To celebrate International Mother's Day, Juniors Club Bahrain is inviting all moms to a delightful event that combines educa - tion, pampering, and the chance to build lasting connections. The event, scheduled for tomorrow, at 6 p.m. at Ramee Grand Hotel-Seef, will feature a skincare and dermatology workshop presented by the American Mission Hospital, engaging games and a raffle draw, and a delicious buffet dinner. Speaking about the event Founder of Juniors Club Bahrain, Nusrat Khan, said 'We warmly welcome women from all backgrounds to join for an evening that promises not just fun, but also friendship and cultural exchange.' The club, which opened its doors in 2022, aims to empower women.

Health Teams Hit Bahrain's biggest Mall
TDT | Manama Visitors to Avenues Mall recently had the chance to get their blood pressure checked on the spot, thanks to a joint hypertension awareness campaign by American Mission Hospital and RCSI Medical University of Bahrain. The campaign transformed a retail space into a health checkpoint, where doctors, nurses, and student volunteers offered free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI, along with lifestyle-based medical advice. The initiative aimed to alert residents to the risks of high blood pressure, a condition often without symptoms but potentially life-threatening if left unchecked. Bringing care closer The event, held ahead of World Hypertension Day, ran through May 24th and focused on reaching people in everyday settings. 'By engaging with the public and providing basic screenings and guidance for hypertension, which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, we strive to make a tangible difference,' said H.E. Dr Jameela AlSalman, Director of Quality and Infection Disease at American Mission Hospital and a Member of the Shura Council. Alongside doctors and nurses, medical and nursing students from RCSI Bahrain played an active role in welcoming visitors and conducting screenings, offering both service and support under academic supervision. Joint mission for health Peter Kennedy, Chief Operating Officer of American Mission Hospital, and Dr Eman Tawash, Deputy Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at RCSI Bahrain, were present at the launch. Professor Kathryn Strachan, Head of the Nursing School, highlighted the shared vision between the two institutions. 'By providing healthcare education, we aim to empower individuals to manage their health proactively and mitigate potential risks associated with hypertension.' Focus on prevention Experts warn that hypertension can go unnoticed for years. Although usually asymptomatic, it may cause headaches, dizziness, or blurred vision. Risk factors include poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, and genetic predisposition. Organisers say that regular screenings and early interventions are key to avoiding more serious complications down the line. The campaign underlined a simple message - good health can begin anywhere, even during a casual walk through a mall.

US Navy's Vice Admiral George Wikoff visits AMH
Vice Admiral George M. Wikoff of the US Naval Forces Central Command (Navcent), U.S. 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces, met with Dr George Cheriyan, the Corporate CEO of the American Mission Hospital, in A'Ali, yesterday. Dr Cheriyan gave him a tour of the facility, and Ms. Julia Tovey, the Group CEO of the American Mission Hospital, presented the Vice Admiral with a book, 'A Journey through the Decades', which she had written on the hospital's 120- year history. Other senior officers from the US Navy and the hospital leadership were also present in the meeting, where they discussed the legacy of the hospital and the long history of US –Bahrain relations in healthcare.

RCSI Medical University of Bahrain welcomes American Mission Hospital Board of Directors to campus
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain was honoured to host on campus a distinguished delegation of nine members from the American Mission Hospital (AMH) Board of Directors, led by Dan Thomas Walters, Chairman of the Board, alongside Dr George Cheriyan, Corporate Chief Executive Officer of AMH. The delegation was welcomed by Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, with discussions emphasising the longstanding and collaborative partnership with American Mission Hospital, notably the placements of medical and nursing students, our joint community engagement initiatives, as well as potential research collaborations with the Mayo Clinic, supported by the Hospital Board of Directors. A key highlight of the meeting was the recognition of the recent internship programme conducted at the King Hamad American Mission Hospital and the Government hospitals. Coordinated by Professor Ghufran Jassim, Head of Department and Associate Professor of Family Medicine, RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, the programme has garnered international recognition underpinned by benchmarking against the competencies of the Irish Medical Council and the requirements of the UK General Medical Council. The internship is increasingly attracting interest due to its rigorous standards. Expressing his appreciation, the Chairman of the Board of American Mission Hospital commended the University for its continued service to the healthcare sector in Bahrain and the wider region. Walters reaffirmed the Board's commitment to deepening the collaboration between the two non-for-profit institutions with a shared vision. Professor Otoom commented: 'Our collaboration with American Mission Hospital has grown from strength to strength and we are delighted to welcome and receive the support of the Hospital Board of Directors. We look forward to further strengthening our joint initiatives in education, research and community service to better serve the Kingdom.' The visit featured a presentation by Gary Brady, Head of Human Resources, who provided an overview of the university's development and future strategic plans, followed by an update presented from Fadi Ghosn, Head of Recognition, Careers and Alumni, who outlined the University's growing collaboration with leading universities and hospitals across the United States, alongside the notable success of its medical graduates in securing competitive residency placements at renowned American institutions.

AMH hosts Mindful Summit 2025
The American Mission Hospital (AMH) hosted the Mindful Summit 2025, a oneday symposium dedicated to the science and clinical practice of mental health, on Saturday, April 26 in their hospital auditorium in A'Ali. Opening the event, Dr. George Cheriyan the Corporate CEO, highlighted the urgent need for mental health initiatives across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, noting that approximately 15% of the population experiences mental health issues annually. 'It is important that governments focus on improving the mental wellbeing of citizens, thereby also reducing the economic and social costs to individuals and organizations,' he said. The symposium brought together around 150 participants, including doctors, nurses, students, professors, and mental health practitioners from schools and universities across Bahrain. A series of expert-led sessions covered a broad range of topics, from the genetic underpinnings of mental health conditions to neuromodulation techniques and strategies for suicide prevention. One of the highlights of the event was a presentation by Dr. John Stapert, a Clinical Psychologist from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, who discussed the significant impact of the female reproductive system on mental health. His talk explored how stages such as menarche, hormonal cycles, childbirth, nursing, and perimenopause influence clinical treatment decisions. Other notable speakers included Dr. Charlotte Awad Kamel, Consultant Psychiatrist and Professor at RCSI Bahrain; Dr. Huda Moosa Omran, Molecular Genetics Specialist at Al Aljenan Medical Center and former lecturer at Arabian Gulf University; and Dr. Frans J. Cronje, Specialist in Aviation and Aerospace Medicine at King Hamad American Mission Hospital. During the closing session, AMH's Chief of Medical Staff, Dr. Deepak Abraham, expressed his appreciation for the symposium's organizing committee, led by Dr. Feba Paul and her colleague Dr. Vivek Mathew, both members of AMH's Mental Health Department and Child Development Unit. The Mindful Summit 2025 marks yet another important step in AMH's ongoing efforts to promote mental health awareness and education in Bahrain and the wider region.
