6 nabbed over assault on vocalist at JB shopping mall
In the incident last week, the victim was allegedly attacked with a trash can and sustained injuries to the head, face, and body. PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested six men suspected of assaulting the vocalist of a skinhead band at a shopping mall in Johor Bahru last week. Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said the suspects, aged between 28 and 40, were detained in a series of raids conducted over the past two days in Johor Bahru Selatan and Segamat. Police also seized six mobile phones. According to Harian Metro, the victim, who is a member of a Selangor-based band, lodged a report at the Ampang police headquarters at 3pm yesterday. An investigation revealed that the assault took place during a live performance by Remember 69 Rundown in a gymnasium at the mall. The incident is believed to have been sparked by a disagreement between the main suspect and the victim at a music event in Ampang last year. In the incident last week, the victim was allegedly attacked with a trash can and sustained injuries to the head, face, and body. He was treated at Ampang Hospital. Raub said four of the six suspects had criminal records, and that two tested positive for drugs. All six have been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation. Police are tracking down the remaining suspects linked to the incident. On Monday, police said they were investigating the matter after a video of the assault made the rounds on social media. Several video clips showing the altercation, believed to have been posted by the band, were shared on Facebook. The accompanying post, which included several photos of the victim's injuries, claimed that the vocalist was attacked and beaten up by a group of men. The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
