'Officers gained access to the vehicle and took the two dogs to a local vet, however, both were found to be dead on arrival.' With the hot weather set to continue, police are urging people to follow the Scottish SPCA guidance on dog care in the summer, available on its website.

On the east coast of the country, temperatures are expected to reach 25C on Thursday and 28C on Friday. They should peak at up to 31C on Saturday before coming down to 28C or 29C on Sunday. There is also the possibility that Scotland could record its hottest day of the year, currently held by the 29.1C seen at Grangemouth Refinery in Falkirk on June 20. Two dogs have been found dead in a car in Paisley where it is believed they were in distress due to the hot weather. Concerned members of the public contacted Police Scotland at around 1.05pm on Thursday July 10, after the pair of pets were spotted trapped in a vehicle on Kintyre Avenue in Linwood. ‌ Officers attended the scene and forced entry into the car to save the dogs, one a Maltese and the other an Alsatian Lurcher Cross. ‌ Both the animals were taken to a local vet but were tragically pronounced dead on arrival. A 53-year-old man and 48-year-old woman have since been reported to the Procurator Fiscal. At the time the dogs were found, the Met Office reports the temperature in Linwood was around 21C. Police are also now urging people to be extra cautious as the hot weather continues across Scotland, with temperatures set to hit 30C in some areas this weekend.
