Relish variety of jackfruits at mela in Mysuru from Sunday
Mysuru: The two-day annual jackfruit festival organised by
Sahaja Samrudha
will be held from May 3 at
Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry
in the city.
The festival will showcase the diversity of jackfruit and explore red, white, and yellow-fleshed jackfruits from across Karnataka, known for their unique taste and texture. It also features a jackfruit food bazaar, highlighting its culinary journey with innovative value-added products like jackfruit ice cream, jams, squashes, papads, halwa, kababs, holige, and dosa. Cooking demonstrations will also be held at the event to showcase the versatility of jackfruit in traditional and modern recipes.
Twenty-five unique
jackfruit varieties
, including Rudrakshi Halasu, Siddu, Shankara, Tubagere Halasu, Vietnam Super Early, and Chandra Halasu—rare red jackfruits from Karnataka—will be on display, the organisers said. Over 50 groups will participate in the event, which will also feature organic produce, millets, pulses, and desi rice.
Farmers from HD Kote, Periyapatna, Kollegal, Srirangapatna, Tiptur, Chikkanayakanahalli, and Haveri will bring their best jackfruit produce and value-added products. The festival will be inaugurated by Krishnamurthy Beligere, a poet and organic farmer. Shivanapura Ramesh, an organic farmer, will preside over the event.
The chief guests include Dr Karunakaran, principal scientist and head of the Central Horticultural Experimental Station, Hirehalli, Tumkur, Manjunath Angadi, deputy director of the horticulture department, and Rangarajan TN from Amul Organic–Rich Plus.
