Review: Canadian brand Cozey launches modular sofa bed
Could the Cozey Neptune Sofa-Bed be filling a gap in the Canadian marketplace? It's definitely filling a small corner in my spare bedroom. I've found it particularly challenging to find a sofa bed that can fit in my spare bedroom, as it's a very small space. The Neptune is a modular sofa bed, so you can order a configuration that accommodates your needs. Cozey is known for its modular sofas (we've tried quite a few of the brand's products, from its original modular sofa called the Altus , to the plusher Ciello sofa and the new outdoor dining set ). The Montreal-based brand continues to expand to create pieces that can conform and complement spaces of different uses, sizes and styles. I was excited when Cozey launched the Neptune because I wanted my small room to be multipurpose, but couldn't find a sofa bed that would fit. Overall, I'm thrilled that I found a sofa bed to fit my limited space and would recommend it for others looking to do the same. Read below for my full review. What: Neptune Sofa-Bed Collection Price: $2,205 for a two-seater with two ottomans ( optional sleep kit add-on , $390) Where to buy: Cozey The Neptune is unlike any other sofa bed I've tried. Traditionally, a sofa bed is a couch with a heavy, springy mattress folded beneath the seats. The Neptune is a completely different mechanism. The conversion of sofa-to-bed and vice versa may take longer than the traditional style, but it's not arduous and awkward to pull out and fit in. It's a smoother, lighter experience. The Neptune can be purchased in various configurations, so it can accommodate different-sized and shaped spaces. It has a medium firmness, both as a sofa and a bed. It's comfortable as a sofa and more comfortable than most traditional sofa beds, but it's ideal for a short-term sleeping solution. I've ordered many pieces from Cozey, and the delivery is always seamless; the Neptune was no exception. The Neptune comes in boxes, one per seat plus the arms (and one box per ottoman). Each piece is wrapped in a material to ensure it arrives in good shape. Assemble this sofa with two people — I usually assemble alone, but it's just so much easier with a second set of hands. You don't need any tools, just some twists, turns and slides. Twisting in the legs is as easy as it gets, sliding the backs and arms takes a few tries. It took me approximately an hour to assemble, from start to finish, complete with the unboxing. Check out Cozey's assembly video . It's a medium-to-firm sofa that has clean lines and good support. If you're looking for a cozy couch, consider adding fluffy pillows and throws to enhance the softness. I selected the sofa in 'leaf,' which is a muted green and made from Cozey's performance fabric. This upholstery is durable, easy to clean and stain-resistant. It strikes a good balance between comfort and durability, but it's not as soft as some of the brand's other fabrics, such as chenille or corduroy. In terms of a sofa bed, it's great. The bed is made from the sofa pillows laid out flat, and there's the option to add on the sleep kit — so no uncomfortable springs digging into your body. However, even with the sleep kit, you can feel a bit of the grooves between the pillows. It's more than adequate for a bonus bed to host visitors. As mentioned, the space for this sofa is small, so transforming it from couch to bed and vice versa requires light gymnastics. It's totally a space issue and not a sofa issue, it's simple to transform and even easier if you have a decent amount of room. Modularity: My problem is space. The Neptune's modularity solves that. I'm thrilled that I finally found a sofa bed that can work in a spare bedroom that's really a 'plus den.' When ordering the sofa, I debated whether to get one or two seats and ottomans. I ended up getting two of each, so I have the option to have a double bed versus a single bed. I'm not fully convinced that the double fits the space (sans gymnastics), so I may go down to a single and put the second seat and ottoman in a different room — which is no problem, because of the Neptune's modularity. Storage: My problem is space. The Neptune's storage compartments, located under the seat (a bit difficult to get your stuff in and out because of how the seat pulls forward) and the ottoman (this is 10/10 storage). I like that a sleep kit is available to specifically fit the Neptune and the size I selected. However, I don't need pillows and linens, I just want the mattress pad. I'd prefer if I could order the sleep kit a la carte. Now, I have too many extra pillows. I'll likely give them away as they are currently nestled in the precious storage areas of the ottomans. That being said, I do find it easy to unpack and pack the sleep kit into their bags. It's not like a sleeping bag experience, where it's a full-body workout to get the bag back into the stuff sack. The Neptune sofa bed is a good solution to my space problems. I recommend the Neptune to people who want to have a spare bed. It's simple to convert and useful as storage. If you don't need the full sleep kit (with the mattress pad, pillow and linens), you may want to order a separate sleeping pad from somewhere else , but ensure you measure your sofa bed configuration carefully and order the correct size. Military Matters: A Birdseye View of Altus AFB
ALTUS (KFDX/KJTL) — From an outsider's perspective, one might expect to see smaller planes like fighter jets at an air force base. That's not always the case. Altus Air Force Base is a bit different, housing planes that are slightly larger than fighter jets. One of which is the C-17, piloted by Lt. Col. J.D. Shaw. 'Altus's mission is to train pilots and loadmasters how to operate this airplane so they can go out to their base, whether it be Charleston, McChord, Dover, McGuire and then employ this airplane around the world,' Shaw said. Altus Air Force Base specializes in air mobility. All three planes they train, the KC-135, KC-46, and C-17, accomplish this through their unique missions. The C-17 is most specialized toward cargo delivery, according to Loadmaster trainer, Sr. Master Sgt. Kris Mack. 'We're more concerned with the cargo compartment as far as loading cargo, and you have to be prepared,' Mack said. 'It could be a tank in there, it could be a palette, it could be something quite easy. It could be humanitarian aid. It could be, you know, things that take a little bit more concentration as far as the restraint.' Another aspect of air mobility is ensuring that planes can travel from point A to point B, regardless of the distance. Lt. Col. Broderick Lockett trains crews to refuel planes in midair with the KC-135. 'You know, think you're going 400 miles an hour down the highway and actually reaching out with another car and holding on to each other, and you know, shaking hands,' Lockett said. 'That's what we do. Except at 26,000 feet, you know, going up to 600 miles an hour.' Not all air refueling looks or works the same. Altus Air Force Base also has one of the more advanced aircraft designed for mid-air refueling, the KC-46 Pegasus, which can both give and receive fuel. A unique trait that Lt. Col. Scott Heinlein believes makes it a vital tool in any situation the aircraft is in. 'Instead of having to fly all the way back to our base, get gas again, we can find another tanker that has already taken off from that base, take that fuel in the air so that it extends that range even closer,' Heinlein said. 'So, the net result is we get our receivers closer to the fight, making them more effective in combat.' At the center of it all, for the base, though, is the relationship it has with the city of Altus. Lt. Col. Shaw says he's been more involved with the surrounding community at Altus than at any other base he's ever been to. 'The city is super welcoming,' Shaw said. 'I think they recognize the value that Altus brings to the city. And so, it is a true relationship that one could not survive without the other.' Altus Power Announces New Project in Superior, Colorado
Clean electric power generated will benefit Blue Sport Stable sports facility STAMFORD, Conn., March 04, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Altus Power (NYSE: AMPS), the largest commercial-scale provider of clean electric power, today announced the operationalization of a 1.4 MW rooftop solar project at the Blue Sport Stable sports facility in Superior, Colo., providing the majority of the facility's annual energy needs required to power its ice rinks, pickleball, basketball and other courts, turf and health and wellness facility. Project team appointed for Port Macquarie hospital upgrade in Australia
The New South Wales (NSW) state government in Australia has appointed a project team for the $265m upgrade of the Port Macquarie Base Hospital. Turner & Townsend has been chosen as the project manager, with Altus selected as the cost manager after a competitive tender process. Port Macquarie Labor spokesperson Cameron Murphy MLC said: 'The upgrade of Port Macquarie Base will provide a boost to the local economy, expected to support almost 500 direct jobs with the potential to support thousands of indirect jobs throughout the life of the project.' 'There will be many opportunities for the community and staff to be involved throughout the planning of the redevelopment to help shape the upgrade of their local hospital.' The Port Macquarie Base Hospital Infrastructure Upgrade will focus on essential enhancements, including the mechanical systems of the existing hospital building and the expansion of the site's emergency and maternity departments. The project's scope will be finalised during the planning and design stage, with construction timeframes set to be confirmed upon engaging a builder. This upgrade comes in addition to the $33.97m Helipad and Car Park Project at the hospital, which has recently delivered more than 180 additional parking spaces and a new rooftop helipad, significantly improving emergency healthcare access for patients. Additionally, the NSW Government is enhancing the Sturt Highway in Wagga Wagga with a $13.9m upgrade. Starting 4 March 2025, this upgrade will reconstruct a 1.8km section of the highway, including a new road surface, widened lanes, and dedicated turning lanes, aiming to reduce road damage and provide a safer and more comfortable journey. Cyclists will benefit from new shoulders on both sides of the highway. Earlier this month, pier and piling work began on four of the six bridges in the Singleton Bypass project in Australia. The project is funded jointly by the Australian and NSW governments.
