Judge Blocks Trump Administration Tactics in L.A. Immigration Raids
A federal judge blocked the Trump administration on Friday from making indiscriminate immigration arrests in the Los Angeles area and denying detainees the right to consult with a lawyer, dealing a temporary blow to the president's high-profile crackdown on immigration. The judge, in California, granted two temporary restraining orders in response to a lawsuit filed last week by immigrant advocacy groups. A fuller hearing is expected in the coming weeks, but the initial rulings represent a sharp rebuke of the tactics that federal agents have employed in and around Los Angeles during raids, which have entered their second month. In the orders, the judge, Maame E. Frimpong of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, directed agents to stop racial profiling in the course of seeking out immigrants, and mandated that the federal government, which has deployed hundreds of agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other agencies in Los Angeles County, ensure detainees have access to legal counsel. 'What the federal government would have this Court believe — in the face of a mountain of evidence presented in this case — is that none of this is actually happening,' the judge wrote. She said that 'roving patrols' without reasonable suspicion violated the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution and that denying access to lawyers violated the Fifth Amendment. The ruling remains in place for 10 days. A coalition of civil-rights group, led by the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California and the nonprofit Public Counsel, is seeking a more durable order, known as a preliminary injunction. 'The White Lotus' star was seen wearing a prominent figure, Rosa Parks 's face, on the lingerie. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now What did Lisa wear? On the night of the MET Gala, Lisa wore a netted fabric suit attached with pearls along with a pearl necklace and a gold chain as a waistband. While the faces were stitched along with the fabric, the K-pop singer has been receiving hate for wearing underpants with notable faces, especially Rosa Parks. Not the first time being called out for derogatory gestures? One user pointed out, 'despite saying the n-word multiple times and never apologizing, Lisa doesn't seem to care as she wears underwear with images of ROSA PARKS, a civil rights icon who fought against racial injustice.' This is certainly not the first time that Lisa or her band has been called out. Previously, the clips of K-pop idols using racial slurs and derogatory terms for people of colour in front of the audience went viral. Neither of the BLACKPINK members reacted to the clips, nor did they apologise. Other comments on social media Another user expressed, 'I was wondering why Rosa Parks was trending got scared.... I know Lisa does not have Rosa Parks all over her underwear right now. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA????? Mind you not only is it highly distasteful how is this on theme?' A third user shared, 'Lisa is just so wildly ignorant it's unreal. Like… why is Rosa Parks' face embroidered on her sleepwear? Her underwear?? What even is that?' Who was Rosa Parks? Rosa Parks was an American Civil Rights Activist who once refused to give up her seat on the bus. Popularly known as the 'Mother of the Civil Rights Movement,' Parks' refusal created a larger impact. The act led to mass protests against racial discrimination in public transportation.
