Mom and daughter brawl and spew racial slurs at motorist during fight over parking spot

A mother and daughter have been arrested following a brutal fight in the streets of New York City over a 'saved' parking spot. Andreea Dumitru, 45, and her daughter Sabrina Starman, 21, were arrested for assault following an aggressive brawl in Ridgewood, Queens on Monday. Starman was allegedly seen launching an attack onto 21-year-old Jada McPherson, a Pace University student who had parked in the spot, by gripping her by her hair and unloading punches onto her. 'They were trying to literally rip my hair out of my scalp,' McPherson told the New York Post. McPherson had attempted to park in a spot that the mother-daughter duo, as well as a third unidentified man, were guarding, police said. 'The guy, he ended up coming up behind me while I was trying to park and put a trash can to prevent me from parking,' McPherson said. She circled the block but, after she was unable to find another spot, McPherson came back to confront the trio for trying to reserve the parking spot. That's when the three allegedly began hurling racial slurs at the university student. 'I'm not going to lie. I called her an immigrant, but she called me a slave and she called me a monkey,' McPherson said. Video footage of the altercation caught the beatdown and vulgar slurs. Dumitru appeared to be heard shouting to McPherson, 'You're a monkey, b***.' While her daughter, Starman, was heard yelling, 'You're a f***ing slave b***. You're a slave for what i's worth.' The 21-year-old then allegedly launched her attack onto McPherson, pulling at her hair while the other two joined in on the beating. 'I couldn't tell that I was getting hit in the head and everything, I was just trying to defend myself at the time,' McPherson told ABC 7. Punches were thrown while McPherson was pulled around by her hair before Starman allegedly pulled a piece out of her head. The third man was held back at one point by an onlooker. Neighbors said the trio are a family who have caused issues trying to 'reserve' parking spots for years, the outlet reported. 'It's not worth fighting, but across the street with the garbage cans, they're trying to hold the spot, and he sits there monitoring it and that's what happened,' one local told ABC 7. 'I heard voices and looked out the window and saw arms flying,' another recalled. 'If you're coming home at rush hour, it can take up to an hour to find parking.' 'You know, I could move the garbage cans and park, but then they could slash my car or something,' said 33-year-old Yesenia Delgado who has lived in the area for 14 years, the NYP reported. 'Someone is always there, holding the spot,' George Carrasquillo, 53, told the outlet. Carrasquillo ends up parking two blocks from his home after often being unable to find a spot. 'I have to take my kick scooter with me to drop the car off, I find parking, then come home to my apartment, and have to see all this, their beautiful spot saved. Isn't this public parking?' he said. Starman and Dumitru were later arrested and charged with first-degree assault and second-degree harassment, police said. While McPherson was able to park in the spot she had fought for following their arrests, she said she had been anxious ever since the beatdown. She told the outlet she had only left her home with a friend or family member, and plans to move out of the neighborhood this weekend. 'Jumping one person for a parking space is really not right,' McPherson added.

Wild street brawl over saved parking spot in Queens

An unhinged mother and her foul-mouthed daughter savagely attacked a female driver for trying to park in a spot they were 'saving' in a caught-on-video brawl in Queens, New York. Andreea Dumitru, 45, and her daughter Sabrina Starman, 21, are seen in a viral video posted to Reddit unloading on victim Jada McPherson on Monday — pulling her hair, flinging racial slurs and unleashing a flurry of punches as she tries to fend them off. 'They were trying to literally rip my hair out of my scalp,' said Ms McPherson, 21, a Pace University student who was renting in the neighbourhood, where hoarding on-street spaces has locals fuming. The battle broke out after Ms McPherson tried to park in a spot Ms Dumitru and Ms Starman were guarding, cops said. An unidentified man also joined in on the gang-up on Ms McPherson, but apparently hightailed it out of the area before police arrived. 'The guy, he ended up coming up behind me while I was trying to park and put a trash can to prevent me from parking,' Ms McPherson said. When Ms McPherson couldn't find another spot on the block, she came back to tell the family they couldn't guard parking spots, she said. That's when the man went 'ballistic' and the mother-daughter pair flung racist language at Ms McPherson, who is black. 'You're a monkey, b***h,' Ms Dumitru is heard shouting in the video. Ms McPherson responds, 'You're an immigrant, b***h.' Ms Starman then yells 'You're a f*****g slave b***h. You're a slave for what it's worth,' before lunging at her, and the fight ensues. 'I definitely did fear for my life,' Ms McPherson said. Ms Starman and Ms Dumitru were later arrested and charged with first degree assault and second degree harassment, police said. After the arrests, Ms McPherson eventually did get to park in the spot she fought for. But she said she's been on edge ever since and has only left the house with a friend or family-member. She plans to move out of the neighbourhood this weekend. 'Jumping one person for a parking space is really not right,' Ms McPherson said. Parking space hoarding has sparked tensions in the area, with the family seen in the brawl notorious offenders who claim public spaces as their own with traffic cones and other items, locals told The Post. 'You know, I could move the garbage cans and park, but then they could slash my car or something,' said Yesenia Delgado, 33, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 14 years. 'Someone is always there, holding the spot,' George Carrasquillo, 53, who lives across the street from the spot. Mr Carrasquillo often drives to work in Manhattan, but has to park two blocks away from his home because he can't find a spot. 'I have to take my kick scooter with me to drop the car off, I find parking, then come home to my apartment, and have to see all this, their beautiful spot saved. Isn't this public parking?' Mr Carrasquillo said. Ms Starman and Ms Dumitru have hired a lawyer and plan to fight the charges in court in September. 'You can't claim to be a victim if you instigate an altercation with threatening behaviour and vile and hurtful language,' said Mahmoud Rabah, an lawyer for the pair. Mr Rabah says the mother and daughter duo have received death threats since the video was posted.

According to the NYPD, two women believed to be a mother and daughter were arrested and charged in connection with the fight. The video shows them attacking a 21-year-old woman during the confrontation. NEW YORK - An ongoing clash over a parking spot in New York City exploded into violence on Monday, and according to social media users, it was only a matter of time. Police say Andreea Dumitru, 45, and Sabrina Starman, 21, believed to be mother and daughter, attacked a 21-year-old woman over a parking spot outside their home on Putnam Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens. According to police, the two punched the woman multiple times in the face and body, causing substantial pain. Both Dumitru and Starman were arrested and charged in connection with the incident. What they're saying A Reddit post titled "the fight over the parking spot finally happened" sparked much of the online discussion. One user wrote, "The people who live on that block are a huge problem. This time, they snapped." What we know Video obtained by FOX 5 NY shows the moments before the brawl, where the 21-year-old victim is seen moving trash cans onto the sidewalk to park her car. A man is heard shouting, "Stop touching my stuff," as he puts the garbage cans back on the curb. The victim yells, "I just got home from work! I don't want to circle the block five times looking for a parking spot because this [expletives] was holding it with a garbage can." Both Andreea Dumitru, 45, and Sabrina Starman, 21, respond aggressively, joining the scuffle. Suddenly, punches are thrown and the younger attacker lunges forward at the unknown woman, landing multiple blows while Dumitru is seen kicking her as she falls to the ground, curling up defensively. Amid the chaos, a bystander with a cane can be heard shouting as the man originally involved in the confrontation is seen throwing punches. The backstory Residents in the area say the people involved have allegedly been guarding public parking spaces with cones, trash cans and garbage bins for years, despite having no permits or driveways for the spots they claim. A former resident on Reddit said the household shown in the video regularly placed trash cans in front of the building to hold a public parking spot while they were away, sometimes leaving them there for hours. They added, "Sometimes those trash cans would sit there for three hours," until someone finally moved them. A local community group on Instagram, @ridgewoodqueenz, shared the following statement with FOX 5 NY: "For over a decade, residents on Putnam Ave have expressed frustration over one household using multiple garbage bins to block off a public parking space — something many see as selfish and unneighborly. Tensions appear to have escalated recently, resulting in an unfortunate altercation... Our platform aims to spotlight these local concerns and give voice to the community." What's next Social media users reacted with calls for action, with one commenter urging, "Arrest these morons." Others were surprised by who was involved, posting "Omfg it would be these two."
