CM tells officials to develop Amaravati into a blue-green city
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu instructed the officials to develop Amaravati as a blue-green city that has the State's largest lung space, by enhancing greenery around the trunk roads, the connecting roads and the roads in the LPS layouts, buffer and green zones, and main junctions.
Taking stock of the implementation of the Amaravati Beautification and Blue-Green Master Plan at a review meeting at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Thursday, Mr. Naidu told the officials concerned to take up avenue plantations along all roads in the emerging capital city and emphasised the need to develop parks and green spaces to international standards, with priority to raising medicinal plants in order to transform the capital region into a biodiversity hub containing native tree species.
Riverfront
He called for steps to make the Krishna riverfront a major tourist attraction and directed the officials of Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) to grow fruit and flowering plants on a large scale. The manner in which Bengaluru, and Singapore were made garden cities should be studied to replicate some of the models in Amaravati, he suggested.
Housing projects
Mr. Naidu said the officials should take the advice of yoga guru Baba Ramdev for cultivating medicinal plants, and to fetch native tree species from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. He said Amaravati should have high-quality, accessible housing projects on the lines of Singapore's Bidadari Housing Project (spread over about 250 acres, and home to 10,000 people) which was known for its pristine environs.
The Kondaveetivagu and Palavagu and their surrounding areas should also be shaped into major attractions. The ADC officials told the Chief Minister that the Shakhamuru Reservoir was being developed on 50 acres, and highlighted plans to develop six islands upstream of the Prakasam Barrage.
