Give your old Kindle to Amazon and you'll get something much better for less
Amazon has just announced the launch of two new Kindle e-readers and is offering money off when you trade in what you already own. If your current Kindle is looking a little past its best, then now could be a very good time to switch to something different. Amazon has just confirmed the release of two new e-readers that both offer colour displays rather than the usual boring black and white e-ink screen. This duo of devices now joins the original Colorsoft Signature Edition Kindle, which launched last year and also offers that colourful screen upgrade. So what's new, how much do they cost and how do you get money off? The first of the updated range is simply called the Kindle Colorsoft. It arrives with 16GB of storage, fast page turns, an adjustable warm light, long battery life that can last for weeks, and full access to the Kindle bookstore. It's not quite as feature-packed at the Signature Edition which includes extra storage, auto light settings and wireless charging but it is slightly more affordable. The new standard Colorsoft Kindle costs £239.99 - that's compared to the Signature version which is priced at £269.99. Those buying this latest e-reader can also trade-in what they already own and get 20% off, plus there's free access to Kindle Unlimited for three months when popping the Colorsoft into online shopping baskets. So what else is new from Amazon? The online retailer is launching a new Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Kids, which is priced at £259 but comes with 12 months of Amazon Kids+, a kid-friendly cover, and a 2-year worry-free guarantee. For those not aware, Amazon Kids+ is a subscription service that includes thousands of books and audiobooks for young readers. It usually costs £4.99 per month, but those buying this latest Kindle get it for free. Other bonus extras on the Colorsoft Kids include that colourful display, a water-resistant design, and light for reading at night. Amazon is hoping that offering some colour will make younger bookworms want to read for longer. "On average, kids read over 45 minutes a day when they sit down with their Kindle, and in 2024, kids who read graphic novels and comics spent 46% more total reading time compared to the average Kindle Kids reader," Amazon explained. Both of these devices are now available to buy from Amazon and other UK retailers.

Amazon makes the Kindle Colorsoft cheaper and adds a Kids version
Amazon has launched two new Kindle models: a more affordable version of the Kindle Colorsoft and the first-ever Kindle made specifically for kids with a colour display. The new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft is available now for $249.99 in the US and £239.99 in the UK and includes three months of Kindle Unlimited. It offers everything you'd expect from a Kindle – but in colour. That means a sharp, high-contrast display for reading books, comics, and graphic novels, fast page turns, adjustable warm light, and battery life that lasts for weeks. It even lets you highlight text in multiple colours and browse your library by colourful book covers. If you're after a few more extras, the $289.99 / £269.99 Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition adds wireless charging, 32GB of storage, and an auto-adjusting front light. We're reviewed the Kindle Colorsoft, and were impressed with the excellent battery life, lightweight design, and muted colour screen, but slightly let down by the clunky software and high price – something the new model partly addresses. But the big news here is the new Kindle Colorsoft Kids. Priced at $269.99 in the US and £259.99 in the UK, it's the first Kindle for kids with a colour display, designed to make comics and graphic novels more engaging. Amazon says kids who read these kinds of books spend 46-percent more time reading on average than Kindle Kids users overall. The child-friendly model comes with a bright illustrated cover (in your choice of 'Fantasy River' or 'Starlight Reading'), a year's subscription to Amazon Kids+, and a two-year worry-free guarantee. That means if it breaks, Amazon will replace it. No questions asked. There are no ads, apps, games or messages on the device, just books. Kids can read Harry Potter, Big Nate, or The Treehouse series without distractions, and use tools like Vocabulary Builder, Word Wise, and OpenDyslexic font to help them along the way. Bluetooth is also built in for audiobook listening with headphones. Parents aren't left out either. The Amazon Parent Dashboard gives you full control over what your child sees, lets you monitor reading progress, and even set a bedtime for the device. As part of the package, Amazon Kids+ continues to expand. The service now includes thousands of books and audiobooks from series like Keeper of the Lost Cities, The Breakfast Club Adventures by Marcus Rashford, and The InvestiGators. Amazon says Kindle reading is up this year, with customers having read more than 129 billion pages so far – more than this time last year. So, if you've been holding off on buying a Kindle Colorsoft, now's a good time, and if $269.99 in the US and £259.99 in the UK still feels steep, it's worth waiting for Black Friday, when prices could drop closer to $220 / £200. Liked this? The Google Pixel 10 leak looks exactly the same as the Pixel 9, and I think that's great

Amazon announces two new Kindle Colorsoft models — here's how much they'll cost
Amazon just announced two new versions of the Kindle Colorsoft — a more affordable 16GB version at $249, and a Kids edition to bring that color e-ink display tech to a child-friendly device. The current Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition retains its $279 asking price and has features like auto-adjusting front light, wireless charging, and 32 GB storage. And just like Amazon's other Kids edition options, the younger Colorsoft comes bundled with a kid-friendly cover, a year of Amazon Kids+, parental controls and a two-year warranty. The aforementioned cover comes in two colors: Fantasy River or Starlight Reading. This reader will also have learning features such as the OpenDyslexic font and Bluetooth connectivity to listen to audiobooks with a pair of the best wireless headsets. Naturally, there will be parental controls via the Amazon Parent Dashboard. I reviewed the Kindle Colorsoft when it launched last year, and it has been my main Kindle ever since. Despite being a fan of this device, it has been difficult to recommend because of its steep asking price. While $249 is still expensive compared to a $159 Kindle Paperwhite or an even cheaper $109 base Kindle, the $30 discounted price is at least more palatable. The Kindle Colorsoft Kids announcement isn't exactly surprising, but it's a nice option for parents who want to get their kids a Colorsoft. The $269 asking price is a bit steep, but you at least get a year of Amazon Kids+. That service offers a range of age-appropriate content like books, movies, educational apps and games, which could be well worth it for parents. The bundled cover is also a great bonus—and a necessary accessory for keeping the tablet safe. The 16GB Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Colorsoft Kids are available now on Amazon. If their respective prices are a tad steep, I'm sure we'll see price reductions during the next Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday. As always, we'll keep you posted! Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids tablet (newest gen), ages 3–7 £149.99 £59.99 Amazon Shop Product Description The parental controls are designed for ease, allowing adults to set screen time limits, review activity, and prioritise educational content through the Amazon Parent Dashboard. Those comparing alternatives might also look at the HONOR Pad X8a 11 Inch Kids Tablet, priced at £149.99 at Argos and rated 4.9 stars. Elsewhere, the ACER 10.1" Kids Tablet is currently £99 at Currys and has a 4.2-star rating from 116 reviews. But if it's the Fire HD 8 Kids tablet that's of interest, it continues to be praised for its child-focused features and ease of use. It currently holds a 4.4-star rating from 239 reviews and is available in a range of bright colours with a sturdy, child-safe case. It has been bought over 4,000 times in the last month, highlighting its popularity. One pleased parent commented: 'For the price, I wasn't expecting as much as the more expensive Apple iPads we have, but equally I didn't want my son messing about with those. "The screen brightness and clarity is very good, and there are no complaints there... The case is sturdy and has taken the odd battering from my youngest child... I will consider buying one for my youngest child when they are a bit older.' Another wrote: 'The tablet battery life is really good and the case is super strong... We got this for trips on planes and holidays and it fits really nicely in a bag even though the case is really chunky and protective.." They did warn, however: "Some of the games do require Wi-Fi... so we just added a couple of videos on there.' Tech deal of the week It's that time of year where we are looking for ways to keep cool amidst the balmy, summer days. One item shoppers are raving over is this DDKJ Neck Fan that can be used to keep cool when commuting, at work or in the home. Even better, it costs just £26.98 on Amazon. With certain parts of the UK set to reach sweltering 35C, it's handy that this neck fan comes with a rose gold cooling plate around the neck curve that is said to "feel like an ice cube", dropping temperatures to just 15C in as little as one second. Boasting an ergonomic, wearable design, it features two bladeless fans that are safe to wear, with five different speed settings that provide a cooling effect on the head, neck and sides. It's also quite smart thanks to a LED digital display that makes the operation easy and convenient, while the built-in 5500mAh large capacity rechargeable battery features a fast charging chip that ensures a full charge within just 2.5-3hrs. Numerous shoppers who have bagged the neck fan say it is a "godsend" and a "lifesaver" for the heatwave, with one writing: "This is easy to wear when sitting or walking generally. Works fast and never needed it on anything but the lowest setting! At my time of life it is a lifesaver, especially through the heatwave we experienced." Keep cool amidst the rising temperatures with the DDKJ Neck Fan with Cooling Plate on Amazon for £26.98 And another reviewer was disappointed with the battery, saying: 'We ordered for the kids and it comes with 12-month subscription to kids package... my only negative is the battery life is not as long as expected and it does run a little slow after a while.' But a different five-star reviewer wrote: 'Got this as a birthday present for my son... Absolutely loving it, as well as the ease of having my phone to myself. I think this was an absolute good buy.' Despite a few drawbacks, the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids tablet remains one of the most comprehensive child-friendly devices currently on the market, especially when factoring in the built-in subscription, protective design, and generous warranty.
