Man accused in Amite homicide investigation was wearing ‘military-style attire' when arrested in California: TPSO
TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Deputies with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office shared additional information about the arrest of a man in connection with the death of an Amite-area couple. On Thursday, April 3, TPSO detectives launched an investigation after 66-year-old Priscilla Brocato was found dead inside a home on Eastwood Drive during a welfare check. TPSO officials said her husband, 75-year-old Marc Brocato, was later found dead on the property after being sought as a possible victim. Two killed in Sunday New Orleans shootings TPSO officials said 34-year-old Joshua Brocato, identified by deputies as the couple's son, was initially being sought as a person of interest, but a warrant was later issued for his arrest on two counts of first-degree murder after the couple's autopsy. On Friday, April 4, the TPSO reported that Joshua Brocato was taken into custody in Los Angeles County, California, after his van had been tracked to Fairfax Avenue. Metairie man found guilty of murder by ‘brutal' beating
JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Metairie man was found guilty of murder on Wednesday night after he reportedly 'brutally' beat a man to death back in May of 2024. According to the Office of District Attorney Paul Connick Jr., 62-year-old Winston Bartholomew suspected 62-year-old Gary Olver of spreading salacious rumors about his girlfriend. Amite-area couple murdered, son accused, arrested On May 14, 2024, Bartholomew and his girlfriend were reportedly driving past Olver's home, a second-floor apartment above a tavern, located in the 2700 block of Mississippi Street, and decided to stop and speak to him. Inside, investigators say Olver allegedly brushed against the woman, prompting Bartholomew to begin attacking him. A nearby resident reported hearing the incident along with a woman yelling 'stop it, stop it. You're going to kill him.' By the time the beating had ended, the woman had reportedly left the apartment. Bartholomew then went downstairs to the tavern and ordered a beer. In the end, Olver suffered a fatal brain injury, multiple broken ribs on both sides of his body and a laceration to the back of his head. He died two weeks later on May 28, after his family took him off of life support. Bartholomew was arrested on May 31 after being identified as the suspect. NOPD, federal agents make arrest, seize guns, drugs
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department, along with the help of federal agents, arrested a man on Wednesday following a drug and gun bust. According to the NOPD, Special Operations officers, ATF agents and Homeland Security agents searched a location at Winners Circle in New Orleans East around 3 p.m. on April 2. Amite-area couple murdered, son accused, arrested On scene, they reportedly recovered at least three firearms, one of which was stolen, ammunition, 248 tapentadol tablets and 349.7 grams of marijuana. 29-year-old Alvin Dwayne Gentry was also arrested as a result of the investigation. LULING, La. (WGNO) — A Luling man is in police custody on sex crimes allegations following an investigation by the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations. Agents reported receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerting them of the alleged actions of 58-year-old Dirk Paul Webre. Fear from flyers in the Gentilly area
TREME, La. (WGNO) — Recently, flyers have been placed on cars warning people of targeted attacks on women in the two block radius of the Treme One Stop on North Villere Street and Esplanade Avenue. On the sheet, it states that two men have showed up in the past several weeks harassing women, following them and even grabbing them. Some people who walk this street regularly say it's shocking to read this message. I don't walk at night, but other people walk coming from work and stuff. This is real scary,' resident Cassandra Taylor said. Some say this neighborhood is usually pretty quiet, and hearing of attacks like this happening around here is unusual. 'I think there are things that happen all over the city. I think it is surprising cause this is a very tight-knit neighborhood too, and we all look out for each other. Yeah, it's a little surprising,' resident Vivian Hava said.
