Dharmasthala case: Ananya Bhat's photo released

Mangaluru, Aug 17 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala case has intensified its investigation even as the missing case of Ananya Bhat, filed by her mother Sujatha Bhat, has come into the spotlight. Sujatha Bhat released the passport-size photograph of her daughter, Ananya Bhat, for the first time, following mounting questions about the girl's identity and her disappearance. Until now, despite filing a complaint, Sujatha had not provided any photograph, raising doubts in public and among investigators. According to the complaint, Ananya, a medical college student, had visited the Dharmasthala temple with her friends but never returned. Sujatha, who was then working as a stenographer with the CBI in Kolkata, alleged that when she tried to lodge a missing complaint, she was threatened and turned away. She also claimed that when she raised the matter before the temple administration, she was assaulted by the staff, leaving her in a coma for three months. The controversy deepened after a masked complainant alleged that hundreds of bodies were buried in Dharmasthala. Sujatha submitted that if her daughter's remains were found among those exhumed and her DNA matched, the body should be handed over to her so that Hindu last rites could be performed. The SIT is simultaneously carrying out the exhumation of skeletal remains and examining Sujatha's complaint. Sujatha's lawyer Manjunath urged her to release her daughter's photograph in response to widespread demands on social media. The Ananya Bhat disappearance has now become one of the most debated aspects of the Dharmasthala case, which has already created a nationwide stir. UNI BDN ARN

Dharmasthala mass burials case: Medico's mom seeks ground radar scan

MANGALURU: The legal counsel representing Sujatha Bhat, mother of Ananya Bhat, an MBBS student, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in Dharmasthala a decade ago, has urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to use Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at locations already identified and excavated by the witness-complainant in the Dharmasthala mass burial case. Advocate N Manjunath in a press note said, 'As the witness himself has stated, he left Dharmasthala in 2014. The Dharmasthala region experiences heavy rainfall and there is a high possibility of soil shifting and accumulation from one place to another. Since considerable changes have occurred in the forest area over approximately 11 years, there is a high probability that the landmarks the witness had relied on in his memory may have changed or shifted. Therefore, as we previously petitioned on July 29, 2025, we request the deployment of the most advanced GPR to detect skeletal remains at the already excavated locations and in the surrounding areas,' he said. He requested the SIT that the GPR units, which are comparable in size to machines used for clearing grass and weeds, be deployed to detect skeletal remains at the already excavated locations. He also commended the SIT for the ongoing excavation process. 'Many experts anticipate that the SIT, led by Pronab Mohanty, will go for GPR technology. We have faith and confidence that the state government and CM Siddaramaiah will support the SIT in deploying GPRs,' he said.

Dharmasthala mass burials case: SIT urged to deploy GPR at excavation sites flagged by witness

MANGALURU: The legal counsel representing Sujatha Bhat — mother of Ananya Bhat, an MBBS student who went missing under mysterious circumstances in Dharmasthala a decade ago — has urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to deploy Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at locations previously identified and excavated by the complainant witness in the mass burial case. Advocate N Manjunath, in a press communiqué, said: 'As the witness himself has stated, he left Dharmasthala in 2014. The Dharmasthala region experiences heavy rainfall and there is a high possibility of soil shifting and accumulation from one place to another. Since considerable changes have occurred in the forest area over approximately 11 years, there is a high probability that the landmarks the witness had relied on in his memory may have changed or shifted.' 'Therefore, as we previously petitioned on July 29, 2025, we request the deployment of the most advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) available in India to detect skeletal remains at the already excavated locations and in the surrounding areas,' he said. He further requested that the SIT use GPR units — comparable in size to machines used for clearing grass and weeds and operable by a small team — to detect skeletal remains both at the previously excavated locations and in adjacent areas. The counsel also commended the SIT for the ongoing excavation process. 'Many experts anticipate that the SIT, led by Pronab Mohanty, will implement GPR technology. We have faith and confidence that the Karnataka Government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will support the SIT in deploying GPRs,' he said.
