Liverpool line up another new transfer to dismay Gary Neville and David Beckham

Liverpool are eyeing up Salford City teenager Will Wright, who has been hugely impressive at the League Two outfit, with David Beckham and Gary Neville potentially losing a future star Liverpool are looking to land the signing of Salford City teenager Will Wright, who has been hugely impressive after enjoying a swift rise at Moor Lane. ‌ The League Two outfit look to have unearthed a gem after seeing him excel with the club's youth ranks, which eventually saw him making four appearances for the first-term last season, one coming in the FA Cup loss at Manchester City. Salford are now co-owned by Gary Neville and David Beckham but the duo are set to lose their young star. ‌ Wright's potential departure will land Salford a six-figure sum, reports TalkSport, with a number of Premier League clubs also keeping tabs on the 17-year-old. Arsenal, Brentford, Leicester City and Burnley have monitored the player. ‌ Wright is now going into the second year of his scholarship with Salford after being spotted playing for local sides Euxton Villa and Fylde only two years ago, but he could be about to jump up the football league pyramid to join one of England's giants He won't go straight into the first-team at Anfield given their wealth of attacking talent, but the Reds would still be able to land a player who could go on to be a future success story. Salford have been stuck in the fourth tier since their promotion from the National League in 2019. Despite the fortunes invested by the Class of 92 they have only made the play-offs once with a number of managers coming and going during that period. ‌ The Ammies have previously seen some of their leading lights move on to bigger and better things. They signed Brandon Thomas-Asante when he was without a club and the frontman went on to sign for West Brom and now finds himself at Coventry. Vaclav Hladky left for Ipswich and is now on Burnley's books. As Wright continues to feature in pre-season for Salford he said: "For all of us it is a fantastic opportunity, not even playing games, but just to be training with them. Gaining the experience and taking things back to the academy and hopefully bring more people through." Liverpool meanwhile could take their summer spending beyond the £300million mark as they weigh up breaking the British-transfer record to land Alexander Isak from Newcastle. Already Arne Slot has signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Irish businessman Kelly teams up with Beckham and Neville in new Salford ownership group

DAVID BECKHAM AND Gary Neville are members of a new ownership group at English fourth-tier football club Salford, it was announced Thursday. The club announced the former Manchester United stars were part of a consortium which also includes Irish businessman, Declan Kelly, and Mervyn Davies, who was a banker before becoming a UK minister in the Labour government of Gordon Brown from 2009-10. Salford, in Greater Manchester, is walking distance from United's Old Trafford ground, with Beckham saying on Thursday on Instagram: 'Salford played such an important role in my life growing up… it's where I bought my first house and where me and Victoria (his pop star wife Victoria Adams) lived.' Advertisement The 50-year-old added: 'I'm so proud to be part of a new ownership group alongside gneville2 (Gary Neville) as we begin the next chapter of Salford's journey. 'Football is at the heart of this community and I can't wait to see what the future holds for the Ammies.' Neville — now a high-profile television football pundit, said earlier on Thursday: 'I am passionate about Salford City. This is a unique partnership with a diverse range of minds and expertise, held together by a love of football. 'Football will come first, however it's critical that we drive the club towards sustainability in the next four to five years. I can't wait for the next part of this journey.' Salford were once owned by a larger group of United stars from the celebrated 'Class of 92′ which, as well as including Beckham and Gary Neville, also featured Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt. Salford rose through the non-League ranks since their investment began in 2014 before entering League Two, the lowest tier of the senior English football pyramid that peaks with the Premier League. But the new ownership structure appears to reflect the need for additional finance at Salford, who finished eighth last season, just outside the play-off places, as they bid for promotion to League One. – © AFP 2025
