‘The players want to do better' – Leicester City ready to bounce back against West Ham says Miquel

'The players want to do better' – Leicester City ready to bounce back against West Ham says Miquel Leicester City manager Amandine Miquel says that her side are keen to bounce back to winning ways after last weekend's disappointing draw at Crystal Palace. The Foxes were held to a 2-2 draw against the already-relegated Eagles. Leicester City had led twice in the game before being pegged back. Advertisement Leicester City end the campaign with a home fixture against West Ham United. When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, manager Miquel said that the players are keen to return to winning ways. 'We were a bit upset at the end of the game last weekend because we didn't control it well enough and didn't react well at 2-1,' Miquel said. 'I think the players want to do better. 'It's a completely different opponent that are in good form but we will be looking to finish strongly in our stadium.' Latest opponents West Ham United have enjoyed an excellent season and could yet finish in the top half of the Barclays Women's Super League table. Miquel believes that her side would have had similar success if not for a catalogue of injuries. Advertisement She said 'Their project and their game plan could be really close to ours. The difference between them and us right now are the injuries. If they spent 19 games out of the 22 without a striker, which was our case, it's a different season. 'If we had lost less players, we would be looking more like them, closer to that upper part of mid-table.' Forward Shekiera Martinez has hit the headlines for West Ham United of late. She has hit 10 goals in just 11 Barclays Women's Super League outings. Miquel says that Leicester City won't change their approach to defending in a bid to contain the German. She said 'We will defend as usual. Defending is the thing that we've improved the most this season, so we will make sure that we stick to our defensive concepts and apply them well. We will try to limit any clear chances as much as we can by being really narrow close to our goal.' Leicester City's Barclays Women's Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.

This has been my hardest season

Leicester manager Amandine Miquel says this season did not allow her to show her abilities as a manager amid a campaign of "struggle" in the Women's Super took charge last summer, and has kept them in the WSL albeit while fighting against relegation Foxes are currently one point short of their total from last season with one game to go, at home to West Ham on if this campaign has allowed her to show her best as a manager, Miquel said: "No I don't think it has. I have had all struggles you can have in your life, in one season."But people will look at the table, not in context. Just not being relegated is good enough, given everything we had to deal with. Hopefully we have a chance to start fresh next season, as a real first season."Miquel, who joined Leicester from Reims for her first job outside of her native France, has had to deal with significant injuries and a lack of goal threat which saw the Foxes score just three times in their first 11 league if this has been her hardest season as a coach, Miquel said: "Definitely. When you have to really struggle hard to get a starting 11 with no offensive players, it makes you think even harder on how to manage in that time. Any hard season is when you learn a lot."Miquel however also wanted to focus on the positives of this season, including an improved defensive record which has seen Leicester concede 10 fewer league goals than in she said there would be plenty of change to come this summer in the transfer window, although she is not yet sure of her budget as she aims to extend Leicester's stay in the WSL."It's going to be a long transfer window, we must be calm and take our time to find right fit for positions," she said. "We do not know what squad we will have left, and the budget is not completely decided."I will spend my holiday in my office in Leicester to make sure we do not miss out on the right player."

'We will look at points after the last game'

Leicester City boss Amandine Miquel refuses to be distracted by the relegation battle even though her side could secure Women's Super League safety this currently sit seven points clear of the relegation zone with three matches remaining and could secure their spot in the top flight prior to kick-off on Sunday (15:00 BST) if Crystal Palace lose to West Ham (12:30 BST) earlier in the day. "We will look at the points after the last game and hopefully, we will have enough," Miquel said."If it's not this weekend, we still have two more games for us to get a really good overall result."Leicester are hosting an injury-ravaged Manchester City, who have only won two of their past five WSL matches to leave their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread. However, Miquel is not underestimating Nick Cushing's side."Even though they have injuries, they still have a good squad and good players. We know when you have injuries, it's the moment for others to show themselves. It won't be easier than usual, it'll just be different," she said."We have focused on us. We want to be stronger defensively and make sure we keep the threats offensively."

What the managers said: Leicester 1-1 Tottenham

Tottenham came from behind to end their five-match losing streak in the Women's Super League with a draw at Leicester City. Here is what the managers said after the game:Leicester boss Amandine Miquel speaking to Sky Sports:"I think a draw is OK. We would have preferred to win but we could also lose it so we accept a point and continue for the next games."I felt we looked tired, I don't know if it was the sun or the international break. Players were tired and it was hard to follow the rhythm, less energy than last week but got the point so that is good."Unbeaten is better than anything but obviously frustrated not to get the second goal but happy to get the point and keep moving forward."We have to keep positive, work on what we can improve and make sure that for the next games we look a bit fresher."Tottenham boss Robert Vilahamn speaking to Sky Sports:"We got a point which is better than the last games we've had. Good football, create so many chances, had most of the possession. In one way we're doing a good game but we're not really there yet to manage to actually win the game but I'm actually really proud of how we played today."If you look at the team they don't have the best self confidence in the world, where we are in the table you can see that it's actually a really good team playing good football so that's why I'm actually quite calm about where we are because we are taking steps in the way we want to play."We started the last game against West Ham about how we want to look and how we want to play for the club and develop for next season. It was a good performance but not good attacking football against West Ham, today was better so I hope we can go to Aston Villa in a few weeks and actually win that game by scoring a few goals and looking like we did today."

Leicester 'closest' to what I want

[Getty Images] Amandine Miquel said last week's victory over Brighton is the "closest" her Leicester side have come to playing the way she wants. The Foxes scored three first-half goals and held off a late charge from Brighton to win 3-2 and pull six points clear from the bottom of the table. "This game is the closest we've been to what I like the team to look like," said Miquel, who took charge in the summer. Advertisement "I'm not really a fan of having the ball. It has been long for the players to understand that when you don't have the ball, you can still win games. "Everyone thinks that having the ball makes you a winner, which is not always the case." She added: "It's starting to look like I want it to look like. "Defensively, it's not good enough yet. We've taken too many goals in the second phase, and we have to improve that. But on the offensive aspects, I think the last games' first half looks closer to what they'd like to have." Here are the key lines from Miquel's news conference before facing Tottenham on Sunday (14:00 GMT): She has "lost count" of the number of injuries her side are dealing with. Miquel would not confirm if Missy Goodwin had recovered from illness and would be back in the squad on Sunday. The Leicester boss wants her side to have "no regrets" after their game against Tottenham. She said previously in the season, anyone "that could kick a ball was playing forward" because of injuries, but now there is a "fight" to be in the starting XI. Leicester will be "fighting in every game, even if it's just to climb up one position".
