Trader kills self, 3 booked for abetment
Ludhiana: A cloth merchant reportedly ended his life in
Jagraon
, prompting the police to book three accused for abetment to suicide. The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar Shanti, his brother Sanjiv Kumar, and Sahiba, all from Kartar Colony in Jagraon. Vikas Kumar, brother of deceased Sonu Sharma, said his brother had a garments shop and had borrowed Rs 3-4 lakh from Anil Kumar to buy more goods for the shop. He alleged that the accused had started to threaten his brother to return the money.
The complainant alleged that due to these threats, his brother became upset and swallowed Sulphas tablets. He added that his brother died during treatment. The complainant later lodged a complaint with the on the complaint, the police booked the accused for abetment to suicide. SHO Jagraon City police station Inspector Varinderpal Uppal said the accused were on the run and the police had launched a manhunt to arrest them. Sources said the deceased was survived by his wife and two children. They added that a number of financiers are allegedly working illegally in Jagraon area and those who get caught in the trap of such financiers fail to escape as they collect higher interest.
An official in the civil administration said that strict legal action would be taken against those running such illegal financial services without a proper licence in the area. tnn
