Citizens in limbo as lack of clarity clouds bus pick-up, drop-off points

Nagpur: Travellers in Nagpur are grappling with confusion over where they will board or alight from private buses after the traffic police issued a notification banning pick-up and drop-off services inside the Inner Ring Road.
The decision, they say, has come without clear communication, leaving both commuters and operators uncertain about designated points.
The notification is part of the police's effort to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in the city. However, passengers argue that the implementation was abrupt and poorly planned, without considering the practical needs of thousands who rely on these services daily.
Private bus operators say that around 350 to 400 buses run from Nagpur each day, carrying over 12,000 passengers.
The absence of clearly defined alternative locations, they claim, will disrupt services and inconvenience thousands, particularly daily commuters and long-distance travellers.
Many passengers told TOI that they were taken by surprise by the sudden order. Aniket Upadhyay, a Wardha native who works in Nagpur, is among them. He parks his bike at Chhatrapati Bus Stop before riding to his office near Ajni. "If suddenly bus operators start dropping me near the airport, Chinchbhuvan or outside the city, it will be very inconvenient.

There's no secure parking at those locations, and I'd have to travel further," he said.
Upadhyay is one of many who use Chhatrapati or Somalwada stops for regular trips to Wardha, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and other nearby cities.
Long-distance travellers are also uneasy. Shishir Zore, a resident of Indora who frequently travels to Pune, boards near Bole Petrol Pump because it is convenient for him. "There is no clarity among the public about where the new boarding points will be.
If they are outside the city, how will I reach them, or get home when I return?" he asked.
The commuters and operators have called for the traffic police to work with stakeholders to identify suitable locations for pick-up and drop-off, preferably at places with good connectivity and passenger safety measures. Until then, travellers say, the current situation remains a logistical headache — one that risks leaving thousands stranded or forcing them to spend more time and money on simply reaching their buses.
