"Friendly nations have understood India's position...", says Congress MP Anand Sharma

Cairo [Egypt], June 4 (ANI): Congress MP Anand Sharma, who is part of the all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule completed their four-nation visit on Wednesday. He issued strong remarks against Pakistan and said that friendly nations extended support to India's position on terrorism and assured backing for a pending UN proposal on a global convention against terrorism. While speaking to ANI in Cairo, Sharma said, 'We are encouraged by the fact that friendly nations have understood India's position. They condemned the terror attack on India.' He confirmed that discussions were held on India's long-pending proposal at the United Nations for a comprehensive international convention against terrorism. 'We also talked about our pending proposal in the UN regarding the comprehensive international convention against terrorism, and we received assurances of support in this regard as well,' he added. The Congress leader also criticised Pakistan's international outreach, calling it a 'copycat move' in response to India's diplomatic efforts. 'What will they say? They first need to clarify. They should look after their people. They take money from the IMF, and that money is misused by the military; it is used for spreading terrorism... Pakistan must understand that it cannot blackmail; it must look into itself first,' Sharma told ANI. He also commented on global trade tensions and the changing attitude of major economic powers. 'The countries which were the great champions of free trade are seeking to undermine the WTO. However, a rule-based multilateral trade regime is something that the world would continue to need, given the imbalance and disparities, and a one-size-fits-all solution is not workable. But all countries are also engaged in trade negotiations or tariff negotiations with the United States of America after the big disruption of the shocking shocks that are being delivered region-wise. But there is no need to panic...' he explained. While discussing India-Pakistan relations, Sharma reminded that three Indian Prime Ministers had extended diplomatic outreach to Pakistan, only to face betrayal. 'Our three Prime Ministers have talked to their (Pakistan) Prime Ministers and Presidents; Atal Bihar Vajpayee went to Lahore, spoke to Nawaz Sharif, and soon after that, Kargil happened. Then, parliament was attacked. After the Agra meeting, similar things happened, then the Mumbai attack occurred, in which Indian citizens, along with some foreign nationals, were killed... all these things show their intention...' he said, highlighting Pakistan's history of backstabbing India's peace efforts. Earlier, Congress MP Anand Sharma on Saturday said that India gave a 'befitting reply' in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Interacting with the Indian community in Addis Ababa, Anand Sharma emphasised that India does not believe in violence and war and highlighted that only the terrorist organisations were targeted in the precise Indian strikes under Operation Sindoor. 'It is an ancient culture of centuries that we do not attack any country, but we gave the attackers a befitting reply. Our army fought back strongly this time too; they targeted only the terrorist organisations.' 'India's thinking is clear that India is not a country that believes in violence and war. It is an ancient culture of centuries that we do not attack any country, but we gave the attackers a befitting reply. Our army fought back strongly this time too; they targeted only the terrorist organisations,' Anand Sharma said. He cornered Pakistan of protecting terrorists while referring to the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack. 'When the Mumbai attack or the Parliament attack occurred, the whole world was stunned. But our agencies did the right thing. India did not sleep; it took time to identify the culprits. Cases were filed in America as well, but in Pakistan, cases were not filed contrary to what they had assured the world, the United Nations. Because these attacks were carried out at their behest with their help,' he said. (ANI)

"We gave a befitting reply": All-party delegation member Anand Sharma in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa [Ethiopia], June 1 (ANI): Congress MP Anand Sharma, who is part of the multi-party delegation to Ethiopia on Saturday (local time), said that India gave a 'befitting reply' in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Interacting with the Indian community in Addis Adaba, Anand Sharma emphasised that India does not believe in violence and war and highlighted that only the terrorist organisations were targeted in the precise Indian strikes under Operation Sindoor. 'It is an ancient culture of centuries that we do not attack any country, but we gave the attackers a befitting reply. Our army fought back strongly this time too; they targeted only the terrorist organisations. 'India's thinking is clear that India is not a country that believes in violence and war. It is an ancient culture of centuries that we do not attack any country, but we gave the attackers a befitting reply. Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tiwari warned Pakistan that if they do not stop promoting terrorism, then India's response will be 'very aggressive.' 'When it comes to India's self-respect, we all rise above party politics and stand together to pay our respects to Bharat Mata... If Pakistan does not stop promoting terrorism, then the answer, which has been very calculated till now, will be very aggressive,' Manish Tewari said. Lauding the Indian community for their contribution to Ethiopia's education, BJP MP Anurag Thakur urged them to convey India's message against terrorism. 'Most of the people used to say that Indian films are the India's soft power; when in Ethiopia, I came to know about another soft power that we all can be proud of - be it former prime minister of Ethiopia are any other leader - all have said that it's Indian teachers who have educated us ... You have created many leaders, and hence, you are the leader of the leaders; you are the Guru. And hence, you can convey a message very clearly that India has been a victim of terrorism for the last 4-5 decades. We have lost thousands of lives because of cross-border terrorism,' Anurag Thakur said. Thakur further asserted that India has repeatedly 'thrashed' Pakistan in direct confrontation therefore, they sponsor terrorism to kill innocent people. 'Whenever there has been a direct war, be it 1965, 1971 or Kargil, India has constantly thrashed Pakistan. Pakistan understand it cannot fight us directly and hence it sponsors terrorism to kill innocent people,' Thakur said. Earlier, the Supriya Sule-led delegation met with Tagesse Chaffo, Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives of Ethiopia, and members of the House. They also delivered remarks on Operation Sindoor and India's united stance against terrorism. The Supriya Sule-led delegation is in Ethiopia. The delegation includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy (BJP), Vikramjit Singh Sahney (AAP), Manish Tewari (Congress), Anurag Singh Thakur (BJP), Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP), Anand Sharma (Congress), V Muraleedharan (BJP), and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin. Seven all-party delegations are taking part in various outreach programmes in the countries they are assigned to. The delegations aim to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its fight against cross-border terrorism. (ANI)

"They not only train, fund, arm but also shelter & protect these terrorist organisations": Anand Sharma on Pak

Doha [Qatar], May 26 (ANI): Congress leader Anand Sharma, member of the all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule, on Monday termed Pakistan as 'a sham of democracy' and said that they not only 'train, fund, arm but also shelter and protect these terrorists organisation' who claimed responsibility for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, referring to the The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Sharma, who is a member of the all-party delegation going to Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa, said, 'With clarity, we would like to convey to you that this is not the first time that India has been targeted by a terrorist attack from across the border. Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba are not only headquartered in Pakistan's Bahawalpur and Muridke, but those who claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, the TRF is a front of the Jaish-e-Mohammad. These two organisations are UN-designated terror groups, and that has to be registered,' while citing attacks on Indian Parliament, Uri, Udhampur and Poonch and 'big' attack on 26/11 (2008 Mumbai attacks), 'in which the citizens of the world were killed.' The Congress leader stated that the objective of their diplomatic mission here was to 'sensitise the people about the 'seriousness of the situation as it prevails' 'Pakistan is a sham of a democracy, which is run by its military and the ISI. They not only train, fund, arm, but also shelter and protect these terrorist organisations, which is reprehensible. If UN-designated terrorist headquarters in Pakistan were targeted, why would they attack our military installations and even civilians? We have come here to inform and form public opinion, sensitise the people of the seriousness of this situation as it prevails,' he said, during a question and answer session here. In a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists, in which 26 people were brutally killed. Indian armed forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the elimination of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
