Man punches young woman ‘unconscious' at Perth rap concert

Man punches young woman 'unconscious' at Perth rap concert WARNING: CONFRONTING CONTENT Young rap fans have been left scared and in shock after a teenage boy allegedly attacked a woman during Central Cee's Perth concert at RAC Arena on Wednesday night. The British rapper, real name Oakley Neil Caesar-Su, took to the arena stage about 9pm to perform for thousands of fans of all ages for the last show on his Can't Rush Greatness world tour. With the 27-year-old drill star bringing his West London energy to a hyped crowd, things took a turn for the worse according to witnesses when the 17-year-old, in the seated section, allegedly turned around and started attacking a 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman enjoying the show. Witnesses alleged the boy started throwing punches about 9.40pm and continued for over two minutes. A video shared on TikTok captured part of the wild incident. Concertgoer Campbell Darby, who was sitting next to the woman, said he was left shaken up after witnessing the fight in front of him. 'They were right next to me, and I had to move out of the way, but the girl was knocked out, fully unconscious,' he said. 'I had to help the people next to me get out of the way so they didn't get hit.' Perth Police have since charged the Gosnells boy with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault. A WA Police spokeswoman said officers patrolling the venue were alerted to a physical altercation about 9.45pm. 'It will be alleged; a 17-year-old male assaulted a 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman,' she said. 'Both victims sustained bruising to the head and face. 'It will be further alleged; the juvenile resisted arrest and was verbally abusive towards officers.' Central Cee performing in Perth at RAC Arena on Wednesday night. Central Cee is a leading drill musician who frequently references gang culture and violence in his music. Mr Darby said he attended the concert aware that something like this might happen. 'I did not expect it to land on top of me,' he said. 'It completely turned my night around, and the people I was with were very shaken up after seeing that happen right in front of our eyes and seeing the poor girl unconscious on the floor.' Fellow Cee fan Don Salapang, 21, said she and the people she was with were all 'so scared and in shock'. 'I wouldn't say the fight completely ruined the experience, but it definitely brought down the mood significantly for everyone and some of us were torn, focusing on the aftermath of the fight and the actual concert,' she said. 'We felt bad going back to recording and acting like nothing happened. 'I don't think many people truly expect something as bad as that to happen at a concert, especially when there's young kids around too.' St John WA spokeswoman said paramedics were not called out to the scene. An RAC Arena spokesperson said patron and staff safety was staff's top priority. 'We are aware of the incident and are currently assisting WAPOL with their investigation into the matter.' The boy is due to face Perth Children's Court on July 29.

Two-time winner takes home prestigious steak sandwich prize

Carrington's Bar & Grill in Hamilton Hill has taken home the prize for best steak sandwich in Perth for the second year in a row, proving that a 'classic' take on the sandwich can be the best. After winning last year with their creamy, smokey TNT sandwich, the team returned in 2025 with bold new creation The Wild Thing, a tribute to the 1960s rock classic and a reinvention of the classic pub steak sandwich. Chef Jaspreet Singh said the 13-minute cook-off competition was full of pressure, especially since he wanted to win back-to-back. Your local paper, whenever you want it. Mr Singh described the steak sandwich as very innovative and stood out thanks to the mixture of flavours. 'We had two different types of bacon in the steak sandwich; one was beef bacon that you don't see very often in the steak sandwiches,' he said. 'Normally people use pork bacon, so I use beef bacon, which is like cured beef brisket that was thinly sliced, cured with black cracked pepper; it is a really good texture, 'And then you have second bacon, candy bacon, which is marinated in honey and brown sugar and honey whiskey. So it'll give you sweetness.' Having sold more than 600 of the steak sandwiches already, Mr Singh said customer feedback was 'out of this world'. 'We really work hard for the steak sandwiches; it shows the passion and the commitment we have for the industry.' he said. AHA (WA) CEO and chief steak sandwich judge Bradley Woods said the standard of all the finalists was nothing short of exceptional. 'These talented chefs have elevated the humble steak sandwich to new heights, proving it remains a firm favourite on pub menus and a true showcase of culinary creativity,' he said. 'The competition celebrates great food as well as shining a spotlight on the passion, innovation and skill within WA's hospitality sector, supporting venues, engaging customers and driving foot traffic.' The Perth judging panel consisted of Bradley Woods (AHA CEO) Lachie Sheridan (Perth Dude Food), Melissa Forbes (Tourism WA) and Danny Connolly (Lion). 'This year's sandwich is completely different than the TNT,' Mr Singh said. 'We wanted to do something classic this year.' With two titles under their belt, the Carrington Bar & Grill team already have their eyes set on a three-peat. 'It's a real booster for me and my team ... we're just going to have to do better next year.' he said. The Australian Hotels Association WA and Little Creatures WA's Best Steak Sandwich competition was at the Crown Towers ballroom as part of the 2025 AHA hospitality expedition and has been running for 18 years.

Bobby's Busselton, Eaton Tavern, Last Slice Dalyellup, Onya Pub, Rose Hotel, Settlers Tavern, The Rec Waroona Hotel and Treendale Farm Hotel are part of 19 venues this year competing for a spot in the top four regional finalists. Treendale Farm Hotel will be looking to defend its title after taking out the regional prize last year. Chef Gayan Dilruk Geeeganage from Treendale Farm Hotel competing at the 2024 cook off. AHA WA chief executive Bradley Woods said the competition had become a much-loved institution on WA's hospitality calendar and showcased the passion, creativity and skill of WA chefs. 'The WA's Best Steak Sandwich competition captures the heart of WA's vibrant hospitality scene,' he said. 'It's an opportunity for venues to showcase their culinary flair, engage with their communities and be recognised for producing one of WA's most iconic and loved dishes.' The top four metropolitan and regional finalists will be determined by public votes and a visit from a mystery judge before going head-to-head in a live cook-off at the 2025 AHA Hospitality Expo at Crown Perth on June 24 and 25. 'This year's competition promises to be a thrilling one and we encourage everyone to get behind their favourite venue and help them secure a place in the live cook-offs,' Mr Woods said. The public is encouraged to cast their votes on the AHA website before May 26. Finalists will be notified of the results on May 28.
