This new setting in Android ensures core Google services are always up to date

Rita El Khoury / Android Authority TL;DR Google is adding a new dashboard to streamline updates of crucial background services on Android. It's called 'System services' and can be found on your Android device's Privacy & Security settings. The System services dashboard lets you manage existing services or install new ones. Alongside the core Android firmware on your phone, Google adds a layer of additional services responsible for enabling various features on your device, strengthening its security, and even enabling core features for other apps. Most of these services are updated monthly, distinct from routine Android firmware updates, and you download the latest updates for most of these apps or services through the Google Play Store. However, if you disable automatic app updates on the Play Store, some of these updates may get overlooked despite being crucial. That is why Google is now releasing a dedicated dashboard specifically for these services. It recently added a new 'System services' page in Android's settings to manage all of Google's background services that run on top of Android. It also addresses the fact that your Android device is never truly up to date, and 9to5Google hints it may enable auto-update of those background apps as well. This new dashboard displays a list of all the system services supported on your phone, and segments it as 'Available updates,' 'Not installed,' and 'Up to date.' While the interface also allows you to remove or disable these background services, doing so is not advised as it can impact your device's usability. This new dashboard is expected to accompany the Google System Services update for July 2025. On your Android device, head over to Settings > Privacy & Security > System services to view the list of internal services that keep all the features of your Android phone running smoothly. The System services dashboard is rolling out to devices running Android 6 Marshmallow or later. If you don't see it immediately, you can head to Settings > Privacy & Security > System and updates and install the latest Google Play system update. Once the update is downloaded, you will be prompted to restart your phone, so go ahead and do that. This should add System services as a new option. If you don't have it already, you should get it in a few days. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . This phone lasts forever, costs pennies... and is kind of awful

Battery life is still one of the most important aspects of any smartphone out there, regardless of its shape, form, or price tag. Chances are that no matter how many great features you have on board, if the battery life isn't good, you'd be less likely to like and recommend the phone. That's just the law, I'm not making things up. While many flagships excel in battery life, it's much more impressive when an affordable phone delivers great endurance, especially those that don't seemingly pack a lot of oomph. That's precisely the case with the Motorola Moto G (2025), a phone which was released earlier this year to little fanfare, which is usually the case with super-affordable phones that lack any special features. However, this Motorola phone has two great things going for it: its stupendous battery life and its extremely affordable price tag of just $200. $85 at eBay Okay, in all honesty, the Moto G (2025) is a fairly bad phone. You get lackluster performance, unimpressive camera and storage, a gaudy LCD screen, a run-of-the-mill design language, as well as Motorola's terrible software update policy which entitles you to two major Android updates––if the planets align the correct way. Yet, this otherwise unimpressive entry-level phone shines rather brightly when you take its battery life into consideration. Equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and the obviously efficient Dimensity 6300 chip, this one beats easily bests some current-gen flagship phones, like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which also packs a 5,000mAh battery. See, we have these three battery benchmark tests that we run on every phone that enters the premises for a review. We do these tests with the displays manually set at 200 nits of brightness to ensure an even playing field for all phones. In all three of our tests, the unassuming Moto G (2025) posted some pretty impressive results. ds Good battery life but not much else (Image by PhoneArena) In the tasking browsing test, which emulates an automated browsing workflow, the Moto G (2025) achieves an absolutely impressive result of 22 hours and three minutes. This makes it third in our 2025 rankings, only trailing behind more expensive phones like the Motorola Razr Ultra foldable with 23 hours and 51 minutes (almost a full day!) and the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, which achieves 23 hours and a half here. Then there's our video playback test, in which other devices perform better, and the Moto G achieves a fairly good but not necessarily range-topping result of 10 hours and three minutes. However, in the $200 price bracket, you would hardly find a phone with better endurance. Finally, in our custom 3D gaming battery test, the Motorola Moto G (2025) scores another win with a result of eleven hours and 42 minutes, which is another superb result only overshadowed by the more expensive CMF Phone 2 Pro and the Pixel 9a. Bottom of the line, the Moto G (2025) achieves a total battery estimate of eight hours and fifteen minutes, beating most other flagship phones released in 2025 so far. And the best thing about this is that the Moto G (2025) sells for just $199. Okay, so by now we've established that the Moto G (2025) has great battery life. That's great. However, just about anything else about the phone is mediocre at best and disappointing at worst, which was given away by the low price tag. To make up for the good battery life, the phone has had tons of corners cut. The screen isn't great, the performance isn't anything to write home about, and the camera isn't something that will inspire you to take up street photography. Those are the trade-offs that $200 get you. But if you aren't really concerned about performance, cool design, great camera and only want a phone that lasts and lasts, then this entry-level phone is the one you should short-list. Nothing Phone (1) may no longer qualify for Android 16, but the latest update is the next best thing

Nothing's first-ever smartphone, Phone (1), made its debut on the market three years ago. The device originally shipped with Android 12 right out of the box, but Nothing promised it will provide owners with three major OS upgrades. That means that Android 15 was the last major OS upgrade for Nothing Phone (1), something that hasn't changed even though most companies are now offering several years of OS updates for their phones. Although Nothing Phone (1) is no longer receiving OS upgrades, the UK brand offers customers who are still using the device the next best thing: a feature-packed update. Nothing OS v3.2 is now making its way to the original Phone, the company confirmed over the weekend. The update includes important new features and improvements that Nothing Phone (1) have been hopeful to get ever since they were debuted on Nothing's other phones. New Features : Introducing Privacy space: Swipe right in the app drawer for quick and easy access to your secure zone. You can now set a separate privacy password for both App Locker and Privacy space. Hotspot Manager: Easily manage devices connected to your hotspot. Other Improvements : Fixed issue with incorrect light strip display when playing music in Glyph Composer. Use the touch feedback toggle in Settings to disable the face unlock vibration for the lock screen. Updated to Android security patch for June. Fixed accessibility issues in Launcher, Gallery and other apps. General bug fixes and stability enhancements. Nothing Phone (1)'s industrial design makes it stand out | Image credit: PhoneArena As per Nothing's announcement, your Phone (1) may experience temporary overheating and increased consumption during the upgrade, but it should quickly return to normal after the update is complete. The update is rolling out in waves, so it might take some time to reach all Nothing Phone (1) users. It's unclear whether or not this phone will continue to receive feature-packed updates, so perhaps an upgrade to a newer device might be in order. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Exact date you need to upgrade your phone as major mobile brand SHUTS DOWN after 15 years

USERS of a huge mobile brand have until June 30 to upgrade their phones. After that date, customers will no longer be able to download or install Android updates, making their device more susceptible to cyber attacks. LG announced in 2021 that it was closing its smartphone division with the South Korean tech giant preparing to shut down for good at the end of this month. Its first Android phone was released more than 15 years ago - although LG's roots in mobile go back even further. LG once held the crown as the world's third-bestselling mobile brand. But rivals emerged including Oppo and Xiaomi, as well as long-established competitors such as Samsung. Despite the impending closure, the company continued to push out important Android updates to existing users. Bosses committed to do it for three years. But that time is now up with the last update due to come out on June 30, marking the very end for LG's mobile business. In a statement, LG said it would like to "extend our heartfelt gratitude towards our customers who have loved and supported LG Electronics mobile products". The company added: "After the termination date, you will no longer be able to use the software upgrade services. "If you wish to use the services, we strongly recommend upgrading your software before June 30, 2025. "Furthermore, as we will no longer provide application updates, you will not be able to download default applications deleted upon initialization." Time for an upgrade? Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun LG's mobiles have all long been discontinued so you can no longer buy them. And now you won't get software updates either. Security updates are the key part, as experts at LG will no longer plug any loopholes that are uncovered, meaning hackers will be on the look out to exploit them. So, the safest option is to upgrade to a newer handset. Users have been reacting to the final curtain call for LG's mobile devices. "The loss of HTC and LG phones really stagnated the market," one user wrote on Reddit. "I loved the different things they tried. A leather back to a phone!"
