'Government will follow due process on Nick Adams nomination,' says Anwar
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will respond to the proposed nomination of Nick Adams as U.S. ambassador through proper diplomatic channels, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. 'It's still too early. The government will follow due process while maintaining good diplomatic ties with the United States,' he told the press at Surau Al Istiqlal, Precint 14. Anwar said that the matter would be given due consideration once it reaches the appropriate stage. On July 11, US President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social his intention to nominate Nick Adams as the next American ambassador to Malaysia. Trump described Adams as a 'remarkable patriot' and successful entrepreneur, commending his dedication to what he called 'the Virtues of American Greatness.' Following the announcement, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil reaffirmed that Malaysia retains the sovereign right to approve or reject any ambassadorial candidate under international diplomatic norms. He said the nomination must undergo the agrément process—a formal diplomatic procedure through which a host country consents to a proposed ambassador—before any appointment can be finalised. Fahmi also stated that the Cabinet has not yet received an official submission from Wisma Putra regarding Adams' nomination and that the matter will be considered once it is formally presented. Adams' potential appointment has sparked strong reactions across Malaysia's political spectrum, with concerns over his far-right rhetoric and staunch support for both Trump and the Israeli Zionist regime. On Sunday (July 13), Amanah Youth condemned the nomination, calling it an insult to Malaysia's dignity and foreign policy, and labelling Adams a far-right propagandist. PKR Youth also raised concerns, saying Adams' extreme views conflict with Malaysian values, while Selangor PAS Youth urged Wisma Putra to reject the nomination, citing his alleged anti-Islam rhetoric and support for Israel's military actions. DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said on Tuesday (July 15) that the party would issue a formal statement regarding Adams' nomination.

Amanah Youth urges Negri Sembilan government to tap reserves instead of raising water tariffs
SEREMBAN: Amanah Youth has urged the Negri Sembilan government to utilise its reserves to help the state water concessionaire offset rising costs of treating drinking water rather than seeking an increase in tariffs. Its state communications director, Zainal Lutfi Zainal Fitr, said the wing believes that increasing water tariffs now is not appropriate, as the people are already facing a higher cost of living, with the latest being an increase in electricity tariffs. "The increase in electricity and water tariffs at the same time is going to be a double whammy to the people. "If water tariffs are also increased, it will surely hit those in the B40 and M40 categories badly," he said. Zainal Lutfi said it would be judicious for the state government to utilise its reserves, which amount to RM1.02bil, to assist Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan (Sains) with its operating expenses and to continue providing a quality water supply. He also urged the state government to hold discussions with all stakeholders, including NGOs and elected representatives, before making any decision which may add to the burden of the people. On Tuesday (July 15), Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said that the state government had submitted an application to the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) to review water rates for domestic users in the state. He said a marginal increase was necessary to enable Sains to continue operating. Aminuddin said a slight increase was also justified, as approximately RM20mil annually was used to replace old and broken pipes in the state. He said Sains also had to spend money to repair and upgrade water tanks to ensure the supply in some areas is not disrupted. Last week, SPAN said it had received applications from 10 states to review their water tariff rates.

DAP to issue stand on Nick Adams' envoy appointment: Loke
PETALING JAYA: DAP will issue an official statement soon on the controversial potential appointment of Australian political commentator Nick Adams as a special envoy to Malaysia, said party secretary-general Anthony Loke. 'DAP will make a stand. We will issue a statement on that. 'I have just instructed our International Secretary to issue a statement,' he told reporters after officiating the launch of Malaysian Maritime Week 2025. Adams' reported nomination has sparked backlash across the political spectrum, with critics citing his history of far-right rhetoric and open support for US President Donald Trump and the Israeli Zionist regime. On Sunday (July 13), Amanah Youth called the appointment an insult to Malaysia's dignity and foreign policy, labelling Adams a far-right propagandist. PKR Youth also raised concerns, saying Adams' extremist views contradict Malaysian values. Selangor PAS Youth similarly urged Wisma Putra to reject the nomination, citing his anti-Islam rhetoric and staunch support for Israel. Adams, a US-based pro-Trump commentator with no diplomatic experience, is widely known for his provocative public statements.

Calls grow to reject Nick Adams as US Ambassador to Malaysia
PETALING JAYA: More voices are urging the Malaysian government to reject the appointment of American conservative figure Nick Adams as the US Ambassador to Malaysia. In a statement, Selangor PAS Youth Chief Mohamed Sukri Omar said the government, through Wisma Putra, should take a firm and clear stance against the nomination to protect the sensitivities of the people. He added that the government should uphold the dignity of a nation consistently advocating for humanitarian issues, especially regarding Palestine. "Nick Adams is not just a controversial figure. He openly spreads hatred towards Islam and supports the Zionist colonial regime without consideration. "He once pressured a restaurant in the United States to fire a waitress simply for wearing a 'Free Palestine' pin. This is an inhumane act that demonstrates extreme and hateful attitudes towards the oppressed Palestinian people's struggle," he said in a statement on Monday (July 14). He emphasised that Malaysia does not need a diplomatic representative who brings extremist and pro-Zionist ideologies, as it is a majority-Muslim country that upholds the principles of justice and solidarity with oppressed people. "This appointment is an insult to the sensitivities of Malaysians. If the government remains silent or accepts this appointment, it will be seen as betraying the people's firm stance in supporting the Palestinian cause. ALSO READ: Appointment of Nick Adams should be rejected, says Amanah Youth "This is not just a diplomatic issue, but a matter of principle, dignity, and the nation's stance on humanitarian issues," he said. Mohamed Sukri said Malaysia has the absolute right under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to reject any ambassadorial candidate deemed unsuitable or harmful to domestic harmony. He added that firm action is needed to defend the nation's image and stance and to reject any efforts to spread extremist pro-Zionist ideologies in the country. "Selangor PAS Youth stands firmly with Malaysians in rejecting elements of Islamophobia, tyranny, and injustice. The appointment of Nick Adams as the US Ambassador to Malaysia is a form of provocation against the nation's historic stance on the Palestinian issue." "We urge the government to use its power to reject his nomination and send a clear message that Malaysia will not be a stage for normalising Zionist tyranny or a testing ground for Islamophobic extremism," he said. He added that Malaysia is not a testing ground for pro-Zionist ambassadors and must defend the nation's dignity. On Sunday (July 13), Amanah Youth international bureau chairman Mus'ab Muzahar Said that the appointment of Nick Adams is an insult to the country's dignity and foreign policy. "Nick Adams is not a diplomat or a statesman. He is merely a far-right propagandist, a staunch Trump supporter, and a vocal supporter of the Zionist Israeli regime. "His rhetoric on social media is full of hatred, racism, and Islamophobic sentiments, clearly deviating from the spirit of mature bilateral relations," he said in a Facebook post

Appointment of Nick Adams should be rejected, says Amanah Youth
SHAH ALAM: The appointment of conservative influencer Nick Adams as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia is seen as an insult to the country's dignity and foreign policy, says the Amanah Youth international bureau chairman Mus'ab Muzahar then said that Malaysia upholds sovereignty, regional peace, and solidarity with oppressed people, especially Palestinians. He added that allowing Adams to come to Malaysia as the US Ambassador would open the door to the US's toxic agenda and politics of hatred and said that the appointment should be firmly rejected under Article 4 of the Vienna Convention. "Nick Adams is not a diplomat or a statesman. He is merely a far-right propagandist, a staunch Trump supporter, and a vocal supporter of the Zionist Israeli regime. "His rhetoric on social media is full of hatred, racism, and Islamophobic sentiments, clearly deviating from the spirit of mature bilateral relations," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 13). Earlier, US President Donald Trump, via his Truth Social platform on Thursday, nominated Nick Adams as the US Ambassador to Malaysia. Trump stated that Nick is not only an extraordinary nationalist and a successful entrepreneur but also a bestselling author, speaker, and renowned commentator. Mus'ab then said that Malaysia's sovereignty allows the country to determine who is fit to represent foreign nations on its soil. "This is not a personal matter; it is a matter of principle and national dignity. Malaysia is not a testing ground for US political puppets," he said. He emphasised that they demand diplomacy that brings justice, not propaganda that divides the world. Mus'ab then said that he believes rejecting Nick Adams is not a threat to Malaysia-US relations, but rather a message that Malaysia is principled, dignified, and does not bow to the geopolitical games of that country.
