Swim advisory lifted for Southampton Beach

After Grey Bruce Public Health posted a swim advisory for Southampton Beach on Wednesday, the advisory was lifted on Friday. The beach was deemed as unsafe for swimming after water-sampling results showed unsafe levels of E. coli. 'We would like to thank the residents of the Saugeen Shores and visitors to Southampton Beach for respecting the advisory. Beaches are posted as unsafe when bacterial levels in the water could pose a risk to human health,' said GBPH Senior Public Health Manager Andrew Barton.

Swim advisory issued for Southampton Beach

Grey Bruce Public Health has posted Southampton Beach as unsafe for swimming after water-sampling results showed unsafe levels of E. coli. 'While we understand that this posting will be an inconvenience to some, we respectfully ask that residents and visitors respect this swim advisory as people are at an increased risk of getting sick or an infection when bacterial levels in beach water exceed Ontario guidelines,' said Senior Public Health Manager Andrew Barton. The advisory will remain in effect until further samples show levels have returned to within the acceptable range. Further sample results will be reported on as soon as they are received.

Kelso Beach deemed unsafe for swimming by Grey Bruce Public Health

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is seen in Owen Sound, Ont. in this file photo provided by the health unit. After testing the water on August 5, results showed bacterial levels at Kelso Beach exceeded Ontario Ministry of Health standards. Grey Bruce Public Health and the City of Owen Sound posted the beach as unsafe for swimming until further samples return within the acceptable range. The posting doesn't affect other beach locations. GBPH urges people to refrain from swimming or allowing pets to swim until the advisory is lifted. Bathing in water with high bacterial levels can increase the risk of skin, eye, ear, nose and threat infections, according to the GBPH.
