Climate Information Center: Weather in Egypt Starts Improving

Rana Atef Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stated that today marks the last day of the Coptic month of Amshir (30 Amshir 1741). He added that with the end of Amshir, weather conditions begin to improve, giving way to the month of Baramhat, known in ancient Egypt as the season of growth, during which the Nile flood recedes and crops flourish. Fahim explained that this year, Amshir borrowed the extreme cold of Touba at night, as the previous month deceived plants and trees into believing it was a mild and warm Touba. Many historical accounts suggest that Amshir is associated with the storm god "Mentu." A popular proverb describes it as "Amshir, the one with the big drum, bringing storms and strong winds."

A sudden change is expected in the second half of the Coptic month of Amshir (February 8 – March 9), with rising temperatures resulting in moderate weather during the day in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts, and northern Upper Egypt, and warm weather in South Sinai and southern Upper Egypt. The weather will be very cold at night and in the early morning over most of the country. Thursday's weather will see the formation of water mist in the morning on a number of agricultural and fast roads near bodies of water leading to Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts, the Canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, with wind activity across some areas. According to the EMA, the latest satellite images revealed the continuation of cloud cover consisting of low, medium, and cumulonimbus clouds over areas of the Western Desert, northern and southern Upper Egypt. This cloud cover will be accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity in scattered areas across the nation.
