Influencer Tanner Martin is laid to rest after announcing his own death in heartbreaking video

Influencer Tanner Martin was laid to rest during a funeral service in Utah on Saturday after he announced his own death in a heartbreaking video. He passed away at the age of 30 following a battle with stage IV colon cancer which he was first diagnosed with in 2020. The emotional clip was uploaded on June 25 to Instagram by his wife Shay Wright. 41 days before his death, the pair had welcomed their first child together — a daughter named AmyLou. The public service — which was also streamed via Zoom for those that could not attend in person — had been announced by his wife on social media. In a post shared a week earlier, Wright encouraged attendees to 'wear something Star Wars in honor of Tanner — ties, pins, stickers, our custom Rebels Against Cancer shirts with other formal wear.' She added that, 'Tanner requested for Star Wars stickers to be placed on his casket.' Shay further offered gratitude to the love and support both she and Tanner had received from over the years. 'We are so grateful for this community & all of you that love Tanner with us. Your support has carried us in many years.' In the caption, Wright also included a quote from Tanner and penned, '"Be kind and assume good intent." - Tanner. Thank you all for your support during this time.' Martin is survived by Shay, their daughter AmyLou, his mom Kimberly and father Thomas, as well as brother Spencer, per Us Weekly. Tanner was remembered by his loved ones, including his parents that each gave moving eulogies during the funeral service. Kimberly said that her son had been an 'outstanding example of faith' and added, 'Even while being very ill with cancer, if you could, you would attend sacrament your PJs and robe. 'You taught me that you can see the blessings and love in our Savior in any situation. Because of that, it brings happiness,' she continued. Kimberly then recalled a conversation she had with Tanner one day when he was receiving chemotherapy treatment. 'I just asked you, "Are you angry or frustrated because I am?" He looked surprised and said to me, "Ma, because of cancer, I have been so blessed." '"I've been able to experience our Savior's love for me through others. I know I'm loved by my family, friends and those I interact with during treatments,' his mother added. Tanner had said he was 'blessed' and because of his cancer, he was able to meet 'the nurses and doctors and other patients [who] are so amazing.' Towards the end of her eulogy, Kimberly expressed that it was 'a miracle' to see Tanner 'grow your family' with Shay. 'You have left an amazing legacy of faith, kindness, love and what it means to be a true disciple of our Savior for our sweet AmyLou.' Tanner's father also stated that, 'It is an honor and pleasure to be his dad — and it still is,' before adding that his son was 'always just generally happy.' Shortly before his death, Thomas recalled watching Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings movies with Tanner and his brother Spencer. He also credited Shay as being a 'wonderful companion' to Tanner but emotionally added, 'It sometimes doesn't seem fair that I've had 30 Father's Days, and Tanner had one.' Last month on Father's Day, Wright uploaded a video montage to her Instagram page to celebrate Tanner becoming a dad when their daughter was born. And 10 days later, Tanner delivered the heartbreaking news of his death in a pre-recorded video message posted by Shay. The couple had documented his difficult journey on social media after he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer five years earlier. Tanner was as smiley and disarming as ever as he addressed the camera directly. 'Hey, it's me, Tanner. If you're watching this, I am dead,' he began, before easing some of the tension with a laugh at his own gallows humor. 'I had a heck of a life. I decided to make this video announcing my death because I saw someone did that, like, a year or so ago, and I think it's a good opportunity to get all your thoughts out,' he explained. Despite his bubbly demeanor, his voice was clearly weak and raspy as he spoke about how his wife Shay would cope with his death just weeks after becoming a new mother. 'But you guys, life was awesome. I really enjoyed it while I was here,' Tanner continued. 'Hopefully, I believe there's something after this. I'm excited to meet those people, and hopefully we're hanging out now and making fun of all you nerds,' he said, before noting family members whose deaths preceded his own. 'There's just a lot of people that for the afterlife, I'm excited to see them, and excited to see them not in pain and just happy,' he added. Even more shocking than the announcement of his own death was how optimistic Tanner managed to be as the end of his time on Earth neared. 'I don't know. I'm like, death is scary, but it's also like a new adventure, you know,' he admitted. 'I'm excited to see what the experience is like, and hopefully it's good.' He concluded his video by stating that he loved his fans and thanking them for their 'support and helping to make the last years of my life here on earth like fun and enjoyable and helping me be comfortable.' In her caption, his wife Shay wrote, 'May the force be with you from our angel force ghost see the next video for his wish.' The second video Shay shared on Wednesday again featured Tanner in the same room, but he was visibly weaker and his voice was even more frail. He sat on a sofa wrapped in a thick blanket, and next to him was his snoozing baby daughter AmyLou on a pink pillow. In the heartbreaking video, Tanner said that his daughter likely would have no memories of him because of how young she would be when he died. He urged his fans to help his wife and daughter after his death by contributing to a GoFundMe account set up in their name. By 2023, doctors determined that Tanner's cancer was no longer curable, and they estimated that he might live two to five more years According to the Washington Post, Tanner began noticing symptoms of his cancer — initially just stomach aches — in 2020. But the pain soon grew, and he decided to see a doctor about it after he began having difficulty going to the bathroom as well. A colonoscopy soon discovered that he had stage 4 colorectal cancer, which had already spread to his liver by the time it was discovered. By 2023, doctors determined that Tanner's cancer was no longer curable, and they estimated that he might live two to five more years.

Days after announcing the death of her husband, Tanner Martin, Shay Wright took to GoFundMe to thank their fans for their generous donations and continued support of her and their infant daughter, AmyLou Contributions to the fundraiser for Martin surpassed its initial $250,000 goal "almost immediately," moving Wright to raise the aim again so she can donate proceeds to a non-profit and open a scholarship at his alma mater Wright announced the heartbreaking news that Martin had died at age 30 on June 25. She posted a pre-recorded video of him to their social media pages, where they had documented their lives since his colon cancer diagnosis five years agoTanner Martin's wife is sharing her gratitude for their generous fans after Martin's death at age 30. Shay Wright originally shared the heartbreaking news that her husband had died in an Instagram post published on Wednesday, June 25. Days later, Wright updated their GoFundMe page with a heartfelt message in response to the outpouring of support and significant donations from their online community. "I've been sitting with my hand on my heart all day, just trying to take it all in. Tanner always said the internet could be a beautiful place — and now I've seen it with my own eyes," wrote Wright, who created content with Martin, documenting their lives on social media after Tanner was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at age 25. "The love and kindness pouring in from every corner of the world—from our TikTok and Instagram families, from friends and total strangers—is beyond anything I could've imagined," Wright's GoFundMe post continued. As she recounted, the original fundraiser goal was $250,000, set with the intention to fulfill Martin's "last wish." In a pre-recorded video posted after his death, he explained that the donations would help Wright and their infant daughter AmyLou. They announced her birth on May 15. "It'll help replace my income. It'll help pay for babysitting. It'll help for school, for her wedding. All these things that normally Shay and I would do together," Martin said in the posthumous video. "If I'm gone, it's gonna be really hard for Shay to do on her own." They hit the initial goal "almost immediately," Wright said, and donations surpassed $400,000 within 24 hours. "You've given AmyLou and me so much more than financial support. You've given us hope. You've made us feel seen. You've honored Tanner in the most incredible way," wrote Wright in her latest update. "I just can't wrap my head around it. We have even been able to cry some happy tears in the last day, realizing that even in his passing, this amazing man is taking care of me and AmyLou." The grieving mom continued to say that she once again upped the financial aim to $750,000 "to do two important things I want to do to honor my sweet Tanner's memory," she explained. In addition to "providing long-term security" for Wright and her daughter, 25% of anything over $500,000 will now also help support the non-profit organization Rebels Against Cancer. An additional 25% of the donations surpassing $500,000 will go towards establishing a scholarship in Martin's name at his alma mater, Utah Valley University. The Tanner Martin Memorial Scholarship will "help future students pursue their dreams with the same boldness and heart Tanner lived with every single day," wrote Wright. "Tanner always said, 'Keep it real.' And this is as real as it gets. You've reminded me that even in grief, there is so much light," she concluded on GoFundMe. "Thank you for showing up. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for believing that Tanner's legacy can keep changing lives." Read the original article on People

The popular influencer Tanner Martin has died at the age of 30. In a surprising move, it was Tanner himself who delivered the news in a devastating pre-recorded video posted Wednesday to Instagram by his wife Shay Wright. ‘If you're watching this, I'm dead': Influencer Tanner Martin announces his death at 30

'Hey, it's me, Tanner. If you're watching this, I am dead.' For the past several years, Tanner Martin documented his colon cancer diagnosis for hundreds of thousands of followers. That included rounds of chemo and radiation and half a dozen major surgeries, as well as a visit to his future gravesite. It also included more joyful moments, like a vow renewal ceremony in Ireland with his wife, Shay Martin, and other trips abroad. Just last month, it included the arrival of their first child, AmyLou, after the in vitro fertilisation experience they chronicled. But on June 25, Shay Martin, Tanner's wife, posted one final video on behalf of her husband, who had recorded the message to be posted when he died. He was 30. The five-minute video has been viewed more than eight million times on TikTok, and over three million times on Instagram. Watch the video below: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shay Martin (@tannerandshay) Tanner was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in November 2020. In February 2023, he learned that the cancer was terminal. And in April of that year, the couple began posting on TikTok about his treatments, their grief and preparations for Tanner's eventual death. The Washington Post visited the family as they were preparing for their daughter's birth. Tanner died at home in American Fork, Utah, on Wednesday surrounded by family, Shay said. Her husband recorded the goodbye video in March. 'I had a heck of a life,' Tanner says in the video, adding that recording a message before his death was 'a good opportunity to get all your thoughts out.' He added that it might give his wife the space to grieve. The couple posted less than a week ago that he had entered hospice care. Who was Tanner Martin? Tanner Martin was born on December 22, 1994, in Salt Lake City before moving to China and Taiwan for a few years with his parents, Kimberly Watts and Tom Martin, who taught English. The family eventually settled in Draper, Utah. When he was 18, Tanner served in a mission in Arizona for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That's where he met Shay, whose father, Steve Wright, was a bishop in the church. Two stayed in touch on Facebook and eventually reconnected back in Utah. They married in 2018. Tanner was pursuing a master's degree to become a marriage and family therapist when he was diagnosed with cancer. Shay first started sharing updates on social media as a way to keep family up to date onTanner's treatment. But they quickly discovered a network of cancer fighters and caregivers. 'Death is like a new adventure' 'Being my age, none of my friends were going through anything similar,' Shay said in an interview on June 26 as she took a break from feeding AmyLou. 'It was really nice to met people in similar situations that we could connect with.' The couple wanted to be open about their experiences, 'the good, the bad, the ugly, the hard and the beautiful,' she said. 'It's been both beauty and really hard.' In the video, Tanner asks his followers to continue to support his wife and their daughter with donations and gift cards. 'I'm going to guess Jiaozi will probably like milk,' he says with a laugh, using a nickname for AmyLou, before holding his head in his hand. She earned the nickname Jiaozi, which means dumpling in Mandarin, at the couple's first ultrasound when Tanner dotingly noted the resemblance. 'Life was awesome. I really enjoyed it while I was here,' Tanner says. 'I believe there's something after this. I'm excited to meet those people, and hopefully we're hanging out now and making fun of all you nerds.' He left with a few words of advice: Be kind to one another and assume good intent from others. 'Death is scary, but it's also like a new adventure, you know,' he says. 'I'm excited to see what the experience is like, and hopefully it's good.'

Who was Tanner Martin? US influencer with colon cancer who announced his own death in video

Tanner Martin, a well-known Utah-based content creator, known for sharing his journey with stage four colon cancer, died at age 30. He addressed his Instagram followers in a pre-recorded emotional video posted on June 25 to the joint account he shared with his wife, Shay Wright. He expressed gratitude to supporters, describing 'life was awesome'. Tanner Martin was a former call centre employee who received a huge online following by publicly stating and showing his cancer journey, reports said. The GoFundMe called Martin as 'a loving husband, a proud father, and a beautiful soul who touched the lives of so many with his courage and humor, even in the face of terminal illness.' Martin turned to social media to document the highs and lows of his journey through treatment, recovery, and ultimately, becoming a father, after being diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer five years ago. With his treatment showing positive results, he and Shay made the decision to start a family in 2023. Their daughter AmyLou was born on 15 May this year. Tragically, Martin's health deteriorated rapidly shortly after that. Despite enduring significant physical suffering, Martin's honesty, humour, and courage resonated with people around the world. He stayed hopeful, funny, and inspiring until the very end. 'I had a heck of a life. I decided to make this video announcing my death because I saw someone did that, like, a year or so ago, and I think it's a good opportunity to get all your thoughts out," he said. 'But you guys, life was awesome. I really enjoyed it while I was here. Hopefully, I believe there's something after this. I'm excited to meet those people, and hopefully we're hanging out now and making fun of all you nerds," Martin added. Martin was seen draped in blankets, and sat beside his newborn daughter in a separate video. He joked, "for the price of a McChicken you could fund my AmyLou's legacy fund." His fans were dejected after the video. "I am so glad Tanner was able to meet AmyLou and have Father's Day with her," one of the users remarked. "Oh tanner... I'm so glad he did this for you Shay it's beautiful. Sending prayers to you and your little girl. Heaven just gained the best angel. Love you," another stated.
