New 75kWp solar plant to power Akshaya Patra's kitchen in city
A 75 kWh rooftop solar power plant has been installed by Maanaveeya Development & Finance Private Limited at The Akshaya Patra Foundation's Gambeeram kitchen, at a cost of ₹52.82 lakhs. The initiative is part of Maanaveeya's continued commitment to support impactful social development projects across India.
The solar plant, inaugurated on Monday, is expected to generate 90,000 units of clean energy annually, resulting in significant savings that will directly enable Akshaya Patra to serve an additional 528 nutritious mid-day meals every year to school children. Over a period of three years, this initiative will help support over 1,500 additional meals, contributing both to environmental conservation and child nourishment.
MD of Maanaveeya Gouri Sankar said that the group was committed to make an impact on the lives of children from economically disadvantaged communities by providing midday meals and education. He said: 'The company had partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation over the past five years through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Our group has funded several key projects, including the installation of 180 kWp rooftop solar power systems across The Akshaya Patra Foundation's kitchens in Hyderabad (Kandi and Narsingi kitchen) and Visakhapatnam (Gambeeram Kitchen). This green energy initiative saves Akshaya Patra approximately ₹16.62 lakhs annually in electricity costs, freeing up resources to feed 1,100 children yearly. It also significantly reduces environmental impact by cutting carbon emissions by around 100 tons annually.'
