A Bolton food manufacturer said it was a "privilege" to host Bolton's 2024-25 Mayor for his final official engagement Blazing Limited is a company that makes a range of sauces, rubs and breading – which were praised by Cllr Andy Morgan before he handed on the chains of office. He was joined by the then-mayoress Karen Holdsworth for an exclusive tour of the factory and tasting session. Cllr Morgan said: "If your taste buds are feeling brave, Blazing is the name to know, go look for them on social media and online." Founder and director of Blazing Limited, Mohammad Idrees, said: "We are proud to be Boltonians and even prouder to have built our manufacturing business here in Bolton. "It was a privilege to host the Mayor and Mayoress and share the story of our journey, growth and passion for delivering top-quality food products." They said that from there, the business expanded, now making products from wings sauce to coating to mixes. They said that they are unique "in a way that we manufacture great quality products for each foodservice sector" and that they build businesses "through innovation and creativity" in how they "develop, jobs" target="_blank">work and deliver".

Bolton Wanderers have unveiled two specially dedicated seats in honour of the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton. The seats are embroidered with the town's coat of arms and were revealed just ahead of the club's final home match of the season against Stevenage. Located inside the Directors' Box in the KIA West Stand, the seats will be reserved for the current and future Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton for all Wanderers' home games. The symbolic gesture highlights the football club's commitment to civic pride and its ongoing connection with local leadership. Have a story? Fire crews discover 'church roof in flames' was actually VE Day anniversary beacon

Fire crews who were called to a church expecting a fire arrived to find it was actually VE Day anniversary beacon. Three crews were called out to the Bolton Parish Church at around 10pm on Thursday 8 May after a passer-by reported a the church roof was "in flames." When they arrived, it soon became clear that the flames were actually coming from a beacon being lit to mark the conclusion of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Dan Martin, watch manager for Bolton Central fire station, said: 'A passer-by saw the flame up top and assumed it was a fire, it's as simple as that really. 'It turned out to be nothing more than part of the town's celebrations for VE Day. 'We were there for literally five minutes, had a quick chat with everyone there and shook hands with a few of the veterans.' Bolton's beacon lighting was one hundreds across the nation which took place at at 9.30pm yesterday in a symbol of unified remembrance. Earlier a service to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day was described by the Mayor of Bolton, Coun Andy Morgan as 'a truly moving and unforgettable occasion'. More than 600 people gathered in the heart of the town at the Parish Church to honour the sacrifice made by so many in the name of freedom and peace. Coun Morgan, said: 'It was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community and the deep respect we continue to show for those who came before us. 'The celebration was made even more special by the incredible performances from the Parish Church music team, the Hoover Band and the stirring presence of the lone piper. 'The service concluded with a spectacular moment as the beacon was lit. 'It made me incredibly proud as Mayor, but also as a resident of this remarkable town, to have played just a small part in such a significant event. 'Thank you to all our veterans and cadets that paraded and everyone else that paid their respects.'

The Peace Candle is placed at the War Memorial in Victoria Square and was lit as a symbol of remembrance and hope. It was today, 80 years ago, on May 8, 1945, the national celebrated the end of the Second World War in Europe. Beacon to be lit in Bolton to celebrate 80-year anniversary of VE Day

A special church service will be the highlight in a week of events to celebrate the 80-year anniversary of VE Day. A civic service and beacon lighting will take place at Bolton Parish Church at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 8. Military standards will be on parade, the Mayor of Bolton will lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Bolton, and Bolton Hoover Band will perform both wartime and military songs. At 9.30pm, Bolton will join communities across the UK and the Commonwealth in lighting a beacon from the top of the church tower. Read more: Read more: Read more: Attendance is free and free refreshments will be served in the church afterwards. VE Day is a day of remembrance that commemorates Germany's surrender to the Allies during World War II. While the official date falls on May 8, the government has also urged communities to use the Early May Bank Holiday Weekend to come together and celebrate the occasion. In Bolton, many of these celebrations are being backed by the council's Area Working funding. Local councillors have awarded more than £9,500 of grants from their Area Working budgets to groups to support 22 different community-led VE celebration events across the borough. A full list of events and activities taking place across the UK can be found online. The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Andy Morgan, said: 'From major civic events to local street parties, VE Day is a unique opportunity to bring everyone together to commemorate our shared history. 'The VE Day church service will be a memorable evening of live music, reflection, and celebration. 'I also look forward to the variety of community events as people across the borough mark this milestone 80th anniversary in their own way.'
