Snoop Dogg Announces Gospel Album ‘Altar Call' & Its Release Date

Snoop Dogg is heading back to his church roots for his next album, Altar Call, which will be arriving on April 27. The project will serve as a tribute to Snoop's late mother. 'April 27, I'm dropping a gospel album on Death Row Records. It's called Altar Call,' he said in a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday (April 15). 'You heard it first. A gospel album, April 27. God is good. Won't he do it?' Snoop's late mother is featured on the project's cover art. Beverly Tate passed away in 2021. 'U taught me how to read and write how to struggle and fight and all the facts of life,' Snoop said at the time of her death. 'Now you finally got ya wings, mama.' Snoop Dogg recently sat down with Okayplayer to detail his mother's impact on him and how her spirit is channeled through Altar Call. 'The spirit of my mother will forever live within me. This album is a reflection of what she has taught me — to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world. Just another chapter out of the Bible of Love.' Snoop's first gospel album arrived in 2018, with Bible of Love featuring assists from Faith Evans, Charlie Wilson and more. The West Coast legend closed out 2024 alongside his longtime partner Dr. Dre with their Missionary album in December. The LP debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200. Snoop Dogg has words for his critics following Trump Crypto Ball backlash

Snoop Dogg is setting the record straight after facing heavy criticism for his DJ performance at the Crypto Ball during Donald Trump's inauguration weekend. In a new sit-down with 'The Breakfast Club' on Wednesday (May 14), the rap icon made it clear that he's not here to justify that appearance — especially when he's spent so much of his life giving back. Trending Black Lives Matter: Social media hits back at talks of Derek Chauvin pardon Georgia family fights for control after brain-dead mom kept alive to carry pregnancy JAY-Z deep cuts that deserve a spot in every real fan's rotation 'I DJed at the Crypto Ball for what, 30 minutes… Made a whole bunch of money, made a lot of relationships to help the inner city and teach financial literacy,' Snoop said. 'That's 30 minutes. I've been doing great things for the community for 30 years. So which one is it? 30 for 30?' He insisted the event wasn't politically motivated. 'I don't represent the Republican Party. I don't represent the Democratic Party. I represent the gangster party. Period.' The booking, he explained, came through longtime business partner David Sacks and was part of a broader crypto initiative meant to bring resources 'back to the hood.' 'Cool, I'm with you! You're helping the hood out! How does [the hate] work when I'm tryna help y'all, but y'all talking [trash]?' When online backlash followed, Snoop didn't hesitate to confront some of his critics. 'I would jump right in their DMs with a video like, 'You b**ch a** n**ga... What you wanna do?' And they'd be like, 'Oh man, I'm just a fan,'' he shared. 'Don't come for me if you don't know me.' Snoop continued, 'My work should speak for me. Don't take my personal or my business [decisions] and try to involve it in my life or who I am as a person. The things that I do in real life should matter to you more.' In the same interview, Snoop previewed his new album, Iz It A Crime (somewhat inspired by the aforementioned critiques), which will arrive on Friday (May 16) with an accompanying film. The LP will include features from Sexyy Red, Wiz Khalifa and others. He described his chemistry with Sexyy Red, revealing that their studio time turned into a week-long creative exchange. '[She] is the home girl. I love her to death,' he said. 'She came back to the studio like a week straight and we just bonding like uncle and niece… She just reminds me of me. She just don't give a f**k.' The album will arrive after Altar Call, Snoop's recent gospel compilation, and Missionary, his joint release with Dr. Dre. The Death Row Records Gospel Album —Yes, You Read That Right — Is Here

Death Row Records is in the gospel business. Today, the legendary label released Altar Call, a 21-track project featuring celebrated singers such as Jamie Foxx, John P. Kee, and others. The project is dedicated to Snoop's mother Beverly Tate, who died in 2021 at the age of 70. Altar Call arrives on what would have been her 74th birthday. 'The spirit of my mother will forever live within me,' Snoop told Okayplayer about the project. 'This album is a reflection of what she has taught me — to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world. Just another chapter out of the Bible of Love.' Snoop Dogg executive produced the project and sought to blend gospel with R&B, hip-hop, and other genres. 'It's always been on my heart,' he told Dr. Dre's Beats 1 radio show at the time of gospel music. 'I just never got around to it because I always be doing gangsta business or doing this or doing that, I just felt like it's been on my heart too long. I need to do it now.' He also said, 'I am blessed to have so many legendary friends join me on this journey. As the country is in one of its heaviest times and is so divided, I wanted to make an album that spreads love and unity around the world. That's what I was taught, so that's all I know. Real love.' He once again enlisted his wide network to contribute to Altar Call, which includes Jamie Foxx covering Bill Withers' 'Grandma's Hands,' as well as Death Row artists Charlie Breal and JANE HANDCOCK singing 'Grace and Mercy', and 'Just Believe,' respectively. Snoop Dogg Reacts To IShowSpeed Confusing Him With Impersonator

IShowSpeed thought he met one of the most popular rappers ever this weekend and had to snap a selfie to celebrate the moment. Unfortunately, the man in the photo was not Snoop Dogg, and the Long Beach, Calif., rapper got a great laugh out of the moment. The popular streamer attended the Fatal Fury boxing event in NYC's Times Square on Friday (May 2) and ran into a man who looked like the 'Drop It Like It's Hot' rapper. Footage surfaced of the man sitting next to him, taking a photo, having a brief conversation, and then parting ways. Given Speed's hilarious mistake, the video went viral and eventually made its way to Snoop's timeline. The 53-year-old rapper reshared the post and wrote 'Almost' with multiple laughing emojis. The comments were loaded with laughs from several users and a few funny quips. 'Unc he starting look like you more than you,' one fan wrote. 'Damn, that means u gota meet him for real Snoop,' another fan wrote. One person called out who the impersonator was, an actor named Eric Finch, who is known for being a Snoop look-alike and even shot a Corona commercial with the legendary rapper once. Check out the moment below. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records recently shared their gospel compilation album Altar Call, which was dedicated to his late mother, Beverly Tate. Jamie Foxx, Jazze Pha, October London, John P. Kee, and Charlie Bereal appeared on the 21-song project, among many other artists. 'The spirit of my mother will forever live within me. This album is a reflection of what she has taught me to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world. Just another chapter out of the 'Bible of Love,'' he told Okayplayer, labeling the album the sequel to his 2018 LP, Bible Of Love. Listen to Altar Call below.
