Busting of narco-smuggling module run by UK handler leads to 85kg heroin revovery; operative held
Tarn Taran: A Pakistan-ISI-controlled narco-smuggling module was busted following the arrest of an operative Amarjot Singh alias Jota Sandhu, leading to the recovery of 85 kg of heroin, Tarn Taran senior superintendent of police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana said on Friday. Rana said that Jota was part of a cross-border drug smuggling module, which was being run by UK-based drug handler Lalli. Jota used his residence at Bhittewad village in Punjab's Amritsar as a major stash point for drug consignments received from cross-border drug smugglers via drones. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav posted on X: "In the biggest drug seizure of 2025, @TarnTaranPolice busts a cross-border, #ISI-controlled-#Pakistan based narco-smuggling module operated by #UK-based drug handler Lalli and arrests his #India-based operative, Amarjot Singh @ Jota Sandhu, resident of Vill. Bhittewad, Amritsar Rural and recovers 85 kg heroin ." The probe also revealed that Jota collected heroin consignments from various border points and gave these to local suppliers for distribution in different areas of Punjab. Rana said Jota was apprehended near Chabhal Road in Tarn Taran, and 5 kg of heroin was recovered from his scooter. The SSP further said that Jota revealed that he had hiden two consignments of 40 kg each at Rakh Sarai Amanat Khan and in a washing machine at his house in Bhittewad village. He said that efforts are being made to uncover the entire network of suppliers, dealers, buyers, and hawala handlers to ascertain the quantity of drugs received by the arrested accused so far. Punjab: 7kg heroin seized, two held in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur
A total of 6.887 kg heroin was seized, and two persons were arrested in three separate places in Punjab on Thursday, officials said. Tarn Taran police busted a trans-border narco network, arresting a drug smuggler Amarjot Singh alias Jota from Chabhal village and recovered 5kg heroin from his possession. Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said, 'Preliminary investigation reveals accused was in touch with foreign-based handlers and was part of an international drug syndicate.' 'An FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered at City Police Station, TarnTaran. Further investigation is underway to unearth his forward and backward linkages,' the DGP said. Ferozepur police seized a total of 1.887kg of heroin in two separate incidents on Thursday. Ferozepur senior superintendent of police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that in the first case, the crime investigation agency (CIA) staff team apprehended accused Sukhdev Singh alias Babbi during a routine patrol near Madhre village. The accused, a resident of Habib Wala village in Ferozepur district was found in possession of 1.446 kg of heroin. 'He will be produced in court soon for further legal action,' the SSP said. In another case, the BSF alerted the Sadar police station about a suspicious package near the Jagdish border outpost. Police seized the packet and recovered 441 grams of heroin. A case has been registered against unknown individuals under the NDPS Act, and a thorough investigation has been launched,' officials said.
