Joao Felix says late Jota 'will forever be part of football history'
Jota was killed along with brother Andre Silva when their Lamborghini went off the road in northern Spain on July 3. Just 11 days prior to the accident, the Portuguese forward had married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children. The Premier League remembered Jota over the weekend in a series of moving tributes. Adding his voice to the outpouring of grief across the football world, Felix looked visibly moved as he spoke about his good friend and international colleague. Felix, who was among the mourners at the brothers' funeral, said: "Diogo to me was one of my best friends in the national team, he was always part of our mini group in the national team, those of us who were always together. "I knew his family, especially his parents, an incredible family." Speaking in Hong Kong, where Felix is with his new team Al Nassr for this week's Saudi Super Cup, the 25-year-old added: "I think he will forever be a part of football history, he will remain in the hearts of those who were already close to him. "After that day, every time we go on the field we will remember him and play in part for him." The attacker Felix joined fellow Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr late last month from Chelsea in a move reported to be worth up to 43.7 million pounds ($58 million).

Preview: Leeds United vs Everton
Premier League football returns to Elland Road on Monday evening, when Leeds United take on Everton in the first game of the 2025/26 campaign for either side. Kick-off in West Yorkshire is scheduled for 8pm and the match is a total sell-out. For those without a ticket, you can watch live on Sky Sports. Ahead of kick-off, both teams will come together to pay our respects to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. The two teams come into the game on the back of a hard-working pre-season within each camp and will now be looking for a strong start, with some fresh faces in the squads. In pre-season, the Toffees played seven matches and had indifferent results, both within the UK and as part of the Premier League Summer Series within the USA. The Whites went unbeaten over the summer in their matches, with three draws coming against Manchester United, Villarreal and AC Milan. In the middle of those games a productive week in Germany saw wins over Paderborn and SC Verl. Daniel Farke's side have made eight summer additions upon their return to the top-flight and that is matched by David Moyes, who has also seen eight fresh faces announced for his squad. In the nine games already played so far this weekend, there has been 23 goals scored. Three out of the nine games finished level, four went the way of the home side, and two saw the away team pick up the three points. This fixture was played out on the opening day of the 2021/22 Premier League season, which saw the match end level in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Elche agree deal for RB Leipzig star
La Liga newcomers Elche have this weekend struck an agreement for an altogether high-profile addition to the club's attacking ranks. The player on his way in at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero? André Silva. Frontman Silva is for his part fresh off an underwhelming campaign in 2024/25, which saw the experienced Portuguese international struggle across stints with German sides RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen. The 29-year-old has since returned to base with the former, albeit with the expectation having long been that he would soon be on the move once more. And as alluded to above, this weekend, Silva's next landing spot has been revealed. As per a report from transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, the ex-Porto and AC Milan man is all set to link up with promoted La Liga outfit Elche: 'Elche reach agreement in principle to sign André Silva as new striker. Deal in place with RB Leipzig for Portuguese striker to join Elche project.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Liverpool pay another heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota with poignant dressing room gesture during opening Premier League game of the season
Liverpool have paid tribute to Diogo Jota with a poignant gesture. Ahead of the opening game of the Premier League season as Liverpool faced Bournemouth it emerged that Jota still has a seat in the dressing room at Anfield. The space is unoccupied, with Jota's name listed above it. This is also the case at Liverpool's training ground. Jota and his brother Andre Silva passed away in a car crash in Spain on July 3. Liverpool retired the No 20 shirt in memory of Jota, who died at the age of 28. Many tributes have been paid to Jota during the opening weekend of the Premier League season. On Friday, a minute's silence preceded kick-off, with both teams wearing black armbands. There was also a special fan mosaic of Jota in the stands. Images of Jota and Silva were displayed on the stadium screens, while the 'Forever 20' emblem adorned the shirts of Liverpool players. Mohamed Salah scored late on as Liverpool won 4-2, with the winger mimicking Jota's 'crocodile' celebration. Salah broke down in tears at full time on an emotional night at Anfield. Liverpool boss Arne Slot dedicated the victory to Jota as he said: 'I think Mo felt how special that was. He probably felt the emotions. Diogo's wife is here, his family is here, his children are here. We also feel the emotions, the grief they still have. Those emotions probably led to Mo being emotional. I felt the same without being in tears.' 'After the fans sung so many times for him, it's nice he gave them something in return. That's what he did today. Unbelievable atmosphere in the last few minutes. Liverpool opened the scoring against Bournemouth through Hugo Ekitike. Cody Gakpo then added another goal for Liverpool just after half time but Bournemouth pulled level in the second half as Antoine Semenyo scored a brace. Liverpool still managed to prevail with Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah getting on the scoresheet.
