Ajit Pawar launches Pune city traffic app
Pune, June 14 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and guardian minister of Pune district Ajit Pawar on Saturday launched an app developed by the Pune city Police Commissionerate for a real time two-way communication between the citizens on the move and the traffic police to get immediate information about the traffic situation to prevent snarls and enhance ease of driving. The PTP TRAFFIC COP APP has been developed based on the concept of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. Additional Commissioner of Police of Eastern Regional Division of Pune city Manoj Patil presented information about this app through a video. The inaugural event was organized at Vidhan Bhavan which was attended by divisional commissioner Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar, police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, his counterpart in Pimpri Chinchwad Vinay Kumar Choubey, special inspector general of police of Kolhapur range Sunil Phulari, Pune Municipal Corporation commissioner Navalkishore Ram, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shekhar Singh and others. Among the many urban problems in Pune, the city people mainly face traffic jams and accidents caused by it. Pollution caused by traffic has become yet another big problem. One of the main reasons is the lack of effective action against drivers who violate traffic rules. In this app, citizens can upload photos of drivers who commit serious traffic violations such as parking vehicles on sidewalks, driving on the footpaths, violating heavy vehicle restrictions, using mobile phones while driving, driving a triple seat vehicle, using black films, using fancy number plates and driving in the opposite direction from no entry passages. Police ban heavy vehicles at Pune's Gangadham Chowk from 6am-11pm after accident death
1 2 3 Pune: Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Thursday said heavy vehicles would be banned between 6am and 11pm on a temporary basis and height barriers soon installed in the accident-prone Gangadham Chowk area. Kumar said this after reviewing the traffic situation at the Gangadham Chowk a day after a woman, Deepali Soni (29), riding pillion on a scooter died and her father-in-law, Jagdish Soni (61), was injured as a truck hit their two-wheeler at the busy junction on Gangadham-Shatrunjay road — a stretch banned for heavy vehicles. The truck, which was coming from Market Yard, was not supposed to move towards the Aai Mata temple as heavy vehicles are banned on Gangadham-Shatrunjay road. Besides banning movement of heavy vehicles on the Gangadham-Shatrunjay Mandir road, the police also announced similar restrictions on the Lullanagar-Gangadham Chowk-Bibvewadi Road between 6am and 11pm. Movement of heavy vehicles was also banned on the Seven Loves Chowk-Gangadham Chowk stretch. "We do not want any heavy vehicle to cross the Gangadham Chowk during these hours. A notification in this regard will be issued soon," Kumar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Aparat portabil de sudura cu laser, suporta sudarea sub apa Esto Cumpără acum Undo Residents of the Gangadham area said Wednesday's was not the first fatal accident at the busy crossing. Exactly a year ago, a woman (59) was killed and her daughter-in-law (37) was critically injured after a dumper truck had hit their scooter near Gangadham Chowk. Following this, police on June 22 last year introduced a ban on heavy vehicles on two roads leading to the Gangadham Chowk on Bibwewadi-Kondhwa Road from 7am to 10pm. The two roads begin from Shatrunjay Temple and Tilekarnagar Chowk and converge at Aai Mata Mandir road and further to Gangadham Chowk. Trucks, cement mixers, dumpers and all types of multi-axle commercial transport vehicles (barring emergency, essential services and public transport vehicles) were banned then on the stretch. The latest accident occurred as the truck driver violated the ban, police said. "We know that there are many construction activities in the area, and ready-mix cement trucks, dumper trucks and other heavy vehicles regularly use the Gangadham Chowk. These vehicles will also not be allowed to cross the Gangadham Chowk," said Kumar, who was accompanied by joint police commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma and additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil. "Moreover, there are vegetable shops and godowns at the Market Yard. Godown and shops operating without govt approvals and licences will be sealed. We will also consult the city fire brigade and ambulance association before installing the height barriers," the police commissioner said. "The area has a number of liquor shops and bars. We will serve notices under the Bombay Police Act to the ones close to schools. If they fail to provide satisfactory answers, their licences. People cannot consume alcohol near roads and cause nuisance to other road users," he said. Police will also focus on ways to better the traffic arrangements at the crossing. "Our team will undertake traffic improvement at the junction and prepare a plan to improve mobility and safety. We will remove all encroachments. The Aai Mata Mandir Road has a steep slope towards Gangadham Chowk. We will again discuss the issue with PMC and work on reducing the gradient. It will require engineering solutions. We will review the situation at the chowk after a week," he said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Heavy vehicles only at night; height barriers, shifting liquor shops to prevent mishaps: Police chief after accident at Gangadham chowk
A day after a woman was killed in an accident at Gangadham Chowk, Pune city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar visited the spot on Thursday and said corrective measures will be taken to prevent accidents there in future. While imposing restrictions on heavy vehicles during day time at Gangadham Chowk, Kumar said measures such as installing 'height barriers' and shifting the liquor shops in the area would be undertaken to control road accidents at the spot. Kumar said they were checking if height barriers would hamper the movement of fire brigade vehicles and ambulances and accordingly action will be taken. Restriction on heavy vehicles Pune traffic police has imposed a complete ban on all types of heavy vehicles on the stretch between Shatrunjay temple and Gangadham Chowk on the Katraj Kondhwa road. Also, heavy vehicles won't be allowed from Tilekar Chowk in Kondhwa to Gangadham Chowk throughout the day, stated a press release issued by DCP (traffic) Amol Zende on Thursday. There is a restriction on heavy vehicles on the road from Lulla Nagar to Gangadham Chowk, to Maharashtra Warehousing Corporation to Seven Loves chowk, from 6 am to 11 pm. However, the heavy vehicles can use this route during the night hours from 11 pm to 6 am. A 29-year-old woman Deepali Yuvraj Soni, riding pillion on a bike, was killed and her 61-year-old father-in-law Jagdish Pannalal Soni, who was riding the two-wheeler, was seriously injured after it was hit by a truck on the busy Gangadham Chowk on Wednesday morning. The accident was caught on CCTV cameras installed at the busy traffic junction. Police arrested the truck driver Shaukatli Papalal Halkundi of Bhavani Peth, as well as the truck owner Gokul Chandrakant Jawalkar of Dhankawadi. An FIR was lodged against them at the Market Yard police station under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 49, 281, 125 (b), 324(4), 3(5) and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Kumar, speaking to media persons, said movement of heavy vehicles in the area has led to accidents. Three fatal accidents have been reported at the spot in the last one year, he said. Gangadham Chowk is located near Market Yard, where many heavy vehicles carrying goods pass on a daily basis. 'We are working on a priority basis to bring traffic discipline to Gangadham Chowk. Heavy vehicles would be allowed to pass through this area only from 10 pm to 6 am. Action is being taken against the illegal godowns and unauthorised constructions in the area,' Kumar said. The police commissioner also said they have received complaints against liquor shops near the chowk. 'Steps would be taken to shift these liquor shops or cancel their licences,' he said. Kumar also talked about the need to redesign the entire Gangadham junction. He said the police are in talks with the PMC authorities regarding the engineering concerns in the area and taking the essential corrective measures to prevent road mishaps. In June last year, a pillion rider Damayanti Bhupendra Solanki (59) had died while her daughter-in-law Priyanka Rahul Solanki (33), who was riding the two-wheeler, was injured after being hit by a dumper truck on the road from Aai Mata temple to Gangadham Chowk. Local citizens had then staged a protest at Gangadham chowk demanding action against heavy vehicles.

Citizen forums seek safety audit of hoardings in PMC
Citizen forums across Pune have demanded a safety audit of all the hoardings in the city ahead of monsoon. On May 15, two hoardings collapsed near the Shell petrol pump in Bhukum, Mulshi due to strong winds, damaging several parked two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Citizen forums, including the Wagholi Housing Societies Association (WHSA), the NIBM Annexe residents' association, the Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Forum, the Kondhwa Citizens Forum, the Wanowrie Citizens Initiative, the Mundhwa Residents Welfare Forum, and the Kharad Residents Forum, have on Friday written to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) to order the Pune municipal commissioner to conduct an assessment and safety audit of the existing hoardings. The letters stated that over 1,500 hoardings are currently located across the city, many of which lack proper structural stability and adherence to safety norms. Weak foundations, substandard materials, and poor maintenance make these hoardings highly vulnerable during strong winds and heavy rains. Unaudited hoardings can pose a significant risk to public safety, especially during strong winds or storms. We urge immediate action to ensure the structural integrity of all hoardings in the mentioned areas. Public safety is paramount, and it is the PMC's responsibility to ensure that all structures, including hoardings, do not pose a risk to citizens,' said Jaymala Dhankikar, member, NIBM Annexe residents' forum. Amitesh Kumar, Pune police commissioner, said, 'The PMC and police administration have taken strict steps for ensuring the safety of hoardings. A structural audit of all big hoardings has been made mandatory before the monsoon. Orders are being issued to complete the audit by issuing a notice under section 149 of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (BPMC) Act.'

5 cops suspended after gangster Gaja Marne , during transit between jails
AN ASSISTANT Police Inspector (API) and four constables from Pune City Police were suspended from active duty by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar in connection to an incident which incarcerated gangster Gajanan alias Gaja Marne was served biryani during his transit from Pune's Yerawada Prison to Sangli prison in March earlier this year. The Pune police on Wednesday arrested an active member of the Gaja Marne gang in the case. Marne was arrested by Pune City police in connection to the February 19 attack on IT engineer and Murlidhar Mohol supporter Devendra Jog which took place at Shiv Jayanti procession at Bhelke Nagar in Kothrud. Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Marne and his gang in this case. On March 3, Marne was shifted from Yerawada Central Prison to Sangli Prison for security reasons. Recently, a video of Marne being served biryani during the transit to Sangli had surfaced. Probe has also revealed that some aides of Marne had at the time followed the police van in a luxury car. 'We have a very clear policy. Any gangster or criminal who tries to interfere with the law, we will take the strongest possible action against them. MCOCA had already been invoked against the said gangster. He had resorted to some actions. To that end, an officer of API rank and four constabulary staff have been suspended. Those who aid accused under MCOCA are being booked under MCOCA. Those who provided food and those who followed him in a car, have been booked under MCOCA. Those who try to glorify criminals, stringent action awaits them. This should also act as a message to other so-called gangsters and criminals on record.' said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the Pune City police arrested Balkrushna Laxman Mohite alias Pandya (40), an active member of Marne gang in connection to the incident during the transit. He has been booked under MCOCA and has been remanded to police custody till May 17. Gangster Gajanan Marne, who has close to 30 serious criminal cases registered against him, had hit headlines in February 2021 when a rally comprising dozens of luxury cars was taken out in his support on the Mumbai Expressway after he was released from Taloja prison. At the time, Marne was released from prison after the court had acquitted him and 13 aides over lack of evidence in the murder of Santosh Hiraman Gawade alias Pappu, a rival gang member. The number of arrests made by Pune police in connection to the controversial highway rally had crossed 100 at the time that included many of his gang members and supporters. Close to 30 high end cars that were part of the rally were also seized by Pune police. As the Maharashtra Police were criticised over the rally, multiple cases were slapped against Gajanan and his aides in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Raigad and Navi Mumbai jurisdiction. One offence was also registered against them for spreading social media posts glorifying the gangster, which were in circulation since his release from Taloja prison.
