Anglesey coastal walk to celebrate life of North Wales nurse

Friends of Robyn Parry will walk the 130-mile Anglesey Coastal Path in his memory, raising funds for the Diamond Blackfan Anaemia Support Group UK. The walk will take place over nine days, from August 16 to 24, starting and finishing at the Anglesey Arms Hotel in Menai Bridge. Robyn from Anglesey, died on March 17, 2025, aged 36. Born with Diamond Blackfan Anaemia, a rare blood condition affecting just 350 people in the UK and 1,500 worldwide, Robyn spent much of his life receiving treatment at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. Despite his health challenges, he trained as a nurse in 2018 and worked at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd for more than seven years, finishing his career on the haematology and oncology ward. Glyn Owen, who is organising the walk alongside Ben Brame, said: "It was so sad when we received the news about Rob, as we had all just received the wedding invitation in the post the same day or a couple of days before. "When Ben called me, I thought it was to discuss the stag-do, and it was the same for all of his other friends. "To go from a moment of excitement like that to finding out the news was crushing." Robyn was due to marry his fiancée and fellow nurse Bryony on August 21. Mr Owen said: "We wanted to do something to honour and commemorate Rob, who was a really incredible person. "In terms of his health, he had quite a difficult life, but he never let it affect him; quite the opposite, he had such an appetite for life and really understood the importance of grabbing it with both hands. "We especially wanted to do the event when the wedding was supposed to take place, as it should have been a moment of celebration for him, his family and his friends." The walk will also mark 14 years since the death of Robyn's best friend, Lewis Darroch, who died on August 24, 2011, near Cable Bay while trying to rescue a drowning friend. Mr Owen said: "So it's fitting that 14 years nearly to the day, our route will bring us to the place where someone who Robyn loved so dearly died while performing a heroic act of friendship." Mr Brame said: "Look out for Spiderman and Thor rambling through the streets of Beaumaris or Amlwch in August, and please consider donating." Donations can be made at
