Couple held for killing e-rickshaw driver over loan dispute
Bijnor: A couple was arrested on Sunday for killing a 70-year-old e-rickshaw driver in Amroha's Hiranwala locality after a dispute over a Rs 25,000 loan. SP Amit Kumar Anand said the accused — Shamsher Khan and his wife Shazma — had borrowed the amount from the victim Hanif alias Elaichi four months ago by mortgaging a motorcycle and a mobile phone. On the night of April 27, the couple visited Hanif's house. When he allegedly refused to waive the interest and made an obscene demand in exchange for returning their belongings, Shamsher strangled him using clothes from the bed. They tied up the body, hid it inside the bed box, and fled with the bike and phone. On April 28, the couple sold the mobile phone to a scrap dealer near Rahra Adda for Rs 4,000. CCTV footage from the locality helped police identify and arrest the accused, who are now in judicial custody.
