Spartans Wire crew predicts MSU-Auburn NCAA Tournament Elite 8 game
Spartans Wire crew predicts MSU-Auburn NCAA Tournament Elite 8 game Check out our predictions for this Elite 8 NCAA Tournament matchup between the Spartans and Tigers Michigan State basketball will look to cut down the nets on Sunday afternoon -- do we think they'll get it done? The Spartans and Tigers will battle it out for a spot in the Final Four on Sunday afternoon. Michigan State and Auburn both needed second half rallies in their Sweet 16 matchups, with the Spartans topping Ole Miss and the Tigers beating Michigan. Tip off between Michigan State and Auburn is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. ET on Sunday. The game will be televised on CBS. Michigan State comes into this Final Four matchup as an underdog for the first time in over a month. Will Michigan State be cutting down nets on Sunday or will their season be coming to a close? Check out our predictions below: Robert Bondy This is going to be a battle between a pair of National Championship contenders, and I really could see this game going either way. The one thing I worry about with the Spartans is their inability to get off to a fast start, and if that happens again, then Auburn will bury them. This is a coin flip for me and I'll go with the Tigers (hoping I'm wrong). Prediction: Auburn 74, Michigan State 71 Andrew Brewster Obviously, this will be the biggest test MSU has faced in the tournament. If we're being honest, it's the biggest test they've faced all year. Auburn is physical, they crash the boards, and they can really score it. That being said, this MSU team has handled everything that has been thrown at them this year and I think they can do it again here. Prediction: Michigan State 75, Auburn 72 Cory Linsner Michigan State is due for a good day offensively, and I think it can come against the style Auburn will play. This is going to be one of, if not the most talented team the Spartans will have played to date. Ultimately, I think the Spartans will be the more physical team, along with being the more mentally strong team, and that is going to prove to be the difference down the stretch. Prediction: Michigan State 84, Auburn 79 Contact/Follow us @The SpartansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan State news, notes and opinion. Spartans Wire crew predicts MSU-Ole Miss NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 game
Spartans Wire crew predicts MSU-Ole Miss NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 game Check out our predictions for this Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament matchup between the Spartans and Rebels Michigan State basketball returns to the floor on Friday night with an opportunity to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in six years. The Spartans will tangle with the Ole Miss Rebels in Atlanta on Friday night, with the winner moving on to the Elite Eight. The winner of this game will take on the winner of No. 1 seed Auburn and No. 5 seed Michigan, who's game will take place shortly after the Spartans and Rebels battle it out. Michigan State comes into this matchup with a pair of hard fought victories in the opening weekend against No. 15 seed Bryant and No. 10 seed New Mexico. Ole Miss looked rather impressive in the opening weekend with convincing victories over No. 11 seed North Carolina and No. 3 seed Iowa State. Tip off for this matchup between the Spartans and Rebels is scheduled for 7:09 p.m. ET and will be televised on CBS. Michigan State is a slight favorite in this tilt between two good squads from the Big Ten and SEC. Will Michigan State be able to contain extend its season for at least one more game reach the Elite Eight? Check out our predictions below: Robert Bondy It may be just me, but this matchup gives me the same vibes as the Michigan State-LSU Sweet 16 game in 2019. Not necessarily the same in teams but just the overall feeling and how the bracket has laid out in a way very comparable to that Final Four run for the Spartans. Maybe that's why I have a sneaky suspicion that Michigan State is going to relatively handle the Rebels en route to another NCAA Tournament victory. The key for this game will again be strong play from the Spartans' guards and wings. I anticipate Michigan State's stiff defense to again be in play and that helps lead the Spartans to a victory over Ole Miss in the Sweet 16. Prediction: Michigan State 77, Ole Miss 67 Andrew Brewster As we all know, any game against a Chris Beard team will be a rock fight and a battle, but this MSU team has overcome difficult defenses all year with their transition offense and relentless offensive rebounding and I expect them to keep moving through this tournament. Prediction: Michigan State 70, Ole Miss 62 Cory Linsner This is going to be another frustrating, defensive style game against a team that has battle tested. In the end, though, the rebounding struggles for the Rebels will bite them and the Spartans will be able to capitalize. Prediction: Michigan State 74, Ole Miss 67 Contact/Follow us @The SpartansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan State news, notes and opinion. Bryant social media account forced to eat their words about Coen Carr in hilarious fashion
Bryant social media account forced to eat their words about Coen Carr in hilarious fashion A few days ago, Barstool Bryant, the social media affiliate for Bryant athletics under the always controversial Barstool Sports umbrella, asked the question: 'We're supposed to be worried about a 6'5" forward that averages 8-3?'. The post was referring to Coen Carr, someone who many analysts felt would have a unique impact in this game because of Bryant's unique size profile. Bryant has a lot of taller, lengthier wings, which was going to make things a little annoying for some of MSU's smaller wings, but setup Coen Carr for a huge night, where he could play his most natural position at power forward and wreak havoc in the paint. And that's exactly what happened on Friday night. The post, which was posted to came back to haunt Barstool Bryant on Friday night, as Coen Carr erupted for an 18-point career-high performance in the Spartans' blowout win over Bryant in round one of the NCAA Tournament. The Barstool Bryant account owned up to their errant post in hilarious fashion on Friday night with a post that has now gone viral. Michigan State basketball falls one spot in final AP poll before NCAA Tournament
Michigan State basketball falls one spot in final AP poll before NCAA Tournament The final AP poll before the NCAA Tournament just dropped, and Michigan State basketball fell one spot down to No. 8 after their Big Ten Tournament loss to Wisconsin. Interestingly, the associated press had Michigan State one spot lower than the Spartans' position in the NCAA Tournament field, where the No. 2 seeded Spartans are the No. 7 overall team in the bracket. Michigan State was ranked at No. 7 in the AP poll last week, but fell one spot this week, partially because of their loss to the Badgers, but partially due to Tennessee winning the SEC Tournament and passing by the Spartans in the polls. Of course, the AP poll before March Madness is one of the least interesting polls of the year, as rankings don't mean much in the winner-take-all tournament.
