Yoga Park inaugurated at NMPA to promote wellness
Mangaluru: A Yoga Park was inaugurated in the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) residential colony within the port premises by Sushma Akkaraju, president, NMP Mahila Samaj, in the presence of the chairman, deputy chairperson, and CVO. Developed to promote health and wellness within the port community, the park features a dedicated walking track and a spacious open area for yoga, providing a peaceful environment for daily practice. All participants enthusiastically performed yoga as per the common yoga protocol under the 'Yoga Sangam' initiative, one of the 10 signature events of IDY 2025 introduced by the ministry of AYUSH. To build awareness and enthusiasm ahead of the main event, NMPA conducted a weeklong range of wellness activities in the port and nearby schools and colleges. These included Y-Break Yoga sessions for employees, daily morning and evening yoga routines for employees and schoolchildren, a special session on 'Yogic Lifestyle and Relaxation Techniques', and a yoga session for college students. The event concluded with a collective resolve to adopt yoga as a daily discipline and a step towards building a healthier and more mindful workforce. Around 1,500 students from various institutions of Alva's Education Foundation participated in a 45-minute mass yoga demonstration, following the common yoga protocol. The programme was part of a nationwide initiative conducted simultaneously at over one lakh locations across the country.

Silver jubilee of Karunbithil Shibira from May 20
Mangaluru : Karunbithil Shibira , an annual musical camp held in the remote village of Nidle, located on the Dharmasthala-Nelliady road, will hold its Silver Jubilee camp from Tuesday to May 25. Since its inception in 2000, this event has played a pivotal role in nurturing and inspiring music students, instilling a deep passion for learning and artistic growth. This year, Vidwan RN Sreelatha, Vid Neyveli R Santhanagopalan, Vid Hosahalli Venkatram, Vid VV Subramaniam, Vid Nagai Muralidharan, Vid Srimushnam V Rajarao, Vid Maruthi Prasad, Vid D Srinivas, Vid Vidyabhushana, and many other renowned musicians will grace the event. Each of these artistes enjoys global recognition and boasts an impressive list of accomplishments. The grand finale of this year's Karunbithil Shibira will be marked by a concert performance by Vid Vidyabhushana, culminating the event on a high note. What started as a humble gathering of the Karunbithil family, led by the renowned violinist Vid Vittal Ramamurthy from Chennai and his sisters, settled in various parts of the country, has now evolved into a highly anticipated annual tradition. Initially drawing a small group of students, the Karunbithil Shibira has flourished into a significant event, attracting over 200 participants from across Dakshina Kannada, and even from far-off regions. The shibira promises a year-long journey of enlightenment and enjoyment. Throughout its history, the Karunbithil Shibira gained widespread recognition due to the presence of star artistes who graced the event.
