ONE Championship: Rodrigues shines with clinical KO at ONE Fight Night 33

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues is building a reputation as one of the most dangerous strikers in combat sports – and her latest performance only added to the growing legend. Advertisement The 26-year-old atomweight champion delivered a clinical third-round knockout of Johanna Persson in the main event of ONE Fight Night 33 at Lumpinee Stadium on Saturday, earning her a second consecutive US$50,000 (HK$392,500) performance bonus in the process. 'I don't think there's a more dangerous striker on the planet right now,' Rodrigues said. 'We've been working hard to finish fights, and everything is coming together.' Rodrigues was originally scheduled to face rising Israeli star Shir Cohen – for the second time in a row – but the challenger once again withdrew because of an injury. In her previous outing, Rodrigues also picked up a bonus after stopping Marie McManamon, who had stepped in as a late replacement. This time, it was Sweden's Persson who answered the call. And although she started brightly, the Brazilian's patience and precision proved decisive. After losing some momentum in the second round, Rodrigues and her coach Leo Elias reassessed the timing, then pressed forward in the third with a well-drilled combination that ended the fight.

Johanna Persson has always had a competitive streak – it just didn't always serve her well. 'I wasn't so good at football,' she said with a laugh. 'I was more into kicking my opponents than kicking the ball.' A few red cards later, the Swede finally found a better outlet for her aggression. On Saturday, the 30-year-old will challenge Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for the ONE atomweight Muay Thai world title in the main event of ONE Fight Night 33 at Bangkok's legendary Lumpinee Stadium. It will be her promotional debut and the biggest night of her career. Play 'Of course she's the best,' Persson said of Rodrigues. 'She's defended the belt four times.
