Lewis Ferguson to Napoli transfer hinges on one thing amid prospect of Scotland midfield takeover in Naples

The Serie A champions have been heavily linked with the Bologna skipper Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson is once again the subject of transfer interest after another fine season which ended in the club lifting silverware for the first time since 1974. But the Scotland ace's chances of landing a big money move to Serie A champions Napoli to link up with Dark Blues pals Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour will reportedly hinge on one key decision made by Antonio Conte's side. ‌ Former Aberdeen and Hamilton midfielder Ferguson has been heavily tipped with a switch to the south of Italy this summer, having also previously been linked with the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus. ‌ Ferguson's hopes of going to Euro 2024 12 months ago were ended with a serious knee injury picked up near the end of the 2023/24 season but the 25-year-old has since bounced back in impressive style under Vicenzo Italiano. The Tartan Army hero skippered Bologna to glory in the Coppa Italia with 1-0 win against AC Milan in Rome, securing a place in the revamped league stage of the Europa League next season. However, Napoli's interest in the ex-Rangers kid will only be stepped up in the event that they lose one of their current stars. That's according to Italian outlet Il Mattino (via calcionapoli1926) who claim that a bid for Ferguson is highly dependant on the future of midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Cameron international Anguissa has been a mainstay in Gli Azzuri's engine room in recent years and scored six league goals last season en route to the club's fourth Scudetto. But the former Fulham star is also a wanted man, amid reports that Besiktas in Turkey and Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League have both enquired about his services. ‌ Il Mattino goes on to say that Napoli value Anguissa at around €20million and that he would need to be sold for Napoli to make an approach for Ferguson, who is said to be valued by Bologna at £25million. Ferguson is under contract at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara until 2028, with his club side having the option of an additional year. ‌ Last month, the player's agent Bill McMurdo admitted that Ferguson's future is entirely in the Coppa Italia winners' court. He told TMW: "Lewis has a long-term contract and would be happy to stay until the end of it. "We believe Bologna would be happy for him to see out his contract. However, if the club were to receive an offer they consider satisfactory, Lewis would have to consider any potential interest, but only at that point.' Despite reports that Conte would walk out on the Naples club over a lack of transfer funds just weeks after steering the team to Serie A glory, the veteran coach has instead committed his services for another season. Napoli have also been liked with a move for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi.

From Turkey: Mourinho's Fenerbahce to rival Chelsea for Anguissa

Turkish media Fanatik reports that José Mourinho's Fenerbahce will rival Chelsea for Napoli's Frank Anguissa next summer. Napoli and Cameroon midfielder Anguissa has attracted interest from several clubs in Europe, and according to Fanatik, Mourinho's Fenerbahce are the latest club linked with a move for the 29-year-old. EPA-EFE/SERENA CAMPANINI Talks over a new deal have led nowhere so far, so the Partenopei may be listening to offers for the 29-year-old midfielder in the 2025 summer transfer window. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported earlier this week that Chelsea were closely monitoring Anguissa, but the Turkish website claims the Blues will have to beat competition from Mourinho, who is a long-time admirer of the former Fulham midfielder. Anguissa has had an extraordinary season at the Stadio Maradona, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

Napoli to target another Scotland international midfielder if Anguissa leaves

Napoli to target another Scotland international midfielder if Anguissa leaves – report Reports in Italy claim that Napoli will target the signing of another Scotland international midfielder in the form of Bologna's Lewis Ferguson in the event that Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa leaves the club at the end of the current season. Reports Napoli interested in Bologna's Scotland international Ferguson Antonio Conte already has two Scotland internationals in his midfield: Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, both of whom have enjoyed success in Serie A after leaving their respective Premier League clubs last summer. Advertisement Anguissa will be out of contract at the end of the 2024-25 season, but there is an option for both sides to extend until the summer of 2027. It remains to be seen whether either party will exercise that option. There is a possible option that Napoli extend his contract and then look to sell him in the summer transfer window to avoid losing him on a free. If Anguissa does leave, then Napoli will be down a starting central midfielder, which could turn them to Bologna to negotiate a deal for Lewis Ferguson, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport. Reports Anguissa wants to leave Napoli despite contract extension option

Reports on Thursday claim that Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is keen to leave Napoli for a new experience abroad at the end of the 2024-25 season, but the Partenopei still retain an option to extend his contract for another few seasons. The former Fulham midfielder is out of contract at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, but both he and the club have an option to extend their current agreement for another two seasons, until the summer of 2027. However, despite being a guaranteed starter when fit and available, and despite the fact that Napoli are only one point off the lead in a thrilling Serie A title race, Anguissa is reportedly keen to leave at the end of the current campaign. As per Fabrizio Romano, talks between Anguissa and Napoli over a new contract are currently on hold, which sets up an interesting situation ahead of the summer transfer window. According to reports from Radio Kiss Kiss and Anguissa's preference is to move outside Italy and move to a different club abroad for a fresh start. Naturally, Napoli do not want to lose a starting midfielder for free, so they could still theoretically exercise their option to extend the player's contract for another two years before looking to sell him on for a fee in the summer.

Napoli examine alternatives to replace hurt Anguissa against Inter

Antonio Conte is examining a few different options to replace injured Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa in the Scudetto showdown between Napoli and Inter. The top two go head-to-head at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday at 17.00 GMT. The Partenopei will be without two key players, as David Neres and Anguissa are both ruled out through injury. It had been assumed that January signing Philip Billing would step in to cover for Anguissa in the middle of the park. However, the former Bournemouth man has made only one appearance for Napoli, playing 62 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Como. note that another option is emerging in Napoli's training sessions, specifically the use of Billy Gilmour. Although the Scotland international has different characteristics to both Anguissa and Billing, the 23-year-old could still cover that role. Gilmour was signed over the summer as a back-up for Stanislav Lobotka and has made 14 Serie A appearances, plus two in the Coppa Italia, starting seven of those. Conte had already changed their tactics in the wake of the Neres injury, moving to a 3-5-2 formation from the 4-3-3.
