Iowa star invited to USA Basketball AmeriCup team trials
After an impressive junior season with the Iowa women's basketball program, forward Hannah Stuelke has been selected to participate in the 2025 USA Basketball Women's Americup Team trials, which begin June 17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She will be joined by 20 other players from across the country who were also selected by the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee. In addition to Stuelke, three Big Ten players, including Ohio State's Jaloni Cambridge, USC's Kennedy Smith, and Oregon's Grace VanSlooten, are among the 20 others invited. 'About half of these young women have already claimed a gold medal with USA Basketball, so they bring great international experience with them. They are sure to be fierce competitors at trials. We look forward to choosing the group who will best represent the U.S. at the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup.' Stuelke is one of seven participants making their USA Basketball debuts. Kara Lawson (Duke) will serve as head coach, with assistant coaches DeLisha Milton-Jones (Old Dominion University) and Jennie Baranczyk (Oklahoma). At trials, court coaches Jim Flanery (Creighton University) and Robyn Fralick (Michigan State) will assist. Advertisement Following the selection of the 2025 USA Women's AmeriCup Team and a training camp in Colorado Springs, the United States will travel to Santiago, Chile, for the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, set for June 28-July 6. The 2025 USA Women's AmeriCup Team will open Group B with host nation Chile, followed by Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. The winner of the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup will earn a berth to the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup, set to be held in Berlin next summer. Since the event's inception in 1993, the United States has captured four AmeriCup gold medals, including titles in 2019 and 2021. However, the Sky made a move in practice on Thursday to get Reese reps at the five with Cardoso watching from the sidelines. Cardoso did not participate in the portion of practice that was open to the media. He talked about Cardoso and how the team plans to move on without her for a portion of the season. "I think, from our standpoint and from Kamilla's standpoint, she's doing everything that she can do to be present and here for us," Marsh said. "When she goes off, then she'll handle her responsibilities, then she'll be back with us. We'll hold it down as best we can until she gets back." Cardoso was a member of the All-Rookie team last season after being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Fever have been shorthanded in backcourt. Here's why their frontcourt depth will be tested later this month
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever will be lacking some post depth later this month as backup center Damiris Dantas will miss four games to play for the Brazil in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup tournament. The Fever expect Dantas to miss four games between June 25-July 8 (vs. Los Angeles, June 26; at Dallas, June 27; vs. Las Vegas, July 3; vs. Los Angeles, July 5). The AmeriCup will be in Santiago, Chile, from June 28-July 6. Dantas will miss Brazil's training camp, which starts on June 15 in Sao Paulo, because of her obligations to the Fever. She will meet the team in Chile a few days before the tournament, leaving the Fever after a three-game West Coast trip finishes in Seattle on June 24. The AmeriCup is typically played every other year, dating back to 1991. Brazil has been the most successful team in the tournament's history with six gold medals. Cardoso was the MVP of the tournament in 2023, while Dantas was named to the All-Tournament Team. On the Fever, Dantas has been the main backup for starting center Aliyah Boston this season. She is averaging 4.0 points and 2.9 rebounds in 11 minutes per game this season. In her absence, the Fever's frontcourt depth will consist of Bri Turner and rookie Makayla Timpson.
