Race-by-race preview and tips for Saturday meeting at Rosehill Gardens
Race 1 - 11.15am: TRAFFIC WARDEN @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1200 METRES) This looks like a race up for grabs and 6. Alphard did more than enough on debut at Canterbury, without any luck at all, to say he has some ability. Travelled well into the straight, then ran into a brick wall, had to stop and lose all momentum before closing off again to hold forth. Could face a similar problem from barrier one and would like to see some support for him, but a good each-way chance. 10. Sapling was far too good, leading all the way to win a Wyong maiden as favourite after being narrowly denied the start before. Back to 1200m, but imagine she goes forward and gets her chance to step up. 11. Spice Prawn has some ability despite being unplaced in both runs in her first preparation. Both trials have been sound, and if she lines up from the wide gate, it says the stable thinks she's a winning chance. 5. Without Peer is an interesting first starter, and he'd be one to keep an eye on. How to play it: Alphard EACH-WAY Race 2 - 11.50am: MIDWAY HANDICAP (1300 METRES) 11. Pretty Tavi is ready to win one of these races, and she might have come across the right set-up for her with a soft draw and a reasonably good track. Found a spot a bit too far off the pace under the circumstances there first-up, loomed like she might sprint past them, then flattened out beaten under a length. 2. Denman Star appreciated a fast run race and was able to sweep down the outside to win first-up at Canterbury, with the runner-up a subsequent winner. Interesting to see if he can make use of a better gate and be that length or two closer. 6. Harry's Bar was sent out favourite in that event at Canterbury and perhaps a shade disappointing in running fourth, though not beaten far. 1. Rolling Magic was advantaged by landing on the back of the speed when winning the Midway at Rosehill four weeks ago. Stays at 1300m and draws out, so that has to be a concern. How to play it: Pretty Tavi EACH-WAY Race 3 - 12.25pm: TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1100m) 2. Highway Strip has a significant gear change that hopefully means he's on track to live up to the potential he's shown to date. That's the concussion plates coming off, meaning his feet are in good order and the niggles he was reported to be battling are in the past. With that in mind, to get as close as he did to Clear Thinking after drawing near the outside in his last run back in January speaks to his ability. Trials have been good, he's drawn well, and he has to be the horse to beat. 1. First Landing faces a task from the wide gate with 61.5kg (weight less of an issue with Aaron Bullock riding), but he brings some strong form into the race, having chased Storm The Ramparts home in Benchmark 78 grade two weeks ago. Any luck, and he's a major threat. 9. Pony Soprano hasn't raced since finishing midfield in the Country Championships at Port Macquarie in February. Recent trial winner and worth keeping an eye on. 13. Cool Storm has had a stable change since failing in two runs last time in. Go back to her previous prep, and she placed in two handy Highways. On that form, she's far from out of it.

South Korean tourist blames airbag for eight-vehicle pileup in Pattaya, Thailand
BANGKOK: Pattaya police took a South Korean tourist into custody for a blood alcohol test late Tuesday (July 8) night after a van he was driving caused an eight-vehicle pileup, which he blamed on an airbag. The tourist, Jun Sung, 25, was unhurt after his white Toyota Alphard collided with eight other vehicles on Jom Tien 2 Road in Pattaya City, Tambon Nong Prue, Chonburi's Bang Lamung district, at around 11:36pm. The van also struck and knocked down a tree and a road sign on the traffic island. Most of the vehicles involved were damaged or hit on their sides while parked on the roadside, except for one, which was struck at the rear while driving. The impact caused the parked vehicles to be scattered across both sides of the road. - Photo: The Nation/ANN Pratya (surname withheld), 33, told police that he was driving when the Alphard hit his car's rear before colliding with other vehicles. Jun Sung told police via an interpreter that after his van hit the rear of Pratya's car, the airbag deployed and struck his face, causing him to lose control of the van, which then hit other vehicles, a tree, and a road sign. - Photo: The Nation/ANN Pol Capt Chainaret Pengkaen, deputy inspector at Pattaya police station, said the tourist appeared to have been driving at high speed and lost control at a curve before hitting the rear of Pratya's car, causing a chain reaction accident. Chainaret added that the tourist was taken into custody for a blood alcohol test, and police would assist in mediating damage compensation for the parties involved in the accident. - The Nation/ANN

Korean multi-crash driver says blinded by deployed airbag
PATTAYA - A South Korean who crashed his white SUV into several vehicles late Tuesday night told police he had been blinded by the airbag after rear-ending the car travelling ahead of him. The accident occurred on Jomtien's Second Road in the outbound lane to Sukhumvit Road, in Bang Lamung district, and was reported to Pattaya police about 11.36pm. Emergency responders reported finding eight damaged vehicles at the scene, and part of the road was immediately closed to traffic. Rescue volunteers said one injured person was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Pratchaya Prungsak told police his car had been rear-ended by a white Toyota Alphard, a large 7-seat SUV. The impact drove his car into another vehicle. The Alphard also continued forward and it struck several more cars, causing extensive damage. The driver of the Alphard, a 25-year-old South Korean identified only as Mr Junsung, told police that when the initial collision occurred the airbag deployed and struck him in the face, blocking his vision, and he lost control of the vehicle. Mr Junsung was detained for further questioning and an alcohol test. The other affected parties were all invited to Pattaya police station to negotiate compensation.

PHV driver calls Tada user 'entitled' for booking 4-passenger ride service and asking for 6-seater vehicle
PHV driver calls Tada user 'entitled' for booking 4-passenger ride service and asking for 6-seater vehicle A private-hire driver posted on Facebook a screenshot of a booking by a Tada user and labelled it as "entitled". Can you tell what the Tada user did to deserve that label? The booking was for a ride from Marina One Residences to Terminal 1 at Changi Airport on June 24 at 6pm. It included a note that read: "Alphard/Vellfire only. Two adults and two babies, three big luggage, two strollers and two baby cots. Please come to the basement as it is easier to load. Thank you." So how was the Tada user being "entitled"? PHOTO: STOMP The problem was that the booking was for AnyTADA. AnyTADA is one of 16 ride services that Tada users can choose from to accommodate different numbers of passengers. The AnyTADA option is for up to four passengers. In this case, there are two adults and two babies, which are four passengers, so AnyTADA appears to be the correct option. But the note also stated: "Alphard/Vellfire only." The Toyota Vellfire and Alphard are minivans that can seat up to six passengers. Since larger vehicles cost more to book, the Tada user seemingly tried to book a six-seater vehicle ride under the category of four-seater vehicles to save money. Stomper Herman, who alerted Stomp to the post in a Facebook group for private-hire drivers, said: "These people are not humans, they are aliens." A netizen commented on the Facebook post: "This is a joker to the maximum. If you want five-star service, pay five-star money. Even at a Kopitiam, we must pay 50 cents for a glass of water." Others joke that they should have booked a ride from a moving company. "It seems more like a delivery service than picking up passengers," said one commenter. Stomp recently reported on a Tada driver who called out riders who ignore the ride-hailing platform's policies to save money .
