First responders are the lifeblood of the communities we serve, and this annual tradition is one meaningful way we can express our gratitude for their courage, commitment, and tireless efforts." This year's theme "We See You. We Thank You," speaks to the often-unheralded work that first responders do—running toward disasters when others must evacuate or flee. The national 24/7 Day celebration raises awareness and recognizes these heroes from one of their largest supporters— convenience store retailers and industry suppliers. Across the country, more than 90 convenience retailing companies and brands will honor first responders with unique offers, and the event will also raise awareness of, and donations for, the Red Cross. Convenience stores are vital hubs in every community: 93% of Americans live within 10 minutes of one. With more than 152,000 convenience stores nationwide, the industry cumulatively conducts 160 million transactions daily, sells 80% of the nation's fuel, and donates more than $1 billion a year to charitable causes. Emergencies occur every day, and the American Red Cross, supported by convenience industry partners like Yesway, plays a critical role in helping those affected: The Red Cross responds to an emergency every eight minutes Each year, it addresses an average of 65,000 disasters 95% of its disaster relief workforce are volunteers "We hope you will join us in supporting the heroes who are always here for us, helping others and giving so much of themselves in times of incredible need," said Nathan Measom, Director of Cause Marketing for the American Red Cross. It's our honor to shine a light on these heroes and thank them for their incredible effort." "The 24/7 Day celebration was born from the realization of the deep connection between first responders and the convenience store community," said Stephanie Sikorski, Executive Director of the NACS Foundation. "We've heard too often that 'nothing good happens after zero-dark-thirty,' but our research shows that these small hours are when first responders and convenience stores unite across a range of efforts, from setting up for a disaster relief effort or simply getting a cup of coffee or healthy snack during a shift to keep energy high. We are proud to support these efforts, which keep our communities strong." *Offer valid only on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Wichita Falls health officials ‘concerned' as Texas' largest measles outbreak in 30 years spreads

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — After a school-aged, unvaccinated child died from measles in late February 2025, the first death in the recent outbreak, local officials are monitoring Texas' largest measles outbreak in about 30 years. It was declared eliminated from the US in 2000. 'This is the first time I've seen it like this in Texas,' Public Health District Director of Health Amy Fagan said. 'We are very concerned about how quickly measles spreads.' But as measles breaks out with 124 cases across Texas, the health department is keeping a close eye on what Fagan calls a highly infectious disease. 'We're just watching, waiting to see how it spreads,' Fagan said. 'The thing that they released yesterday, the day before, there was someone who traveled and stopped at an Allsups or, you know, had lunch at a certain restaurant, so you just never know.' With symptoms of high fever up to 104 degrees, cough, red or watery eyes, and a red, splotchy rash, Fagan said its infection rate makes it stand out against other diseases. 'The attack rate, the 90%, is so high,' Fagan said. 'We don't see that with other infectious diseases like cold or flu. Measles is pretty unique in that it will stay on surfaces for up to two hours, even if you clean it.' This is why Dr. Elizabeth Capt says the measles vaccine is key to stopping the spread of the disease. 'We expect that two doses of the MMR vaccine will provide lifelong immunity,' Capt said. 'There is not a current recommendation by the CDC to do additional doses of the vaccine as long as you've had two of those vaccines in childhood or two vaccines at any time in your life.' Capt, who practices out of Lynn County, in the thick of the outbreak, hopes to dispel fears. 'Cause autism or have other side effects, and that is absolutely false,' Capt said. 'I am here to tell you as a physician that this vaccine is safe, it is validated, and it is absolutely the right choice for your family.' 'This outbreak has become larger and larger, and so people have to make those choices for themselves,' Fagan said. 'But the measles vaccine is one that works and is effective, and we really hope that people will consider taking the vaccine.' While herd immunity typically exists when 95% of the population is vaccinated, Texas falls behind in that regard with a rate of 94.3%. Fagan added that the health district offers titer testing if you're unsure if you've been vaccinated or would like to check your immunity. Fagan also urged residents to call their doctor if they've experienced measles symptoms—do not visit in person. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
