RCSI Medical University of Bahrain welcomes American Mission Hospital Board of Directors to campus
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain was honoured to host on campus a distinguished delegation of nine members from the American Mission Hospital (AMH) Board of Directors, led by Dan Thomas Walters, Chairman of the Board, alongside Dr George Cheriyan, Corporate Chief Executive Officer of AMH.
The delegation was welcomed by Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, with discussions emphasising the longstanding and collaborative partnership with American Mission Hospital, notably the placements of medical and nursing students, our joint community engagement initiatives, as well as potential research collaborations with the Mayo Clinic, supported by the Hospital Board of Directors.
A key highlight of the meeting was the recognition of the recent internship programme conducted at the King Hamad American Mission Hospital and the Government hospitals. Coordinated by Professor Ghufran Jassim, Head of Department and Associate Professor of Family Medicine, RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, the programme has garnered international recognition underpinned by benchmarking against the competencies of the Irish Medical Council and the requirements of the UK General Medical Council. The internship is increasingly attracting interest due to its rigorous standards.
Expressing his appreciation, the Chairman of the Board of American Mission Hospital commended the University for its continued service to the healthcare sector in Bahrain and the wider region. Walters reaffirmed the Board's commitment to deepening the collaboration between the two non-for-profit institutions with a shared vision.
Professor Otoom commented: 'Our collaboration with American Mission Hospital has grown from strength to strength and we are delighted to welcome and receive the support of the Hospital Board of Directors. We look forward to further strengthening our joint initiatives in education, research and community service to better serve the Kingdom.'
The visit featured a presentation by Gary Brady, Head of Human Resources, who provided an overview of the university's development and future strategic plans, followed by an update presented from Fadi Ghosn, Head of Recognition, Careers and Alumni, who outlined the University's growing collaboration with leading universities and hospitals across the United States, alongside the notable success of its medical graduates in securing competitive residency placements at renowned American institutions.

Half of Elderly Patients Prescribed Risky Medications, Study Finds
TDT | Manama Professor Tom Fahey, a leading expert in general practice and epidemiology, presented critical findings on the safety and appropriateness of medication use in elderly populations during the Bahrain International Conference on Family Medicine and Primary Healthcare, held at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain.
