about his past skin cancer diagnoses WWE icon and Hollywood star John Cena has opened up on making two cancerous spots removed in the past. Bang Showbiz In the 20 years since the WWE introduced "Money in the Bank" into the pro wrestling lexicon, it has become an entrenched gimmick for fans to look forward to and speculate about every year. The concept is simple enough. Each year the WWE dangles a match contract in a briefcase above the ring (literally) that can be used to challenge for any of its championship belts. The winner is determined by a ladder match that only ends when a participating wrestler climbs to retrieve the briefcase and one of the more coveted distinctions in sports entertainment within it. What started as a special event at Wrestlemania 21 has become one of the mainstay premium live events on the WWE calendar each year and led to so many unpredictable run-ins and surprises since the contract can be cashed in at any time. The 2025 Money in the Bank premium live event will take place Saturday, June 7 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, with Money in the Bank ladder matches again planned for both the men's and women's wrestlers. Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, Penta, Andrade and El Grande Americano are currently slated to participate in the men's Money in the Bank ladder match this year. Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Roxanne Perez, Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer are scheduled for the women's Money in the Bank ladder match. Those who wind up with the briefcase are often rewarded. There have been a total of 33 Money in the Bank contracts handed out since 2005. Only five times has a wrestler cashed in the contract and not wound up winning a title as a result. Here's a breakdown of every WWE Money in the Bank winner over the past 20 years ahead of the 2025 version of the event, as well as how every cash-in scenario played out once the Money in the Bank winners have been declared: R TRUTH RELEASED AFTER 17 YEARS: 'I want to thank WWE for the ride' WWE Money in the Bank history: Past winners, cash-in results 2005 Date : April 3, 2005 (at Wrestlemania 21) : April 3, 2005 (at Wrestlemania 21) Location : Staples Center in Los Angeles (now Arena) : Staples Center in Los Angeles (now Arena) Winner : Edge : Edge Cash in: Edge defeated John Cena for the WWE championship at New Year's Revolution on Jan. 8, 2006 moments after Cena had won the title in an elimination chamber match. 2006 Date : April 2, 2006 (at Wrestlemania 22) : April 2, 2006 (at Wrestlemania 22) Location : Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois : Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois Winner : Rob Van Dam : Rob Van Dam Cash in: Van Dam announced in May 2006 he would challenge Cena for the WWE Championship and then defeated him for the title at ECW One Night Stand on June 11, 2006. 2007 Date : April 1, 2007 (at Wrestlemania 23) : April 1, 2007 (at Wrestlemania 23) Location : Ford Field in Detroit : Ford Field in Detroit Winner : Mr. Kennedy : Mr. Kennedy Cash in: Mr. Kennedy became the first WWE wrestler to lose his MITB briefcase to another wrestler when he lost a match to Edge on the May 7, 2007 episode of Raw. What to do in Chicago: Katy Perry, Rauw Alejandro and a monster convention in Rosemont

Katy Perry: Fresh off her voyage to outer space, Katy Perry's Lifetimes Tour touches down in Chicago. Expect her to 'Roar.' Rebecca Black will also perform. Rauw Alejandro: After selling out two shows at the United Center, Rauw Alejandro has added a third night. The Latin Grammy Award-winner and Bad Bunny collaborator is touring this time with a live band following on the release of his fifth album, 'Cosa Nuestra.' Mel Robbins: The Oprah-endorsed self-help podcaster and best-selling author of 'The Let Them Theory' rolls into town, just in time for Mother's Day. Get a dose of her motivational advice live and in person. Maggie Nelson: 'The Argonauts' author Maggie Nelson is back with a collection of essays, 'Like Love.' Lucky for us, the Chicago Humanities Festival has paired her with another fabulous genre-bending essayist — Evanston's own Eula Biss. This promises to be a stellar conversation for anyone who likes to think. Ali Siddiq: Storyteller and standup comedian Ali Siddiq takes the stage at the Chicago Theatre. Siddiq served time for dealing drugs and mines his experience to offer his take — at times absurd, at times uncomfortable — on what it's like to live day in and day out with violence. Sturgill Simpson: Following on 'Passage du Desir,' an album he released under the name Johnny Blue Skies, country music singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson plays Allstate Arena. Expect Simpson to play music from throughout his career — not just that of his alter ego. The Newberry Consort: The Newberry Consort's upcoming concert was inspired by an Ottoman manuscript dating to about 1600 that offers an early account of the Spanish conquest of the Americas. It's designed to highlight the diverse, cosmopolitan nature of Ottoman society. 'Realm of Osman: Music from the Early Modern Ottoman Empire and Beyond' will feature music from the 17th to the 19th century as well as eight musicians on period instruments. 'At the Wake of a Dead Drag Queen': Writer-performer Terry Guest's show, inspired by the death of his uncle from AIDS at 35, 'is already attracting and exciting an audience,' according to a Tribune review. Directed by Mikael Burke, the show offers 'complex' and 'potent' performances as it explores the life of a small-town Southern drag queen. All Monsters Attack: Do you pine for the days of 'Creature Double Feature'? In a lineup, could you pick out Mothra, Ghidorah, Rodan and maybe even Hedorah? Then Rosemont is the place for you this weekend. Geek out at the All Monsters Attack convention, where Japanese kaiju and all species of sci-fi fantasy creatures will be feted. (That's feted, not fetid … though it is a monster show, so who knows?) Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago Family Day: 'Playoffs,' the museum's final installment of its Family Day series, celebrates Mexican sports. Expect family-friendly activities designed to tie into an exhibit featuring Paul Pfeiffer's work, 'Prologue to the Story of the Birth of Freedom.' Pfeiffer's multimedia pieces explore the relationship between the audience and pop culture icons. The best part? Free admission to the entire museum.

100 concerts for Chicago summer 2025 — starting with music this weekend

The live music picture has more or less taken shape for summer 2025. What's coming? This summer may not have the biggest of the big blockbuster concerts compared to last summer — farewell, Eras Tour — but that still leaves Beyoncé, AC/DC, The Weeknd, the recently announced Lady Gaga and lots more. It begins with the most concert-packed May in memory: Along with the first three of the aforementioned, Paul Simon is playing what's likely his farewell Chicago show at Symphony Center, Post Malone is at Wrigley and Sueños returns to Grant Park. Later in August, Oasis, My Chemical Romance, The Lumineers and System of A Down play back-to-back-to-back nights at Soldier Field — me, I'm gonna try not to even leave my parking space. Look for Riot Fest announcing its bands soon. We're all still feeling the loss of Pitchfork. The following also covers much of spring; it begins with concerts as soon as Sunday.
