In honor of Pride Month, the 18-year-old actress, who played Lily Tucker-Pritchett on the beloved ABC sitcom for almost a decade, just shared that she is bisexual and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. Anderson-Emmons paid tribute to the series while sharing the personal announcement, quoting an iconic line from a scene that she filmed when she was just a little girl. In the scene, her on-screen aunt Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, portrayed by , told a young Lily that she was Vietnamese, to which the little girl responded, "No I'm not, I'm gay, I'm gay!" One of Lily's dads, 's Mitchell Prittchett, then responds by saying, "Honey, no, you're not gay. You are just confused!" 🎬 Anderson-Emmons laughed along while quoting the scene, adding an on screen message that read, "people keep joking so much abt me being gay when I literally am (I'm bi)." Since Modern Family wrapped in 2020, Anderson-Emmons has been focused on her education but recently announced a new artist project where she will be releasing music under the name Frances Anderson. She released her first song, "Telephones and Traffic," late last month and is set to release her second single, "Don't Forget Me," on June 27. Modern Family alum , who was just four years old when she landed the fan-favorite role of Lily Tucker-Pritchett, is making a major career pivot five years after the comedy series went off the air. The young actress, now 17, has featured in a variety of musical theater productions since then, as she documents on her TikTok account, and now she's announced another new venture: a brand new original song called "Telephones and Traffic," out this Friday, May 23. Anderson-Emmons took to the social media platform multiple times this week to tease the new track, sharing a preview of the song and music video that fans are already calling "ethereal." "Such a dreamy song 💭✨ love it!" one fan complimented in the comments, as another called the tone "majestic" and someone else declared, "this is ethereal 💖." "THIS IS SO HEAVENLY," someone else exclaimed. Her singing was praised as "amazing," with one fan calling her voice " warm honey." The mockumentary-style series ran for 11 seasons until its cancellation in 2020. The actress, who now sports bangs and is much older than she was on the show, opened up about what it was like growing up on TV. "I was not forced into anything," Anderson-Emmons said of her child stardom. "Like, my mom wasn't like, 'You're gonna do this.' Like, it was not like that, and I was not abused on set or anything like that. Like, I swear to God." She continued, "But, it's true. You don't know what you're getting yourself into as a 4-year-old when, like, you sign a contract to be on a show." "I just think it was really hard for me to grow up with so many people's opinions," she continued, noting it was difficult to handle rejection while auditioning for roles after Modern Family ended. After taking a break from acting for a few years, Anderson-Emmons said she got involved in her high school theater program and realized she really did love acting.
