Look: Andrew Whitworth gave tips to Rams' linemen while visiting OTAs

Andrew Whitworth is loving retired life, spending his football seasons as an analyst for Amazon after 16 years in the NFL. His new job allows him to stay close to the game, as does his proximity to the Los Angeles Rams' facility in Woodland Hills. Not only does Whitworth work out with Sean McVay in the offseason, but he also visits Rams practice every now and then. He was at the team's facility on Tuesday for Week 2 of OTAs, stopping by Rams practice to see how the team looks. Advertisement While in attendance, Whitworth also helped some of Los Angeles' linemen on the field. The Rams shared a video of Whitworth coaching up rookie lineman Trey Wedig and second-year pro KT Leveston. He also chatted with Kevin Dotson for a little bit. Whitworth posted on X Wednesday following his visit to Rams OTAs, saying it "felt good" to be back on the field with the guys. "The standard is being built every rep," he wrote. Whitworth is a great person to have around the facility, being a four-time Pro Bowler and Walter Payton Man of the Year. His connection with the team and McVay remain strong, even three years after retiring from the NFL. Buccaneers Offensive Lineman Favored for NFL's New Protector of the Year Award

Buccaneers Offensive Lineman Favored for NFL's New Protector of the Year Award originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last month, the NFL announced a new postseason award geared toward giving the best offensive linemen in the league a little national media attention. Advertisement The Protector of the Year Award will be handed out each year at the NFL Honors presentation show and will recognize the best offensive lineman that season. Former Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth described the award best. 'This award means everything to the big guys up front,' said Whitworth. 'The Protector of the Year isn't just about stats – it's about the mindset, grit, and leadership it takes to be the foundation of a football team. It's time the men who lead, protect, and never ask for credit are recognized as the backbone of this game.' As we approach 2025, it seems that the oddsmakers favor Buccaneers standout protector Tristan Wirfs for the award, making him an 8-1 favorite with third-beat odds behind Detroit's Penei Sewell at 3-1 and San Francisco's Trent Williams at 7-1. Advertisement A press release by the NFL noted, "The award honors individual excellence and spotlights offensive linemen, whose contributions are often overlooked in the highlight-driven nature of football. It cements their role as the foundation of every great offense. Currently, offensive linemen are the only players who aren't eligible for most on-field awards." The winner will be selected by a panel of former offensive linemen based on skill metrics, impact, leadership, durability and strength of opponent. The initial panel includes former players, LeCharles Bentley, Jason Kelce, Shaun O'Hara, Orlando Pace, Will Shields and Whitworth. As the Bucs' current left tackle, Wirfs is the only player to make the Pro Bowl as a right tackle and a left tackle, and he's been voted to the Pro Bowl in four of his first five seasons in the NFL. The former Iowa Hawkeye has also received two First-Team All-Pro honors and one Second-Team All-Pro honor. Advertisement Related: Haason Reddick Absent from Buccaneers Voluntary OTAs ... So What? Which Steelers offensive lineman has best shot at new NFL award?

Which Steelers offensive lineman has best shot at new NFL award? The NFL just announced a brand-new award that will be given out annually to the league's best offensive lineman — the Protector of the Year award — but which Steeler has the best shot at winning? Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations, explained how the award will be given out — via a panel of OL voters. Nick Shook of captured his comments below: "[Dion Dawkins] was truly instrumental, him and Andrew Whitworth, of just making sure that we recognize the big fellas. LeCharles Bentley, Jason Kelce, Shaun O'Hara, Orlando Pace, Will Shields, and Andrew Whitworth will be the panel. … They've come up with a criteria on skills, metrics, impact, leadership, durability, and strength of the opponent. We'll be tracking that quarterly with this group." When deciding on which of the five projected Steelers' starting offensive linemen could match these criteria, one second-year player stands alone: C Zach Frazier. Frazier, in his rookie season, looked dominant — giving up just one sack, two QB hits, and 12 pressures on 548 pass block attempts. He also committed one fewer penalty than Eagles OL Lane Johnson — last season's probable winner if the award was available in 2024. In Year 2, Frazier will be charged with leading a younger, much healthier Steelers offensive line — and it shouldn't surprise anyone if he's in the conversation for the Protector of the Year award at the end of 2025.

Two Rams legends will be on the panel for the NFL's new Protector of the Year Award

Two Rams legends will be on the panel for the NFL's new Protector of the Year Award The NFL is introducing a new award this year called the Protector of the Year. It recognizes the best offensive lineman in the league each season, rewarding a position that rarely gets the credit it deserves from fans and analysts. Andrew Whitworth and Dion Dawkins spearheaded the movement, campaigning for the NFL to create an award that will be handed out annually at the NFL Honors alongside MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and others. Not only did Whitworth campaign for the award, but he'll also be one of the people voting on it each year, as will another Rams legend: Orlando Pace. The NFL announced the six-person panel that will decide the winner, picking the top five nominees before selecting one winner from the list. Here's the complete panel, according to the NFL's official site: LeCharles Bentley – center/guard (New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns, 2002-2007), two-time Pro Bowl Selection and first-team All-Pro Jason Kelce – center (Philadelphia Eagles 2011-2023), seven-time Pro Bowl Selection, six-time First Team All-Pro, named to NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team, and Super Bowl LII champion Shaun O'Hara – center (Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, 2000-2010), three-time All-Pro and Super Bowl XLII champion Orlando Pace – tackle (St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears 1997-2009), five-time All-Pro, named to NFL's 2000s All-Decade Team, and Super Bowl XXXIV champion Will Shields – guard (Kansas City Chiefs, 1993-2006), 12-time Pro Bowl selection, three-time First-Team All-Pro, 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee (2015) Andrew Whitworth – tackle (Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams, 2006-2021), two first-team All-Pro Selections, 2021 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, and Super Bowl LVI champion This is an award Whitworth probably would've won at least once in his career, given his sheer dominance as a pass-blocking left tackle. The Rams could have a couple of candidates up for the honor in 2025, including Alaric Jackson, Kevin Dotson and Rob Havenstein. Follow Rams Wire on X, Facebook and Threads for more coverage!
