'He left us before we could take him to the hospital. He was behind the driver's seat without seatbelt on, and Shine chettan (elder brother) was sitting in the back. He wasn't responding when we were taking him to the hospital. But when he became silent on the way, we knew he had died. It crushed our hopes,' said the driver. Detailing what caused the accident, Aneesh says that they left from Ernakulam to Bengaluru around 10 PM and were at Salem by 6 AM when it happened. He stated that the lorry ahead of them suddenly switched lanes, and the car rammed into it. 'We were going at around 80 kmph because it was early,' said the driver. The report also revealed that Shine's right hand has been injured in the accident, which will need surgery. His mother, Maria Carmel and brother, Joe John Chacko, suffered minor injuries. An OnManorama report states that Chacko's body is being kept at Dharmapuri Government Medical College. A postmortem was conducted to determine the cause of death, and it is reported that he suffered from a fatal head injury in the impact of the collision. Shine and his family will return to Thrissur with the body for the funeral. Shine returned to work recently after his arrest in a drug-related case and being accused of inappropriate behaviour by his co-stars. He received treatment for de-addiction in Thodupuzha. The actor's friends reportedly said that he was travelling to Bengaluru for further treatment. He was most recently seen in Alappuzha Gymkhana and Good Bad Ugly.

While the lorry had been seen traveling at a distance in the right lane, it suddenly veered left just as they were about to cross. Two held for abducting, sexually assaulting minor girls
Thiruvananthapuram: Nemom police recorded the arrest of two men on Wednesday for abducting and sexually assaulting two minor girls aged 16 and 15. Police identified the arrested men as Aneesh, 21, and Deepu, 27, of Neyyattinkara. Police arrested them from near their houses on Tuesday night and the girls were rescued. The men were planning to take the girls to Tamil Nadu, police said. According to police, the girls got acquainted with the men through social media. As per their direction, the girls reached Neyyattinkara on Monday. In the meantime, the parents of the girls registered a missing case at Nemom police station. During the search conducted at their houses, the police found a mobile number written in the notebook of one of the girls. It was also found that one of the girls contacted the number several times. Soon, the accused's location was traced using the mobile number, and they were taken into custody from Neyyattinkara. Bribery case: Kerala HC seeks state govt's views on ED officer's pre-arrest bail plea
Kochi: HC has sought instructions from the state govt on the anticipatory bail plea filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED), Kochi assistant director Sekhar Kumar, in a vigilance case alleging that he demanded a bribe of Rs 2 crore from a Kollam-based cashew businessman to derail an ED investigation. The bench of Justice G Gireesh adjourned the matter to June 2 for further hearing. The case stems from a complaint filed by Aneesh Babu, a cashew trader, who alleged that ED officials demanded a bribe to halt an ongoing probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), initiated after a police-registered cheating case against him. The police case was based on allegations that Aneesh collected advance payments from local traders by promising to supply imported cashew nuts at rates below international prices but failed to deliver. Following the police FIR, the ED registered a case against Aneesh. He later alleged that two middlemen, Wilson Varghese and Mukesh Kumar, approached him on behalf of the ED officer and demanded Rs 2 crore to stop the investigation. The vigilance department arrested both middlemen, who, during interrogation, named Sekhar Kumar, leading to his arraignment as the first accused. Sekhar Kumar, however, maintained that there is no evidence connecting him to the arrested individuals and claimed that he has been falsely implicated with ulterior motives and vexatious intent.

Bribery accusations by Kerala businessman baseless, says ED
KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate has dismissed bribery allegations made by Kollam-based businessman Aneesh Babu against officers of the central agency, saying the complainant, who is under investigation for money laundering, is attempting to 'malign the image' of the ED through a 'media trial'. 'The allegations made by Aneesh are an attempt to trigger a media trial with the intent to malign the image of the Directorate of Enforcement. The allegations made are contradictory and propagated through media platforms to prejudice local public opinion,' the ED stated. Instead of complying with the summons, Aneesh approached the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) with certain allegations, and he changed the name of the ED officer over time, clearly revealing his intent to mislead and defame officers, the agency said. VACB had named an assistant director of ED's Kochi unit as the first accused in a bribery allegation involving the extortion of allegedly Rs 2 crore from a businessman in exchange for halting an ED investigation. On Saturday, the VACB's Kochi unit arrested Renjith Warrier, a Kochi-based chartered accountant, following the earlier arrest of two other accused. Commenting on VACB's investigation, ED officers said the central agency remains committed to upholding the rule of law.
