AMC seizes 105 tins of suspicious cooking oil from Behrampura
Ahmedabad: On Friday, the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) conducted a raid at the packaging unit of Milan Oils Pvt Ltd , located near Chandola Lake in the Behrampura area of the city. The health department collected samples of refined palm oil (Gujarat brand) and refined soybean oil (Ananta brand) from the packaged tins and sent them to a food laboratory for testing. Due to suspicions about the cooking oil, 105 tins, comprising 90 tins of refined palm oil (Gujarat brand) and 15 tins of refined soybean oil (Ananta brand), were seized. These tins will remain confiscated until the test results of the samples from these two brands are received. Additionally, between April 15 and 26, the department inspected 916 units across various areas of the city, issuing notices to 349 units for violations of regulations. They destroyed 529 kilograms of inedible food and 608 litres of inedible liquid. A total of 195 TPC tests were conducted. From April 15 to 26, the health department conducted inspections in various areas of the city, collecting 163 food samples. These included 11 samples of milk products, 4 bakery product samples, 36 samples of gram flour sweets, 19 samples of mango juice and other beverages, 5 samples of cold drinks, 5 samples of cooking oil, 14 spice samples, and 69 samples of other food items, all sent to a food laboratory for testing. On Saturday, the health department announced the results of food samples taken from three different units in the city. The sample of malai paneer from Baba Deep Singh Restaurant on Naroda-Dehgam Road was declared unsafe. Meanwhile, the strawberry ice cream sample from Yashvi Beverages in Paldi and the refined palm oil sample from Milan Oil Depot in Jamalpur were declared substandard. While the health department conducts inspections in various units across Ahmedabad city, samples of packaged snacks are not taken. Additionally, samples of various well-known ice creams or branded cold drinks are not collected. Although the sale of branded ice creams and cold drinks increases during the summer, their samples are not regularly taken.
