1 dead after crash in New Westminster

One person died after a two-vehicle crash in New Westminster on Sunday, July 13, 2025. A man died after a crash in New Westminster Sunday morning, according to authorities. The two-vehicle collision happened around 8 a.m. near 14th Street and Stewardson Way, the New Westminster Police Department said in a statement. 'The driver of one vehicle, an adult male, has died. All the contributing factors of this incident are still under investigation. The driver of the other vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police,' spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver said in an email to CTV News. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, where hours-long road closures are expected. Anyone with information or dash-cam video is urged to call 604-525-5411.

New Westminster police are investigating after a man was assaulted and robbed Monday during a Facebook Marketplace transaction gone wrong. The man told officers he met someone who was interested in buying an iPhone he had advertised on the social media site just before 5:20 p.m. Monday at Columbia Square. When he realized the buyer gave him counterfeit bills, the seller tried to chase him down. He was then pepper-sprayed by the man, who fled in a white Tesla with a getaway driver. Officers are working to identify the suspect, said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. 'We're encouraging anyone who has CCTV in the area to please review it and reach out to officers if they have footage of this incident.' The man is described as Caucasian, about 18 to 20 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches, 120 pounds and short brown hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black runners. Police said transactions on second-hand reseller platforms like Facebook Marketplace carry a degree of risk. It encourages buyers and sellers to use the lobby of the police department, which is monitored by CCTV, as a location for transactions.
