Selangor to distribute livestock worth RM6 mil for Aidiladha under state contribution programme
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government has allocated RM6 million to provide 700 cows and 1,000 goats for sacrificial rites (ibadah korban) to mosques and suraus throughout the state in conjunction with the upcoming Aidiladha celebration next month. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the livestock will be distributed to eligible recipients, including senior state government officials, mosques, and local community groups. "The Selangor State Sacrificial Contribution Programme (PSKNS) is a state government initiative managed by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), now in its seventh consecutive year. "It is funded through the Selangor State-Owned Companies, Statutory Bodies and Government Agencies Contribution Trust Fund (TASASBA)," he said. "PKPS, as the implementing agency, will oversee all procurement, administrative, and financial aspects of the programme under the close supervision of the PSKNS Steering Committee, chaired by Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco, Datuk Izham Hashim," he added. Amiruddin's remarks were delivered by the Selangor State Secretary, Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, during the Launch and Voucher Handover Ceremony of the PSKNS held at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, yesterday. Meanwhile, the PSKNS organising body was told to ensure that the cows and goats donated meet the proper religious criteria for a valid sacrificial offering. Amiruddin stated that each animal donated must comply with the conditions stipulated under Islamic law, including being free from defects, healthy, and having reached the appropriate age of maturity. "We want to avoid last-minute issues, such as the animals failing to meet the necessary requirements, which would force the organisers to return the livestock to the supplier. "I urge all parties, especially mosque and surau committees, to carry out early inspections to ensure that all aspects of the sacrificial process proceed smoothly," he added. –Bernama

PTPTN disburses RM193,000 in takaful benefits to families of FRU tragedy victims
by SUFEA SALEHUDDIN THE National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) has provided RM193,000 in total Simpan SSPN takaful benefits and death compensation to the families of two Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who died in a recent accident in Perak. The contribution was made under the agency's Ziarah Kasih PTPTN corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, which also saw a RM15,000 cash donation distributed to 15 children of the deceased, with each receiving RM1,000 through a Simpan SSPN Prime account. The main recipients of the protection benefits were the next-of-kin of Sergeant Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim and Corporal Amiruddin Zabri. Mohd Roslan, 46, had opened a Simpan SSPN Prime account on May 7, 2025, making him eligible for RM1,000 in takaful coverage and RM3,000 in death benefit payout. In addition, he had subscribed to three Simpan SSPN Plus accounts under the Intan package for his children in 2019, entitling his beneficiaries to RM180,000 in accident death coverage and RM9,000 in funeral aid. Combined, the family of Mohd Roslan received RM193,000 in total from both Simpan SSPN Prime and Simpan SSPN Plus. PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim and other PTPTN officials visited five homes of the FRU accident victims in Perak recently. 'These contributions, though unable to replace the loss of a loved one, are hoped to ease the burden on their families and ensure the education of their children is secured,' she said in a statement. She added that PTPTN remains committed to safeguarding access to education through savings plans like Simpan SSPN, which offers tax reliefs of up to RM8,000 annually, free matching grants of up to RM10,000, competitive dividends, Shariah-compliance and full government guarantees. Nine FRU personnel were killed and nine others injured when the truck they were in collided with a gravel-laden lorry on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, while returning to their base in Sungai Senam, Teluk Intan, on the morning of May 13, 2025.

Wife of fallen FRU officer says she forgives lorry driver
GOPENG: The wife of the late Kpl Amiruddin Zabri, one of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who perished in an accident near Teluk Intan earlier this week, does not bear any grudges against the lorry driver involved in the incident. Norazian Mohd Joned, 38, said she does not blame the driver, believing that the incident was fated. "I forgive the lorry driver, as the incident might be 'asbab' (fated). "Maybe it was just the way it was meant to happen. It was merely the cause for his passing," said Norazian, with tears streaming down her cheeks. She said this during the visit by National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chief operating officer Mastura Mohd Khalid as part of their Ziarah Kasih programme held at her home here on Saturday (May 18). During the 8.50am incident on May 13, a gravel-laden lorry had crashed into an FRU truck on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, which was on its way back to base in Sungai Senam in Ipoh. Kpl Amiruddin was among nine FRU members who were killed in the accident, while nine others were injured. Norazian, who works as an administrative assistant at the Kampar police station, said Kpl Amiruddin had once spoken about the honour of dying in service. "He once spoke about a case involving firemen who drowned while trying to save others. "He said the firemen died honourably and the entire country had prayed for them. Maybe he had a similar wish in his heart," she said, adding that it still felt surreal with her husband being no longer around. "There was also a case recently where a man died in front of a mosque right after Friday prayers and my husband said if God has determined your time, not even a minute will be delayed. "Everything else is just the means. Maybe this lorry was just the means for the nine of them to go, it was already fated," she added. Mastura said that the late Kpl Amiruddin was a Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) Prime depositor, having opened an account on May 7 this year. "He had sufficient savings to qualify for takaful benefits. "The family will receive RM1,000 in takaful protection and RM3,000 in death benefit, and in total RM4,000," she said. "Although no amount of money could replace a lost loved one, we hope this contribution and insurance benefit will help lessen the family's financial burden and support their children's educational future," she added.

Recycling project expands to Subang Jaya, Sepang

KDEB Waste Management has teamed up with a food-and-beverage manufacturer for the Selangor Recycling (SelKitar) Programme, launched at Shah Alam Convention Centre. The programme is expected to begin next month in several areas under Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang), covering 17,000 households. It is an extension of the Door-to-Door Collection and Recycling Programme introduced by Nestle in 2020, as part of its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy, in which the company collaborates with local councils such as Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and waste management companies. So far, the project, which was recently extended to Penang, had reached 200,000 households in Peninsular Malaysia and has prevented 33,000 tonnes of waste, including 20,000 tonnes of plastic, from going into landfills or the ocean, Nestle Malaysia chief executive officer Juan Aranols said. State public health and environment committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said Selangor, the most developed and populous state in the country, generated more than 7,000 tonnes of domestic waste daily. 'Much of the waste still ends up in landfills. This is not a trajectory we can afford. 'Our landfill capacity is not infinite. Recognising this, the state government has made sustainable waste management a cornerstone of our environmental strategy by prioritising separation at source, advancing circular economy practices and strengthening the role of local authorities in driving long-term changes. 'Through First Selangor Plan (RS-1), we are transitioning from a 'collect-and-dump' model to one focusing on recycling, based in resource efficiency, circularity and citizen responsibility.' She said waste must not be seen as something to be disposed but to be managed, with systems that restore value to used materials. According to Jamaliah, under the SelKitar programme, two additional lorries would be mobilised in Subang Jaya and Sepang, to recover recyclables six days a week. 'This phase serves as an important stepping stone as we scale up recycling efforts across all 12 local councils. 'It lays the foundation for a more comprehensive and coordinated approach, positioning the state to significantly improve its recycling rate and move closer to our long-term sustainability goals,' said Jamaliah. KDEB Waste Management managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said the SelKitar programme marked a strategic shift in how waste was managed, especially plastic and packaging. 'It focuses not just on disposal but on recovery, recycling and rethinking our consumption patterns. 'Through this programme, we aim to create a sustainable loop that engages producers, consumers and waste managers in a meaningful way,' said Ramli. Also present at the launch were Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim.
