Late last season, Anang revealed how Ghana have been monitoring him for two years with a view to a call-up. At the time, the Saints ace said: 'We have been speaking the last two years but I was at West Ham as a No 3 and not playing. 'They might look at me more in the future (being back at St Pat's), you never know. I'm just putting in the work and waiting for a call-up.' Arsenal's Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus of West Ham have been told they can sit out the Unity Cup, so won't be part of the squad with Anang. Antoine Semenyo, and Kamaldeen Sulemana and Inaki Williams are other notable absentees.

St Patrick's Athletic goalkeeper Joseph Anang called into Ghana squad for the first time
ST PAT'S keeper Joseph Anang has been called into the Ghana squad for the first time. Anang returned to St Pat's last summer on a permanent deal having previously enjoyed a successful stint on loan from West Ham in 2022. Previously capped by England at under-20 level when he was with the Hammers, he has caught Ghana boss Otto Addo's eye with his performances for the Saints. Anang moved to England as a teenager and had previously spoken about wanting to represent the country of his birth. And that has moved a step closer with his call-up for the Unity Cup at Brentford's GTech Community Stadium. The other keepers in the squad are 23-times capped Lawrence Ati-Zigi, an ever-present for Swiss side St. Gallen this season and Hearts of Oak's Benjamin Asare, who won his first two caps in March. Read More On Irish Football The revived Unity Cup - which included Ireland when last held in 2004 - also features Jamaica, Nigeria and Trinidad & Tobago. The Black Stars face Nigeria in their semi-final on Wednesday with a final and third-place play-off on Saturday. As the games do not fall during the international window, St Pat's were not obliged to release their keeper. And it is understood that he will return to Ireland after the first game and be available for St Pat's league match away to Sligo Rovers on Friday, their last before the mid-season break. Mason Melia hits fine double but Waterford earn 2-2 draw with St Pat's
St Patrick's Athletic 2 Waterford 2 Paul Buttner reports from Richmond Park CONAN NOONAN SALVAGED a deserved point for Waterford with a late equaliser in this thrilling roller coaster at Richmond Park. Mason Melia's brilliant first half brace looked to have got St Pat's back to winning ways after Monday's 4-0 mauling at Shamrock Rovers. But having taken an early lead, John Coleman's Blues came to Inchicore to play and got their reward through the impressive Noonan 10 minutes from time. When Grant Horton's deep cross wasn't cleared, the ball ran for midfielder Noonan who rifled a low shot to the corner of Joseph Anang's net from a tight angle. Poor defending was the hallmark of St Pat's defeat in Tallaght and they carried that into this game to find themselves behind as early as 70 seconds. Blues' goalkeeper Stephen McMullen's clearance wasn't dealt with as Saints' skipper Joe Redmond's header came off the back of Barry Baggley's head. Are you even surprised?😮💨 Mason Melia turns the game around at Richmond Park! — League of Ireland (@LeagueofIreland) May 23, 2025 Advertisement Noonan hooked the loose ball into the St Pat's penalty area where Tommy Lonergan initially miss-controlled it. The danger remained when Sean Hoare failed to clear with the ball falling to Horton. His shot came back off St Pat's Sjoberg to tee up Tommy Lonergan, who scored in winning the FAI Cup with St Pat's in 2023, to calmly slip it past Anang. Clearly rattled, St Pat's surveyed going 2-0 down from Waterford's second corner of the game when the totally untracked Rowan McDonald bounced his header over. With St Pat's continuing to struggle to get a foothold in the game, Anang rescued them with a stunning save eight minutes later when tipping over Noonan's acrobatic bicycle kick. St Pat's needed something special to get them back into the game and it arrived on 28 minutes from 17-year-old Tottenham-bound Melia. Redmond was given far too much space to advance from deep to get a shot away. Melia showed his striker's instinct to cleverly nick the ball off Darragh Leahy, skip around him and drill it past McMullan. If that was good, it got better four minutes later when Melia put Saints in front with another stunning strike. Axel Sjoberg's long clearance, following a Waterford corner, was miss-controlled by James Olayinka on the halfway line. Showing power and pace beyond his years, Melia bustled past the sluggish Olayinka to race through and place his shot to the corner of the net for a brilliantly composed fourth goal in four games and fifth of the season. The game remained entertainingly open into the second half. Jake Mulraney's free kick shaved a post for St Pat's at one end before Lonergan's header from a Noonan corner was saved by Anang at the other. Another Noonan corner then almost brought an equaliser when coming off Hoare to strike a post before Waterford got their due reward on 80 minutes. St Patrick's Athletic: Anang; Sjoberg, Hoare, Redmond, Breslin; Forrester (McLaughlin, 57), Baggley; Elbouzedi, Leavy (McClelland, 73), Mulraney (Power, 57); Melia (Keena, 76). Waterford: McMullan; McDonald, Leahy, Burke; Horton, Olayinka, Glenfield (McMenamy, 85), Noonan, White (Dempsey, 63); Lonergan, Amond. Referee: Rob Hennessy (Clare).

Shamrock Rovers rout injury-hit Saints in Tallaght
Shamrock Rovers 4 St Patrick's Athletic 0 Paul Buttner reports from Tallaght Stadium ANOTHER CLEVERLY-TAKEN goal from the precocious Michael Noonan sent Shamrock Rovers on their way to an unexpectedly facile fourth successive win as they punished injury-hit St Patrick's Athletic's defensive frailty at Tallaght Stadium. Man-of-the-match Graham Burke rowed in with a brace before Aaron Greene added a fourth to inflict St Patrick's heaviest defeat since Stephen Kenny took charge just over a year ago. Their impressive current momentum moves Stephen Bradley's Rovers five points clear at the summit of the Premier Division, albeit with a game more played, ahead of Friday's trip for a top-of-the-table meeting with Derry City. A third defeat in four games sees St Patrick's, who topped the table at the end of March, drop to sixth place, seven points behind Rovers. Having named Shamrock Rovers' wingback Josh Honohan in his squad for the June friendlies, Republic of Ireland men's team manager Heimir Hallgrímsson was an interested spectator as Rovers should have punished an error to take the lead before a minute was played. Rovers' Jack Byrne and Zack Elbouzedi of St. Pats. Ryan Byrne / INPHO Ryan Byrne / INPHO / INPHO Defender Sean Hoare, a former Hoop, inexplicably took a long throw across his own penalty area which fell straight at the feet of Burke. Joseph Anang saved his defender's embarrassment when parrying Burke's volley out for the first corner of the game. Advertisement Hoare was soon close to redeeming his mistake when St Patrick's raided with intent for the first time. Joe Redmond nodded Barry Baggley's deep corner back across goal for Hoare whose header was off target. Mason Melia then showed his promise as the 17-year-old spun Rovers' captain Roberto Lopes to set up Simon Power whose shot was deflected out for another corner. In what was still an open game, Burke, played in by Cory O'Sullivan, worked Anang again before a gross misjudgement by the Saints' goalkeeper all but gifted Rovers the lead on 22 minutes. Burke's ball down the right looked to pose little threat, but Anang raced out from his goal in the hope of reaching it first only to be beaten to it by the alert Noonan. And before Anang could retreat back to his goal, the 16-year-old, in an almost identical situation to his goal in Waterford on Friday night, showed terrific composure to shoot into the unguarded net. The goalkeeping had to be more assured at the other end on 33 minutes to prevent a St Patrick's equaliser. Aidan Keena dinked a clever pass through for the run of Melia to bring a good save from the well-positioned Ed McGinty. Two minutes later Rovers doubled their lead, again punishing poor defending. Burke was allowed to carry the ball from the halfway line, cut all too easily past a sluggish Jamie Lennon, before drilling a shot low and hard past Anang into the bottom corner of the net. Further punishment should have been inflicted on the disjointed St Patrick's defence when Honohan ghosted between two defenders only to drive over. St Patrick's were then left incensed in stoppage time at the end of the half when Melia looked to have been tripped by Lopes inside the area. But no penalty was forthcoming. The game was then all but over as a contest five minutes into the second half when Rovers extended their lead. Noonan showed his tenacity to win a tackle with Luke Turner. Grant pounced on the loose ball to burst forward to cross and give Burke a simple tap-in for his sixth goal of the season. Substitute Aaron Greene added the gloss with a fourth goal seconds after coming on in the 69 minutes, calmly curling a low shot past Anang to the bottom corner for a well-taken fifth strike of the campaign. Shamrock Rovers: McGinty; Grace (Clarke, 61), Lopes, C. O'Sullivan; Grant, Nugent (Mandriou, 67), Healy, Honohan; Byrne (McEneff, 67), Burke (Watts, 67); Noonan (Greene, 67).
