Water Ministry: Season average rainfall stands at 44%
Ammon News - The average rainfall for the season stood at 44% as of Sunday morning, representing approximately 57% of last year's rainfall. Water and Irrigation Ministry's Spokesperson Omar Salameh, told "Ammon News Agency" that dam storage as of Sunday morning was just 31%, with a capacity of 90 million cubic meters, a decrease of approximately 50 million cubic meters compared to last year. Salameh indicated that the ministry is working on a project to reduce water loss, and has succeeded in doing so by bringing it down to 46.3% after working to reduce it by 2% annually, with each 1% representing approximately 5 million cubic meters. Jordanians are concerned about the decline in rainfall this year, which will result in reduced water supply to homes and water distribution networks.

Uber, Careem drivers renew their complaints against companies
Ammon News - Drivers using smart transportation apps renewed their complaints about the high percentages deducted by companies for each trip. Lorans Refai, head of the Captains and Drivers Committee, pointed out that the Land Transport Regulatory Commission had previously decided to set limits and ceilings for companies' percentages, not exceeding 22% and not falling below 15%, however, the current deduction reaches 30% for each trip. Refai told "Ammon News Agency" that drivers are demanding that work permits for transportation be floated, so that permits can be issued to the same driver with any company, rather than in the name of a single company, explaining that both Uber and Careem hold approximately 11,500 driver permits out of a total of 13,000, in addition to reducing permit fees to JD200 annually, instead of JD400. The government had tasked the Land Transport Regulatory Commission in April with activating the e-link between the systems it specifies and the smart passenger transport application systems, and updating the instructions for licensing companies and granting permits to achieve service quality and compliance standards and enhance competitiveness in this mode. However, the authority has not issued any such statement to date, he added. Also, the drivers are calling for the vehicle's service life to be extended to 10 years and for the maximum driver age limit to be increased from 60 to 65. In addition, he stated that if their demands continue to be ignored, drivers will be forced to intensify their protests—beginning with sit-ins and partial strikes, and eventually parking their cars at home and not moving them for the benefit of companies. For her part, Abla Washah, spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, confirmed that the commission is reviewing the drivers' demands and is not standing against them. Washah told "Ammon News Agency" that the commission respects all parties, noting that all demands are under review and that it will do what is in the best interest of all parties. The commission had previously responded to drivers' demands and increased the operational lifespan of vehicles from 5 years to 7, she added.

How does Jordan protect its economy from Trump's pressures?
Ammon News - Former Deputy Prime Minister and economic expert Dr. Jawad Anani called on the government to start developing a plan to be cautious and prevent expected executive decisions by US President Donald Trump to pressure Jordan regarding the displacement of Palestinians to the Kingdom. Anani told Ammon News Agency that the government should study US-backed projects, such as the free trade agreement under which Jordanian exports reached $3 billion, and other companies, agreements and projects. He pointed out that the Trump may exert pressure by imposing customs duties on Jordanian exports to the United States, which will negatively affect exporting companies. The government is currently required to control expenditures, try to save them, open the labor market files, and provide new job opportunities for Jordanians, to create an active Jordanian economy, and revive struggling companies to increase exports and increase economic growth, Anani said. Anani believes that the American aid that has been ongoing for years and is estimated at billions of dollars is indispensable at the present time. Despite the European aid, it does not meet the needs as much as the American aid. He also pointed out that the American president may expand the pressures by using his country's tools in Europe, banks, and the International Monetary Fund to stop aid and facilities for Jordan. Trump may also seek to pressure global assessment tools by re-evaluating Jordan after stopping US aid, which would put the Jordanian economy at risk, raising interest rates and making it difficult to obtain loans. Trump's office is full of files from various countries around the world, especially after he made statements about Canada, Mexico, Panama, Russia, Europe and Iran, ruling out that he would devote himself to the Palestinian issue alone, Anani indicated. On December 9, Jordan and the United States signed an agreement on the annual cash support provided by Washington to the general budget, worth $845.1 million. In 2022, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding under which the United States would provide annual financial assistance to the Kingdom worth $1.45 billion for the period between 2023 and 2029.
